This was one of the best hotels of our Egypt trip. It is located on Luxor's quieter west bank, just a short walk from the ferry to the busier East bank. It was very easy and cheap to take either the national ferry or one the small private boats back and forth for 2LE. One night we were running late and for 20LE ($2.25 at the time), hired our own boat to drop us right by the Luxor Museum. There was easy proximity to good small restaurants and street food and, obviously, easy taxis to the west bank sites.

The hotel was lovely -- our room had a small fridge and a nice balcony overlooking the Nile and it was sunny and very clean. It had a refrigerator, a couple of tables for our luggage, nice bathroom and small balcony with chairs, so was perfect for buying food and bringing it back for a quiet dinner watching the Nile. Their breakfast (included) was huge, delicious (omelette!), and served in the rooftop restaurant. They have a lovely small swimming pool, perfect after a hot day of tomb visits; they have free water in the lobby, a shared small library and a printer if you need it. Only minor annoyance was that WiFi didn't work great in the room. But it was fine in roof-restaurant or lobby-pool area.

El Mesala's owner was extremely helpful as we tried to figure out an affordable return to Cairo and was the person who finally helped us understand what was going on at the time with the exchange rates (a whole story in itself). One young man on staff at the hotel (named Islam?) stood out because he steadfastly refused tips, saying all help provided was "his job". The hotel is happy and able to arrange taxi, trips, guides. He helped us with taxis, but we had already found a wonderful guide in Luxor, so introduced them. He could connect you. She's not listed on TA (yet) so please send a PM to me if you want more info.

There were few tourists at the hotel during our stay, although there were more in Luxor than elsewhere. Perhaps they were with cruise ships? If so, they missed out. I would strongly recommend this hotel. I was very sorry to leave it.

Favorite hotel in Egypt! Stay here for real Egyptian hospitality at a family run place- we were treated royally, upgraded to a Nile view room for free, and were even invited into Kareem's home for a visit. (Kareem, the co-owner, is really awesome BTW, we had so much fun chatting with him. The cook is awesome, too). The pool is fantastic and the staff would even bring us out snacks or fresh juice when we were hanging out there for a while. The terrace restaurant is excellent- a romantic view of the nile at night and LOTS of yummy home cooking. The room had everything and was cleaned every day- (the room had towels, toilet paper, soap/shampoo, phone, armoire, tv, and fridge- I mention it because you won't find these amenities at most budget hotels in Egypt!) Riding the ferry to/from the East Bank is easy and pleasant, so don't let the West Bank location deter you from staying at this awesome hotel.

A excellent value for money choice.
Spectacular Nile view (opposite Luxor Temple), good rooms and a friendly & helpful staff. A nice rooftop restaurant, swimming pool.
A Few meters walking distance from ferry.
My 3rd stay here, hardly recommended !!!
I will come back again, Luxor first choice.

Have stayed at some of the bigger hotels on the East Bank, but decided to try this Little budget hotel, just a small walk from the ferry on the West Bank.

The room I had had a lovely view overlooking the Nile with a good sized balcony. Have to say the air conditioning was superb and kept me nice and cool. The wifi on the East Bank is so incredibly slow, but it was perfect at El Mesala. Wifi available on the roof top terrace, which has an enviable view.

My room was cleaned daily and I was treated to the most wonderful array of towel art from the cleaner. He told me he used to work in a large five star hotel in Hurghada, but due to the lack of tourism he has been lucky enough to secure a position at El Mesala, and how lucky are they!

The room was comfortable and breakfast served on the roof top terrace. It included fresh fruit, cheese, tomatoes, yoghurt, bread rolls, jam, butter, and a freshly cooked omelette. As much tea and coffee as you could drink.

I ate on the roof top terrace one evening having shish tawook one of my favourite dishes, and it was delicious. The food is freshly cooked, so do expect a bit of a wait while they prepare it. Sitting on that terrace with a drink and that view, is no problem at all.

If you have any requests or issues, they will gladly do their best to accommodate and help you.

I was a solo female traveller and always felt safe and secure and received no hassle at the hotel whatsoever.

The pool was small but refreshing for a swim after a morning in the sun, and is nicely screened from the road, so you are very private.

This is a budget hotel, with everything you need, and is excellent value for money. So different from staying on the East Bank, quieter, less hassle, and I found they didn't try and rip you off in the local shops when buying supplies. It was lovely to walk round the backstreets and see the fields, crops, and Nobi Riding stables with their horses.

I will be back again.
