“Good food, Awkward service.”
Reviewed 17 May 2013

I visited the Moghul room in May of 2013. At the time, the tourism industry had not been doing well and many of the hotels were very under-booked. This restaurant is located within the Mena House hotel, where I was staying.

The food was very good. I got a lamb chop masala. The masala sauce wasn't the best I'd ever had but the locally-raised lamb chops were excellent and well cooked.

What made it awkward was that there were six staff member to serve five people. This wouldn't have been too bad if they spent most of their time in the kitchen but the six staff members stood around in the restaurant and watched the five people eat. Any time anyone got close to the end of a glass of water, someone would rush over and pour more. If you got close to finishing the food on your plate, one or more of them would rush over and over to serve more. This kind of overly-attentive service was common at the time due to the low tourism but this restaurant was a bit over-the-top.

Overall, great food but try to go with a large group or wait until tourism picks up.

“Apparently the best Indian Restaurant in Cairo”
Reviewed 29 April 2013

Our guide recommended this restaurant. Our taxi driver said it was way too expensive and offered to take us somewhere better - I'm glad we did not listen to him.
The food was very good. They gave us free samosas and poppadoms and chutneys to start. We had the mixed grill as a starter and then shared a Laal Maas for mains (superhot lamb curry).
The service was good - the waiter was very understanding when we complained about the chaas for being too salty for our taste, they brought us a ginger tea which was lovely.
Highly recommended.

“Dont do the same mistake”
Reviewed 29 March 2013

The Moghul Room used to be the BEST Indian Restaurant in Egypt by far, for decades. My wife and I wend last January with two other couples, on a Thursday night which usually is very crowded and there were only three tables. We found out that the famous Oberoi International Hotel Chain left the Management of the Hotel on December 31st to the Government Owned Company Egoth. The Chef left to a better Hotel in the Gulf region and the food was far from what it used to be. More importantly most of us ended up spending the week end in the toilet with diarrhea, unfortunately a sad end to a lovely outing. Not at all recommended until another International Management Company takes over the Hotel again restorig health standards, quality and consistency.

“The jewel in the Mena's crown!”
Reviewed 16 March 2013

Lovely little restaurant serving wonderful Indian food. It's small but beautifully decorated and the waiters are friendly and helpful. It could maybe do with more signs in the hotel to point the way to The Moghul Room as it's not particularly obvious, but we were really glad we found it.
