“Beautiful views of the Nile!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2011

I stayed only one night at this hotel but I found the room very clean and very accomodating. I had a balcony with view of the Nile River which were spectacular. As for the noise, I never heard anything from my room and I faced out to the street. Yes there was noice but really nothing to the degree I've read on this site!...The service was excellent and the everyone was very friendly. The pool area where the villas where located is beautiful. I sat at one of the tables facing out to the Nile with a wonderful local fruit drink and felt like Queen Cleopatra herself!....I do recommend this hotel.... If you are interested in seeing pictures of the hotel and views I created a blog documenting my trip to Egypt that you are welcome to view.... http://julieredhead.blogspot.com

We stayed 2 nights at the Iberotel Aswan as part of a 9 day tour of Egypt. As others have mentioned, the hotel was all but empty, and the riverside villas appeared to have no guests at all.
We had no problems or issues with our room - it was a decent size and clean, the bathroom was in good order, the air-conditioning worked (thank goodness, as the hallways must have been 40+ degrees!), and we had a great view of the Nile. The pool area was excellent, and our favourite place to be when not sightseeing.
The buffet breakfast had a wide choice, including some local oddities and reasonable attempts at western fare.
The hotel was not very central, but this can be seen either as a negative and a positive.
As the cost of the hotel was included with the tour, we can’t comment on value for money of the rooms as others have - it is by no means 5 stars by normal standards, but after you have experienced a night cooped up in a dirty, smelly, leaky Egyptian train in what they call a first class carriage, it will feel like an oasis. It was definitely on par with our hotel in Luxor and way better than our Cairo/Giza hotel (see other reviews).

I reviewed this hotel the same time last year and my opinion hasn't changed.
First impressions from the outside are excellent and this remains once you enter the lobby and reception area. But it's very overpriced and the only good thing about it is the Nile view.
The bathrooms are in a poor state of repair and are distinctly grubby. I had a bent towel rail, another had one hanging off the wall! The silicone around the bath had to be seen to be believed. We were fortunately only there for two nights and only tolerated it for that reason.
Generally, the bedrooms are comfortable and had nice decor but the beds are very hard.

At least the most of the staff at breakfast this time could communicate and the drinks were hot. For some reason still the egg station is outside but the chef couldn't understand English.

It really is a shame that no notice has been taken of the poor reviews. It wouldn't take a great deal of effort to make this into an excellent hotel, but there appears to be a complete lack of interest.
By the way, I had to stay here again because I was with a group.

After reading some reviews on other web sites we wondered how good the hotel was. We can only conclude that some people would complain if they were accommodated at Buckingham Palace!
It is a very good hotel located on the banks of the Nile just 15 minutes walk from the centre.
We were twice upgraded to a luxurious poolside villa because we discovered a crack in the plate glass entrance. We spent a lot of leisure time just sitting outside looking over the gardens, pool and river. The sunsets are glorious. On the far bank the tombs of the nobles can clearly be seen, with the Agha Khan mausoleum and the islands all in view. The river is a scene of endless activity with a wealth of bird life. Many cruisers come past the hotel, , but it was interesting rather than intrusive. The pool was bit chilly as the nights in January can be cool but daytime saw temperatures between 25 and 30 C.
The Ramses restaurant offers buffet meals, with a wide variety of food and the tables gave an entrancing outlook over the Nile. There was always plenty of choice. The quality was good. Drinks can be ordered at the table, beer about £4, reasonable wine about £14 but with more expensive varieties also available. Service in and around the tables was always polite and efficient.
In fact everyone in the hotel was friendly, courteous and helpful. Any issue received full attention although the jammed safe in our second villa never did get put right!
On the top floor is the Ahmos restaurant looking out over the twinkling lights of Aswan. Half board customers can upgrade for 12 US$. We went there for our 45th wedding anniversary. Word had got through, probably from Alison our excellent Thomson rep, because we were really given the treatment, including a specially iced cake, and it truly was a wonderful experience. This really did speak volumes for the hotel and its staff.
Inside the main building is a small shopping mall in which a variety of gifts can be obtained from friendly shop keepers.
For fundamentals like water there are no shops immediately on hand. In the souk be prepared to bargain hard, and in the end walk away; they will usually drop the price dramatically as they chase after you.
Aswan itself reminded us of Old Delhi.
The botanic garden on Kitchener Island was delightful. The Nubian village has plenty of shops, but your guide is not taking you into them because they are the cheapest.
Abu Simbel is a 4am convoy across the desert, a 4 hour ride, more like a race!.
The Sound and Light at Philae Temple on an island was impressive.

We were booked for 6 nights at the Iberotel Aswan with Kuoni in the more expensive Nile chalet rooms. We arrived late and were led to a room at first floor level on the Nile side of the Corniche which was literally on the same level as the road which is less than 25 yards away. Visitors to Aswan will know that traffic roars and toots its horn all night along the road, it was like trying to sleep on the verge of the M25. After complaining the next morning we were moved to a chalet closer to the Nile . The problem here however was although the traffic noise was less, just behind the wall and over the river bank were the generators of the many nile cruisers tied up alongside. Not only were the boats constantly moving and making a noise including in the middle of the night, the noise of the generators was deafening! We complained again and were shown rooms in the upper part of the hotel but again there was a complete lack of soundproofing and the traffic noise could be clearly heard. After 3 nights Kuoni very reluctantly agreed to move us to the Movenpick which was paradise by comparison but we had by this time had half of our holiday ruined. In addition the pool area is freely on view from the main road/corniche and gaggles of men stand and ogle the western tourists as you lie on the sun beds, making you feel very uncomfortable. You expect a pool area in a 5 star hotel to be private and not on public view. Having said that the rooms themselves were spacious and comfortable and the staff lovely, but they simply could not solve the noise problem which pervades the hotel. The food was also only mediocre, should be much better in a hotel of this quality. It was clear from talking to other tourists we met that the problems at the Iberotel were well known and Kuoni should never have sold a holiday in a hotel such as this apart from say on an emergency or one night only basis.

As we had booked with Thomsons we were allocated a room overlooking the pool and Nile. Stayed for 3 nights half board and found no fault with the food provided. Staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Only £1 to get a taxi into town.
