“A very good low budget hotel -we will recommend Keylany to our friends.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2009

A very good low budget hotel - we will recommend Keylany to our friends.
The hotel is situated at the southern end of the souk area, with 2 mosques nearby, so some street noise was experienced.
Our ensuite room was clean, with comfortable beds, fridge, safety deposit box, air conditioning, and small balcony.
Breakfast was served on the roof terrace garden where we enjoyed pancakes, bread, cheese, preserves and fresh fruit.
The staff were efficient, friendly and helpful, without being pushy.
We would certainly go back to Keylany.
Sue and Jules. January 2009.

Me & my husband stayed at Keylany for 4 nights, a couple of months ago. We chose it on the basis of its high recommendations, despite being a budget accomodation.

The location of the hotel is super convenient.......it's a really short walk to the corniche, which is great. There are a lot of feluccas docked near the hotel. You also have a lot of restaurant options around. The souk is right next to the hotel. The Nubian Museum too is walkable, albeit a slightly long walk.

Some of the rooms may be noisy.....but, ours was tucked away, so we had no problems with the road noise. The room did not have a functional window....but, with the aircon on, we were fine. The room was very basic, but clean & functional. They have a lockable safe in the room, which is extremely handy. We had asked for a double bed, but got 2 single beds put together. The mattress is comfortable. The bathroom was clean. One time, we had trouble with not getting hot water, but it was fixed immediately, within minutes.

Breakfast is served on the terrace upstairs.......juice, tea/coffee, toast, butter & preserves, eggs & fresh fruit. Very filling before a day out. It's quite a nice terrace too. When we took the 4 am convoy to Abu Simbel one morning, we had asked for breakfast boxes, which were promptly ready in the morning, with a plastic butter knife, fork & bottled juice too.

The hotel stocks bottled water, which you can pick up in the lobby. They have internet facility & International calling facility at extremely reasonable rates. The staff is very friendly & helpful. We would ask the manager for a lot of inputs.......from restaurant recommendations, to directions, to prices for purchases in the souk......he's always helpful & smiling.

Just 1 negative point though......there is no elevator & some of the rooms are 3 storeys up.....very difficult for the elderly. Also, some of the ground floor rooms are a bit dingy.

We would highly recommend Keylany hotel to everybody.

The cleaningladies left our towels on our beds folded birdshaped every day. Very sweet.
Considering this hotel to be in Egypt, and not in some wealthy Western country, this hotel was really great: clean, friendly staff, good breakfast.

We stayed at Keylany hotel for two nights in December 2008.
Pros:
Internet in basement, cheap rates.
Good location for markets.
Clean rooms.
Nice roof top terrace.
Very friendly reception staff.

Cons:
Noisy rooster which sounded like it was right outside our window.
Tiny bathroom with shower curtains, no shower screen.

Summary:
An adequate hotel for the price. We had originally booked three nights but decided there wasn't enough in Aswan to keep us hanging around that long.

Stayed for three nights. Room was fairly small - we had booked a double but we got two single beds which we pushed together. The room was fairly clean although the bedsheets weren't changed daily.

Good location for walking to restaurants or the souq.

Biggest problem was the noise from outside. One morning, around 3am, there was a guy playing with a cat on the street going "miaow miaow". This stopped being funny after five minutes and went on for about an hour. At sunrise, the call to prayer will wake you up unless you're a really deep sleeper.

Not a bad place for the price. Staff were fairly helpful too.

A nice, clean, quiet hide away in Aswan, near the Corniche. Rooms were cleaned and towels replaced daily. No problems encountered at all. Lovely terrace for the continental breakfast of Egyptian pancakes, egg, cheese, coffee/tea, jam, juice. Perfect budget accommodations for the discerning traveler.

You cannot beat this place for value. We booked it because Aswan is short on hotels and the Keylany got consistently good reviews. At £10 per double ensuite per night it is hard to beat on price.

The rooms are comfy, the breakfast is great (pancakes, toast, fruit, juice and coffee), the roof garden is lovely at night and the staff are so friendly - such a change from Cairo!

It has to be said though that this is basic, basic stuff - the room we stayed in had no window to speak of, just a tiny shutter, and the room reminded me of my old school sick bay. It was, unfortunately, just too backpacky for the two of us and while it served the purpose, we were both relieved to check in to the Marhaba when we returned to Aswan.

However, if you are on a tight budget and want to be well looked after for your pennies, I'd recommend this to anyone under 30.

  • Liked — The lovely staff and the roof garden
  • Disliked — I'm just too old for this kind of place! Would have loved it twenty years ago.
