Being Lonely Planet fans, we usually find their picks and advice pretty spot on. However, Abu Ashraf in Luxor is the exception as we would recommend that you look elsewhere for “quick eats”. We don’t write many negative reviews, but this place certainly deserves one after our experience.
The food was bad and cold, we were over charged and the waiter stood there and demand a tip. After 15 days in Egypt, this was the worst food and experience we had.
Located on “Station Street” or Sharia al Mahatta, this restaurant is just off the end of the souq. We ordered kushari, shawarma, kofta, and salads. The Kusahri was good, and relatively inexpensive. However, we would recommend that you stay away from the shawarma, kebobs and kofta as the quality was bad and they were cold.
Being overcharged, and having a waiter demand a tip topped off our experience – stay away unless you are getting kusahri as take out.
