Dropped in for evening meal at the Boomerang Hotel in Lavington, near Albury. Special was Chicken Parma including a free beer. Meal was very good and very good value at $15. Certainly worth a visit especially if staying at one of the local motels.

Since the booking, super easy and super friendly.
They arrange our airport pick up for a reasonable price.
Rooms have good mattresses and pillows, they have a fan an a air con, balcony, night table and closet. Bathrooms are spotless clean always, always always. So if you have a share bathroom you don't have to worry about it. They even give you hand towels, HAND towels! yes in a hostel! hand soap, shower towels of course... we were happy happy, comfy, comfy.
Staff is helpful, happy and available. The breakfast is so, so good, for the price is super complete.
We booked with them a private car and even a sailing the nile thing-i. They where there to advise, help and book.
It's walking distance to Luxor temple and the museum. Right next to the best restaurant we tried in Luxor.
We had to climb plenty of stairs to get to our room, which of course if you're fit and keen no problem, but if you're broken somehow... make sure you let them know.
and blah! I recommend, I would go back.

We stayed for 4 nights at this hostel, and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are nice and clean, with air-con, fan, mosquito nets and good beds. Our bath room was outside our room, but private, so not a problem at all. There is a nice roof top, and they serve you a great breakfast for 15 LE with eggs and ham. But the best thing is the service. The staff was always very friendly, spoke good english, and always went the extra mile to help us planning our visits and tours, without pushing their own tours. They even helped us make a teacher card that got us a 50% discount on every temple and museum in the country (and that turned out to be a huge amount of money saved!) They can also arrange airport pick up for a very reasonable price (65 LE or 75 LE at night), which was great for us arriving at 1am at the airport. Overall, a really good value for the price, and a great service. I would absolutely go back!

a bumpy beginning..from the start i kept in contact w the owner(mia) via email and viber a month prior to my arrival. my flight time and flight # didn't change in the 4 weeks prior, i mention this bc of the snafu i experienced upon arrival to luxor airport. i was promised an airport pickup w a driver holding a sign w my name and all i received was a sketchy walk out onto the cab circle to explain to a non English driver on how to get to a hotel he doesn't even know exist. so, as you could imagine, no driver...anyhow i arrived to the hotel/dorm/hostel a bit upset bc of the empty promise and shocked by the overall appearance and outside ambiance of this establishment.

now for the Boomerang hotel, im being honest by saying this and at the same token understanding the cost effectiveness of this hotel, so ill be fair.. some Trip Advisor reviewers were incredibly generous towards their ratings and led me to believe that this hotel was much more than what it was, cheap..agreed, i didn't have the mindset i was staying in the sofitel(luxury)prior but i also didn't think i was staying in a bunker or a hideout as i was in an episode of Homeland looking for Brody. this place is a culture shock to say the least, yes, some people have expressed the enjoyment of walking among the locals and playing Frisbee w the neighborhood kids, im the opposite, i want to feel safe and not hear every possible noise from the outside streets and enjoy a tv that actually works.however, to be objective, the shower flow and water temperature worked great and they had working fan bc there is no a/c.

back to the owner, i spoke w Mia prior on arranging a private tour and a private driver, do you think it was readily available and secured for my once in a lifetime trip? nope, instead they sent the neighborhood hustler to finagle a price for services while at every moment he wanted to charge double and get paid before service was even rendered. Mohammad the manager had to step in bc it became quite apparent i was annoyed by this character, to be fair he collected 25% upfront and assured i would only owe the balance upon completion. this experience wasn't a total mess, but it wasn't handled correctly, Luxor is a dream and even the ratty hostel didn't change that. the staff started w Mohammad who was indifferent but his night time employee(forgot his name) was much better and mia was surprisingly MIA. the hotel has its plus for a bargain shopper and also for individuals who love being submerged in the culture of poverty and constant haggling, on the fair side, it has a nice rooftop and decent common area downstairs where you can enjoy some tea offered by some of the friendly staff. ohhh, one other highlight was our driver, he never left my side and handled the translations and helped take some great pictures.

as for the hotel overall, communication and care is needed, yes its dirt cheap and yes i was on my way to leave the room after 2 minutes but something happened, my wife and i made a pack that "we can do this" and lets just gut it out as an experience as none other plus its one hell of a story over drinks. but i must say, TA let me down, well, some reviewers let me down, oh well, live and learn..

Hi, i appreciate constructive criticism as this is the best way for a business to improve. However, false accusations about lack of facilities and false reviews are nothing less than slander.
It is true that we had kept in contact for months prior to your arrival, as I try to do this with all my guests. The flight details are most important as they do constantly change. Living here and dealing with the airline everyday the hotel gives me a tad more experience on this issue of flight arrivals. It was agreed that we would send you our driver to collect you and he was sent. ( remember you saw the sign) how you were missed was unfortunate and is rare thus the reason MOHAMED paid for your taxi upon your arrival.
You state that you were shocked at the overall appearance of the hotel?? You yourself admitted that we had been in contact for approximately 4 months, allowing you ample time to research the HOTEL. All photos on the internet are true and mainly taken by guests. We hold ourselves to a high standard of cleanliness and have won several awards yearly for this. You wrote that you didnt want to be with the locals and play frissbee with children. SO DONT. First we have security doors that are locked 24/7 with cameras and 24 hour staff. Secondly you had months and knew our location is by Luxor temple and trainstation, no person would expect this to be a silent area. Perhaps next time we shall find you a place out in the desert away from all locals thus giving you the safety and silence you sought. There are some very nice bungalows.

Staying in a bunker? The room you so eloquently called a bunker measures 15m squared not including the 8x10m bathroom.... if this is a bunker to you then perhaps i shall move to where you live.
Our prices are very very fair. However, I believe you and your wife did have the mindset of "Egypt is cheap and we will get a castle for $1"
The AC and TV work in ALL the rooms. They are activated by pressing the POWER buttons. IF you had issues with working the facilities, like I stated there are staff available 24/7 who would assist you.
We did speak regarding a driver and guide, however, please re-read your emails YOU decided to wait until you arrive to arrange this and it was suggestions that you wanted and were provided with.
The so called HUSTLER that you spoke with is my staff member, who pointed in the direction of our TOUR BOARD where all PRICES are written CLEAR AND FIXED!
You state that I was missing. First I am not going to be at the hotel 24 hours a day to greet all guests. This is impossible. I have a life outside of my business and 2 children. Your arrival was quite late at night, please have some respect for others. I personally called you on the telephone and advised why i would not be able to meet you the next day. To all reading this I was hospitalized. I did not have to inform a guest of my PERSONAL situation, however, our reputation is of exceptional service and thus important to me that no guest thinks i left them to fend for themselves, therefore the guest was advised of my personal situation. Mohamed wanted to be with his family but instead stayed late to meet you, so that you were greeted not only by staff.
All of this can be proven is emails and text messages. I have one from the guest hoping that I was feeling better. Which was quite lovely at the time. I do apologise that me not being there to greet you and your wife had such a huge impact on your holiday. And if fact I am quite honored.
You state that your wife and you made a pack "we can do this".. please next time don't bother. Check yourselves into the sofitel etc where you can get the 5* treatment that you and your wife expect.
Us the owners (Mohamed and Mia) and our staff go above and beyond for each and every guest. It is very upsetting when it is not appreciated and people are ungrateful.
You think that our reviews are fake. I challenge you to email EVERY single guest who left a review and see what they say. You have my email and my personal mobile number
( not just the hotels) so feel free to send me their responses.

Great hotel in excellent location, just two blocks away from the train station, via a shortcut, and a block away from shops. About six blocks, or 500 meters from the Luxor Temple, and the microbus to Karnak stops in front of the train station. Good and cheap breakfast on rooftop terrace, and sweet prices and advice on local tours. The owner couple's kids are as fantastic as they are, and the hangout room downstairs has conversation and a TV while lounging. Check out their taxi driver's furry brown cab, must be seen to believed!
