Last month we were in Egypt and stayed at the Nubian Holiday House. In the past we have always stayed in a hotel on the East Bank (in the city) this year we wanted to try something different. The Nubian Holiday House is situated just across the river from the main accommodations in Aswan, but it is situated in a lovely Nubian village among the vegetable fields, on the bank of the Nile. It is idyllic. The house is like staying in a private home with a very sensitive and welcoming family. The house is relatively new, we have watched it being built and waited eagerly for a chance to stay there. They provide WiFi in the common areas, transportation from the train depot or airport, breakfast included, but any meals needed can be provided at a very reasonable price. Habibi and Gigi are brother and sister duo that do most of the work, and Habibi can help you arrange any tours you might like, or give you directions to go off on your own. Boat rides and felluca trips are also available.

The rooms are very clean, eurostyle beds (meaning softer and more comfortable than many Egyptian beds), beautiful bathroom, (ours had a jacuzzi tub) with european fixtures. The house is a beautiful Nubian style villa, with high ceilings, roof deck, porches around the property overlooking fields of alfafa, onions and grazing cattle.

We finished our visit with a three day felluca trip to Kom Ombo - this is a little like camping, with staff. Three boatmen, take you upriver, sailing gently upriver with meals catered, just lay back and relax. We love this and Habibi has a beautiful boat.

We recommend traveling to Egypt at this time. We saw no trouble anywhere in Egypt and we visited Aswan, Luxor and Giza(staying near the Pyramids). There are direct flights into Luxor now from Europe and it is amazing to see the sites with fewer tourists.

Room Tip: Ask for what you want, there are four rooms - three with Nile views. Each is different, and two use...
