Our family of 5 (all adults) finished our 2 week Egyptian tour in Cairo. We were very pleased with the Osiris Hotel. It is centrally located, very welcoming, and exceptionally clean. If we ever return to Cairo, we would hope to stay with Nabil, Josiane, and Nadine again.

I stayed in a roomy double that was nicely decorated, although the lighting could have been better suited to reading. My room and the entire hotel is maintained very well, everything is very clean. I am not a smoker and did not appreciate that smoking is permitted in the common area. The rooftop terrace is a very nice place to sip a beer and watch the sundown. The staff and management were very helpful and knowledgeable. I would stay there again without hesitation

Stayed here for 2 nights...had room # 208, a clean double room with bathroom and balcony. Not the most comfortable mattress, plus with prayer calls at 5am and noises from the city and out in the hall, it was hard to get a good night of sleep. Location is good, within walking distance of the Egyptian Museum and downtown, not far from metro (subway) stations. Overall, a clean, decent place to crash for a few nights. Don't expect anything fancy; this is a budget hotel. Breakfast was OK, not the most filling but adequate. We were given hard-boiled eggs instead of fried eggs as other guests were given, guess you have to request it. Given all the glowing reviews, I was frankly a bit disappointed.

We liked the Osiris Hotel a lot. Nabil, Josiane, and Nadine looked after us and accommodated our requests. We decided to stay an extra day and they figured out how to do this even though they were full by creatively adjusting the price for another couple and leaving us where we were. It was great to get picked up at the airport at 11:30 at night. Cairo can be a little intimidating at first, but having the hotel help us eased the adjustment. We were not too happy having to come up with the cash for our entire stay at midnight, with a mix of Egyptian and US cash, and thought it could have waited until the morning, but it wasn't a big thing. The breakfasts were fine. We had an inside room with not much light. It did have strange noises from the elevator, but I used earplugs and it didn't bother my husband at all. The shower actually didn't flood the bathroom as much as expected, but a curtain might be a good addition. We had dinner one night at the hotel and it was very good. We also had Hamada as our guide to the pyramids, and he was great. All in all, a very good place.

We found Hotel Osiris, just like you now, by looking through the reviews of Tripadvisor. We were searching for a reasonable priced and well located hotel in Cairo. So we mailed to the hotel for availability and later for an additional stay at the end of our trip in Egypt and had very quick en friendly response. We booked for 4 nights in the beginning of our holidays and for one night at the end. We also booked a pickup from the airport, which was very convenient and well priced. Hotel Osiris is a hotel on the top floor of a 12 storey office building. From streetlevel there is no indication that this is a hotel, only a sign in the entrance hall. You go up with a small elevator and are standing right in the hall of the hotel. We were warmly welcomed by the owner Nabil (an Egyptian who lived in France) and we met Josiane (his French wife) and Nadine (her daughter). They speak French and also very good English and the husband of Nadine (which is Mexican) also speaks Spanish. Everything is very clean and well furnished with an oriental ambiente. There is a big rooftop terrace where you can overlook all Cairo. Breakfast is served in a glass roofed terrace near the main hall. The hotel is near to the Tahrir Sqare (about 10 min walk) and the Egyptian Museum (13 min walk). You can walk easily to the metro or grab a white taxi on Mohammed Mammoud Street. The area is very safe, even at night, and we found some good places to eat and to drink nearby. Everything was quite what we expected after looking at their website and the photos op tripadvisor. What we didn't expect was the warmth en helpfulness of the owner and his family. If you have any question (and if you are in Cairo for the first or second time you might) just sit down on the sofa or the armchairs in the lobby and start a conversation with Nabil or ask Josiane or Nadine. Sometimes we asked how to go there, where to buy this, sometimes we just sat and had a conversation about living in Cairo or dealing with the Egyptian mentality. We also booked a trip to the pyramids through Nabil and everything was well organized and good value. And at the time we had a problem with our ticket to Aswan Nabil and later Josiane and Nadine were very helpful by looking for an alternative. Nabil knows a lot of people and I am sure he can help with almost everything. And then I mean not the kind of help you can get everywhere in Egypt (the help that is always linked to some kind of profit), but just straightforward help. So we enjoyed our stay there very much and when we got back to the hotel at our last day it almost felt like coming home.
Please keep in mind that Hotel Osiris is a midrange hotel in Cairo, Egypt (where the standards might be different from those of your home country). According to that I can only highly recommend it.

hello everybody

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! wishing you loads of fantastic travels for 2011!!!

this post really made my day!! i have been so sad reading the previous one, i love my job and i think i do my best to have all our guests enjoy their stay here so when someone says otherwise i feel very sad, so i am very glad today to read this post!!!
working in a small family run hotel is a 24 hour job 7 days a week and our main goal is to make sure everybody who comes here have a great place to stay but also a great time in cairo which is why we do our best to provide infos about places to visit, a bit off the beaten track, good places to eat....(by the way taboula restaurant the lebanese place about 20 min walk from the hotel is great, if you come to cairo do have a meal there!!!)
so the reward for our work is to have the people enjoying themselves, having a great time in cairo and when they let other people know like on tripadvisor then it really makes us happy as it proves to us that what we do is not in vain!!! It is a great reward for us to see so many people taking the time to recommend us and we thank all our previous, current and future guests for trusting us

Thank you again

nadine

Stayed 3 nights at this place. The place itself is not bad. not much hospitality and a lot of rules-

1. 1st two nights ($68 per night for a double)- room ok, but bathroom was stinky (signs indicating not to flush toilet paper in the bowl). no shower curtain so the bathroom floods after every shower.

2. they want all of your money upfront and since we were spending 1 more night (about three weeks later, they wanted that money as well). CASH only.

3. strict rules- no chance of getting the cheap breakfast (nescafe, toast, etc.) before 6:30am since "we do not want to wake up guests"- apparently the noisy street and call to prayers do not distrub guests. No eating in the room since "we do not want ants", if caught in the act of eating, they will terminate your stay.

4. they have posted prices regarding tours, food, etc. Here is a real annoying thing. tea and coffee is listed as 5 egyptian pounds. my wife asked for milk with her tea and was told this is an extra 5 egyptian pounds.

we are glad that they had no availability for the other 3 nights we needed to stay in cairo. We would not recommed this place to friends

first of all hello everybody i hope you had a fantastic christmas and wishing you all a HAPPY new year, filled with many travels!!!

i am always very surprised by some posts, it definitely comforts me in the idea that whatever you do some guests will never be happy

-price of drinks: there is a price list in the room, there is no surprises, if someone doesnt wish to order then dont order but why write about it later on?
most drinks are 5 egp (1usd) which for a hotel is not overpriced, tea or coffee with milk is 10 egp(2 usd). we dont lie we dont cheat.... if people want a drink they know the price, so ordering or not is your decision...
-"cheap breakfast" funny how the person mention only the nescafe and toast and forget:
the pancake with banana or honey and almond or chocolate sauce (depending on the day) or the homebaked cake (made by me!!!) or the fruit salad, the yogurt, the egyptian cheese and bread....
-yes there are rules just like anywhere else, if people want a noisy dirty hotel they can go to one with no rules but if you want to keep a place quiet and clean you do need somes rules
in egypt sugar or crumbs will attract ants.... if you wish to eat pizza in your bed and attract insects go ahead.... but as an alternative we offer people to bring the food from the outside (forbidden by most other hotels) and eat on our balcony or rooftop terrace or living room... what more can we do? and for the record we never terminated anyones stay because they eat in the room, we do see all the wrappers in the garbage when cleaning so we know people eat in the rooms...
-yes breakfast starts at 6.30am.... even at the 4 season you will find there is a breakfast time.... and yes this is to ensure peace and quiet during the night, the hotel is only on 1 floor so the kitchen and the rooms are on the same floor.... as a guest would you like people to start cooking at all hours of the night?!!! come on, give us a break there!!!!
-yes payment is upfront.... surprise? not really when people book i mention that to everybody so once again, you dont agree with it, dont book with us. when you buy bread at the bakery do you go home first, eat your bread and then pay for it the next day? no? same thing here.
and the other reason is that we are a small family run hotel, we are here when you arrive and it is easy to settle everything, before we had that rule some people would wait until 5 am in the morning (when leaving at 5.15 am) to pay us... thus waking us up in themiddle of the night.... rooms have to be paid anyway do you want to chance losing the money during your stay.... i dont understand why it is a problem....
and yes when you return the return night is to be paid during the first stay, that is also said in the email when booking.... surprised? well i suppose no other hotels in the world take a deposit?....
i am very sad to read such comment, when everything is explained well before people arrive
we are very honest, upfront, we work non stop to ensure people have a great stay with us.. i think that shows in all the other posts by the way but i suppose you cant please everybody all the time
i hope that we will see some of you in the future, please read all comments carefully, if you think this is not the hotel for you then of course book a 5 star hotel chain but if you want a family run, clean, friendly place then we ll be happy to see you

We were beyond pleased and satisfied with our room. The room was a nice and cool
oasis from the oven hot smog- filled June days in Cairo. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean, tidy, and comfortable, and the air conditioning keeps the room at a nice cool temperature. I particularly loved the ability to watch the sunset from our terrace.

Breakfast was always delicious and is served on a large terrace every morning. The staff are incredibly helpful and kind and Nabil (the owner) is such a wonderful, humble, inviting host. After our second day in Cairo (and against my caution), my husband drank a pepsi with ice (local water) and got incredibly sick with debilitating stomach pains. I explained to Nabil what happened and he was so concerned that he made a special rice milk mixture for my husband (an egyptian remedy for stomach pains). The next day, my husband was feeling better!

Upon our second visit to Cairo, we will definitely be back! Thanks Nabil and Osiris!
