I didn't stay at this hotel but when I was in Aswan in February I wanted to do something special for my birthday. I decided to have high tea on the terrace at the Old Cataract Hotel and watch the sunset. I ordered darjeeling tea which was very weak. The food was terrible. The bottom tier (and the largest plate) was sliced fruit. Never heard of fruit for a high tea! The middle tier had some small cakes/slices which was served with jam and cream but no scones in sight. The top tier was sandwiches and the bread was completely dried out and also some savoury puffs with different toppings. The bill came to 308 egp (approx. $44). My Egyptian guide was horrified at the price but went and complained that there were no scones. Other than the food the setting was wonderful especially watching the sunset. I also was taken into the restaurant and it was breathtaking with the huge coffee pots and aqua glass lamps.
