My wife and I stayed at one of Jane's flats on the west bank called Al Gezera / Horus for the second time ... this time for fourteen nights. Its location is extremely ideal and the flat is very spacious with wonderful views of the west bank from both the living room and its many balconies. What is best about it, however, is the assistance provided by Jane and those who work for her. And how warm and friendly they all are. Almost anything we needed could be provided quickly and inexpensively. Pickup from Aswan? Doable! Day trips to sites near Luxor? Prompt pickups and friendly, safe drivers. Breakfast or dinner every day? Done. A large load of laundry? Done. All of which gave us the maximum amount of time to enjoy the sites of Luxor. And to relax.

This was our third three-month winter stay in one of the extraordinarily spacious apartments at Flats in Luxor. Once again, Jane Akshar and Mahmoud Jahlan proved themselves to be outstanding hosts. This year, we had visitors arrive for a three-week stay in Egypt, most of it spent with us. Jane, after interviewing them to determine the depth and breadth of their interests in Ancient and Modern Egypt, designed a special programme for them that covered various appropriate attractions from Cairo to Abu Simbel. Whether alone or with our guests, we thoroughly enjoyed our apartment and village life on the West Bank. Mahmoud’s personal relationships in the area demonstrated to us that any reasonable request, ranging from a simple maintenance issue up to arranging for medical assistance, was met and diligently followed up. We have long ago stopped referring to Al Gezera as the ‘apartment’, rather we consider it ‘home’. Inshall’Allah we will be back for the winter of 2019!

Room tip: There is not elevator so govern yourself accordingly. However, the grown floor apartment is now wheelchair accessible.

After living in Luxor at one of Jane and Mahmoud's apartments for six months almost ten years ago, I was able to go back with my new husband. I wanted to show him my life as an Egyptologist so there was no doubt we would go back and stay with Jane and Mahmoud! We stayed on the fourth floor of her Gezera building where we had the most spectacular view of the Theban hills for Christmas and New Years. I had been dreaming about going back for years--it was like coming home.
We were able to order dinner as needed which we did on about three nights of our eleven-night stay. The food was very reasonably priced and there were copious amounts of everything (chicken, baba ganoush, stewed vegetables, bread, potatoes, etc). We used her driver to get around to the sites of both east and west banks. Jane has become extended family and part of the fabric of Luxor for me and many.

We had such an amazing time! We had an early flight in from Cairo, my hangover was terrible! haha. A ride was arranged and waiting, took us to the amazing 3 bedroom flat with incredible views of the west bank and valley of the kings. The next few days were a blur of magic and fun. amazing locations, people and food. A trip of a lifetime. it wouldnt have been the same without the help of Jane being able to easily help use line up any and all activities and day trips we could imagine, and some we couldnt. I will be back 100%

I am still recovering from your visit lol. A sudden Facebook message late at night before your arrival the next morning and we pulled it all together somehow. It was fun and we both enjoyed your company. Hope to see you back really soon with the family. Next time give us a bit more warning :) thanks so much for the review

Flats at Luxor, a spacious apartment type accommodation complete with multiple baths, full kitchen, dining and ample living spaces. Located on the West Bank of Luxor (the side with all the tombs and many temples) it is situated with prime access to nearly all one would want to see in Luxor, save Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple which are a day tour to the east bank.

Our hostess, Jane Akshar, an Egyptologist, in her own right, was most gracious with her time and guidance in arranging tours which were informative, insightful and economical of our time for viewing as much as possible in the time spent in Luxor. Her arranged guides and drivers were courteous, professional and all around super.
Jane also arranged a three-day/night boat trip, sailing on the Nile from Aswan to Luxor. What a spectacular way to view the island tombs and temples. A large crew, replete with Egyptian Chef, all who curried our every wish and need, while onboard. The craft was spacious and housed three ensuite cabins. The unhurried sail was an exceptional way to view a long past civilization, with all the amenities of a current one.

You will find a safe and stable society, whose children excitedly greet you in English, always asking your name and shouting “Hello’s” and “HI’s” and an adult population which appreciates the contribution you are making to their economy. We felt perfectly secure in all our travels and tours, with tourist police and normal cops to watch over our enjoyment of their precious antiquities.

We highly recommend “Flats at Luxor” and all their services for any person who wants a ‘personalized’ visit to Luxor or sail down the Nile.

Kudos, Jane and co-host Mahmoud.

Thank you so much for your detailed review. It was such a privilege to organise your Egyptian holiday from Cairo to Abu Simbel., including the sailing cruise on the Nile and to meet you when you stayed in the apartments. I hope you come again and visit more of Egypt.
