“Fantastic atmosphere”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

I had a great time at the Mesa house! The staff was extremely friendly and would bend over back words to help you. The view was spectacular at the Mesa house (and not just of the pyramids). It was equivalent to a hotel hiring models to work, the women there were absolutely stunning.

I would return there and forego the pyramids, just stay on the grounds would make me happy on my next visit.... And yes, there will be a next visit!

Room Tip: Choose the room with a view, I stayed in room 748 and loved it

This is an oasis amid the hurly burly of Cairo. The view of the great Pyramid from the balconies in the Garden Wing are worth the price of admission, which, in July anyway, ain't that high. We liked the pool, the outdoor bar, and the golf cart service from lobby to Garden Wing. The service was like out of the 19th century, very attentive, very polite. The Indian restaurant was great and no reservation was really needed.
The proximity to the Pyramids was great and after a hot morning (we took a horse & buggy instead of the camel ride) we were back at the pool by 1:00.

Room Tip: We thought the rooms in the old wing a trifle musty, and certainly far from the pool.

3 nights at the Montgomery Suite in the old palace section (one of 2 presidential suites). Authentic old world charm including antique furniture..etc. Massive master bedroom with a bed that is beyond the standard sizes (looks like 1.5 a king size), large living room (that actually accommodated 2 extra beds for kids with plenty of remaining sitting space (sofa and 2 chairs!) and even a small dining table, separate kitchen. ENORMOUS terrace with 3 french doors and seating (in excess of 120m2 easily) directly overlooking the pyramids. The building is out of some magical story with history showing round every corner: architecture and decor. That's about the specific accommodation. More generally: from the moment you step in you get smiling welcoming faces who seemingly are just there to answer to your every request. Very attentive very helpful and with great sense of humour. Before arrival: very efficient communication (booked directly with hotel; looked after by a Mr Ismail Shoukry and team: meet and greet service literally at the gate as you get off the plane). Great local restaurants in the hotel (try all 3 of them: check website for specifics. All family friendly and the kids truly felt special). in-house bank service. Not many negatives but if I had to be overly critical: the swimming pool is in the "modern/new" section so you walk around 3-5minutes from the palace section: for the character you get in the palace rooms this is nothing. the walk is through beautiful manicured grounds. The pool itself is amazing but closes at 8pm. Had to pay for wireless internet in the suite, but maybe that was a good deterrent from checking work e-mails! Some fixtures were old/dated (not the antique ones obviously)Minor inconveniences but a great stay. Definitely my first choice and recommendation in Cairo for a true experience of Egypt rather than a glitzy generic 5 star hotel that you could find in any big city.

Room Tip: palace section for character. New section for closeness to swimming pool.

considering how things have been changing in Cairo, the Mena House hotel is still there. just like the Sphinx, hanging in there and watching history and the world go by.
the service in general is very good and the rooms are up there as well.
the food is OK but the rest is very good.
would go back anytime I can, no doubt there.

Room Tip: always ask for a pyramid view room, worth it.

A ver elegant Hotel in the shadow of the Pyramids. I stayed in a suite decorated in ancient Egypt splendour. don't expect modern but very comfortable and feels like it is still the same as when Winston Churchill stayed there. Beautiful pool area for evening drinks and great service

Room Tip: The suites have a classic lounge area
