“Unique and very comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2014

This hotel was incredibly lovely and had such a friendly atmosphere. Amazing rooftop terrace with a view of Aswan. Delicious and reasonably-priced food prepared right in the kitchen on the terrace. Also wonderful staff. I would consider going to Aswan again JUST to stay at this hotel and relax! So unique and in a beautiful setting. We were initially worried about accessing it since it's located across the river from the main part of Aswan, but it was actually very easy--go to the Corniche and ask for the "maadiya" ("crossing") where you will find a public boat that costs something like 1 guinea for a ride.

As for excursions offered by the hotel, we took an evening boat ride on the Nile and would highly recommend this excursion to any other guests! So beautiful. Well worth the money.

Amazing place! Abdul is a supreme host and feels immediately like a friend! I would stay here again and again and again! The staff was absolutely amazing as well! Aswan is a very busy busy and HOT city. Bet el Kerem is on the quiet side of Aswan in the Nubian village side and we couldn't have asked for a more serene setting! Looks over the tomb of the nobles. When we come back to Aswan- Bet el Kerem is where we are staying. We stayed two and a half weeks in Egypt and this place had the best food I have ever tasted! What was really nice as well is Abdul will help you get set up with any sights/trips/adventures you want to see in Aswan during your stay and also helped us get to Luxor via taxi. The entire crew goes above and beyond to make your stay fun & relaxing! They make you feel like you are staying the night at a friends house (and they just happen to cook you breakfast & dinner!) btw you will love Abdul's garden!

Room Tip: we picked the en-suite shower in room (toilet was shared) looked out over the garden on the 2nd floo...

Our 3 days at Bel El Kerem were fantastic. Peaceful and relaxing: We drank a lot of delicous tea on the roof terrace, watching the children play and chase their camels, and having good conversations with the owner Abdel and his crew. We also enjoyed playing table tennis in the beautifully decorated recreation room.
The food is exceptional and delighted us - we did not want to eat anywhere else.
Abdel offers different activities which were big fun. We went on an amazing boat trip with a young guy named Ali, who organized a wonderful lunch for us, fresh fish from the nile, Egyptian bread, rice, tahina, cucumber and tomato. Mmmmhh..! We visited Kitchener Island and stopped on the banks of the Nile, where there was a sandy beach, perfect for bathing. Our children enjoyed themselves. The other activity we did was oil painting with a local artist, that took place in the garden of Bet El Kerem. I wished I would have more time for that!

We also enjoyed the walk in this beautiful Nubian village with its painted and decorated houses. We did not see any tourist there, which was nice.

Abdel, we promise you that we will come back one day! Your hospitality is exceptional!

What a lovely place to stay! Amazing view of Aswan, the Nile and the Tombs, basic but comfortable rooms, very welcoming staff and great food. Bet El Kerem felt like home. The staff were extremely helpful and Mohamed was a star. We stayed for 4 nights with a toddler and a baby and they had lots of attention from everyone.
The only less positive comment would be about the price of the visits and activities if organised by the guest house. They have prices per person instead of per group (for example 8 euros for 2 hours of felucca per person, when you're 6 is just outrageous).

Bet el Kerem is on the west bank of the Nile at Aswan, just a few moments on foot from the ferry jetty. It's a great location, quite literally on the edge of the desert, and extremely peaceful. The only problem with the location is the very aggressive nature of the ferrymen, who will try to rip you off every time you take the ferry and, on occasion, will even try to prevent you boarding the boat unless you pay a vastly-inflated price. It takes a great deal of nerve and confidence to stand your ground, and not everyone will like this aspect.

The owners and staff of the guest house are as helpful as it is possible to be, and we were made to feel extremely welcome from the moment we walked up the path. The roof terrace of the hotel is a great place to sit and relax. This is also where they serve breakfast and a buffet-style dinner. The food was simple but very tasty and plentiful. Bottled water was made freely available at all times, and a range of soft drinks was available at dinner.

We were a little disappointed in the rooms, which were very basic and quite noisy at night. The partitions between some of the rooms are quite thin and we were disturbed by other guests coming in late or talking in their rooms. The plumbing was a particular problem, with low-pressure hot water and leaking showers. Our "en suite" bathroom was, in fact, outside the room.

Nevertheless, we really enjoyed our brief stay at Bet el Kerem and would recommend it to anyone who wishes to stay in Aswan on a budget.

We visited the Bet el Kerem at the beginning of March. It was a very pleasant departure from your usual hotel. We wanted something quiet and peaceful, and it was perfect. The meals are a more communal affair, and the cook was very accommodating. We even had boxed lunches packed for our day trips for 5 euros each. They do not serve alcohol, but we brought our own. We had the most delightful ride down the First Cataract on the falouka from the ferryboat landing. My only complain is that the shower was so-so, but overall, it was a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Try and get a good shower with the shower head fixed so you don't have to hold it.

We stayed 4 nights in a family room with our two young sons and we all had a great time. There are so many positives about this place - it's quiet, it has an amazing view, the food is fantastic (especially the buffet supper!!) and the staff seem like they honestly want to hang out with you.

You do have to take the public ferry across though but its walking distance from the train so don't let the taxi drivers take you for a ride!
