In Cairo everyone hassled us - even before we left the airport. The hotel was no different. The porter was not happy with our tip and insisted on finding us a taxi. When we asked the cost for a trip he said 25 Egyptian pounds. But just a few yards away we found a normal white and yellow taxi with a meter - and he charged us only 10 Egyptian pounds.

The hotel does not have a safe in each room. They only have a common safe in the lobby with the keys hanging on the wall!

Breakfast was good.

Location was OK - but we did get harassed by shopkeepers and legal taxi drivers as soon as we left the hotel. This was quite unpleasant.

The service, price and the hygiene of the hotel is excellent!
I really enjoyed my time at Pharaohs hotel.
The food was fresh and tasty. The chef is one of Egypt's most experienced chefs.
The reception were very helpful and knew how to make you feel welcome especially one of the workers called George "Joe",
I strongly advise you to come to Pharaohs hotel when you are in Cairo!

Room Tip: The suite rooms were the best!

I stayed two nights in this hotel. The restaurant and room were good and especially receptionists were very kind. In addition it was very comfortable that the hotel is not far from the metro station "el dokki".

just on the other side of the Nile, with a great view of the city center as my room was facing the Nile. The hotel is just behind a small house so you can have the view of downtown without the noise of the main traffic street. Staff pleasant and helpfull. Perfect landing point for excusrsion to pyramids. Very safe and quiet neighborhood.

Room Tip: view to the Nile is much better than to the courtyard room 507 has a nice balcony

Not sure about the name shown here in TA but we just knew it as Pharaohs Hotel, Cairo.

We stayed on two occasions during a tour of Egypt. The first time we were underwhelmed by our two rooms (for a family of four) on the 6th floor which were quite dark with no real view to speak of and the TV didn’t work very well. But we’d just arrived after about 26 hours of traveling so were grateful to lay our heads down. Room service was okay but culture shock had kicked in. The shower was good though after running the water for a bit.

Second stay was much better. The rooms (two again) were on the fifth floor and had views to the Nile and were larger with newer TVs (not that we judge by that).

The bar downstairs has Wifi as well as a couple of computers for free use by guests and was a great spot for relaxing and having a drink - alcohol is available. Breakfast was in the restaurant downstairs and was adequate with the option to have an omelette. There is also a restaurant on the top floor where we got room service from which was okay. Second breakfast was a takeaway breakfast box which consisted of bread rolls, pastries, an orange, juice box and butter and jams.

The staff were always very nice and helpful.

The hotel was part of our tour (so not our choice) but was comfortable enough with a supermarket within easy walking distance as well as a KFC, Domino’s and various eateries.

Just to provide some context from the start, Pharaoh’s hotel is a 3 Star hotel and it will be rated as to how well it fares as such. The hotel is located on a small side street opposite the Sheraton in the Dokki area (in case your taxi driver from the airport has never heard of it). It is generally well-maintained and a relatively inexpensive place to stay. We stayed there for 9 nights in January 2012.

The room was of basic design, but also included a small fridge, a ventilation (warm and cold) unit and a flat screen TV (with two stations showing English language films/series). The bed was quite firm, but the bedding was clean and changed daily (towels, too). The bathroom was generally clean, in spite of some minor imperfections, stemming from “time in use“. There were dirt patches in the some corners of the bathroom and the odd water stain, but no major faults. The main surfaces of tables/floor were wiped/mopped daily. There was no safe in the room, but valuables can be left at reception. Traffic noise was of course omnipresent, but bearable from inside the hotel. Breakfast was included with our booking, but we only went once to try it out...and thereafter only to get a cup of tea in the morning. The hotel also houses a restaurant, but it is quite expensive.

Internet is available for free in the lounge (you will need your own laptop), but the connection is not the best. One of the receptionists insisted that internet required a fee, but this was an attempt to make some extra money and our booking summary clearly stated that it is free of charge - his colleague provided us with the password later.

Near the hotel itself are several small corner shops (turning right from the hotel). In the vicinity (Al Sad Al Aali street) there is also a supermarket, an HSBC bank, Domino’s pizza and a pharmacy. For vegetarians, there are several kebab places (think falafel) on El Tahrir Street, and also an outlet of “El Tahrir” chain restaurant that serves koshari. Dokki Metro station is also relatively close-by (15 min walk from hotel).

Based on our stay, I’d give Pharaohs hotel between 3.5 and 4 stars on the three-star-hotel scale. It’s generally clean, relatively inexpensive and one has easy access to shops and public transport. On the downside, the breakfast needs some getting used to and some of the staff may be interested in making some extra money.
