Reviewed 6 May 2014

We stayed at Villa Nile House in early April and were very, very impressed. The accommodation and surroundings are beautiful and the team are really friendly and helpful. We felt very safe and welcomed and it was a relaxing change from the hustle of Cairo. Make sure you take them up on the offer of dinner which is delicious.

Villa Nile House is located on the west bank of Luxor, so it's nice and quiet, away from all the hustle and bustle of the town centre on the east bank. But, you're also only a 5 minute boat trip across the Nile to get to the east bank, so you get the best of both worlds. It is longer to get to the west bank by taxi from the airport, so your taxi fare will be slighhtly more expensive, but we thought it was worth it. The rooftop terrace has great views of the Nile and there are a few restaurants and a laundromat close by (but we didn't use them as everything was taken care of by the Hotel).

We had a twin four poster bed room which included mosquito nets. The ensuite was nicely appointed which drained the water properly from the shower (this is unusual for Egypt) and you could flush loo paper down the toilet (unheard of in Egypt). The aircon was okay, but we did need to also use the fan as the temperature could be intermittent. The room was very clean and serviced with fresh towels every day.

THE FOOD HERE IS AMAZING! We didn't need to use any of the restaurants near by as we were hooked on Chef's cooking from the moment we arrived. We were arriving late from Cairo, so asked them to organise dinner for us so that we wouldn't have to go out to find it after we arrived. We didn't specify what we wanted - just 'dinner for two' with one of us being vegetarian. Well, we were blown away! The food was so fresh and flavorsome and a vegetarian's dream. Meat eaters needn't worry though as my husband, who would eat meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner if he could, was more than satisfied with his meals. After our first evening, we decided to have all our meals at the hotel (breakfast was included already, which includes pancakes, flat bread, omlettes, yoghurt, fig jam, honey, tea and coffee!). We ordered our lunches from the menu, but asked chef to surprise us for dinner. And we were never disappointed. The food was a bit pricier than what we had experienced in Cairo but the quality was far superior (like comparing McDonald's food and prices with a really nice restaurant), so we were more than happy to pay the extra - which was still very reasonable (we still came in under our budgeted food allowance each day).

Everyone here was super helpful and polite. We went for a swim in the very clean pool one day and without even asking, one of the staff brought us pool towels. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone was genuinely friendly. It's a place where you feel welcome and at home.

Overall: we'd be back here in a flash! Even if we could afford to stay somewhere a lot more expensive, we would choose to come back to this place. The people are wonderful, the rooms are lovely and the food is amazing. As with many places in Egypt, the outside of the place is deceiving - when we stepped out of our taxi on our first night we both looked at each other thinking "oh dear", but all that immediately changed when we stepped through the gates into what can only be described as an enchanting oasis. This may be classed as a 3 star B&B but it punches well above its weight.

NB: Villa Nile House is NOT the same as Villa Nile Hotel. Villa Nile Hotel is about 3 mins from Villa Nile House and looked like a standard commercial 3 star hotel. This review is for Villa Nile House which was anything but standard :)

My partner and I stayed here and had a lovely stay. The staff was thoughtful and the owner helpful, without being overly persistent (which is a massive problem in egypt right now, lots of desperation which is heart breaking). It was a welcome break from the craziness of the east bank. We'd recommend, unless you are allergic to cats (the place had about 15-20 cats that were always hungry and hovering around).

For Independent travellers who are looking for a safe retreat in Luxor where they can have every confidence in all contacts and advice provided, we cannot recommend this little hotel more highly. Mustafa has received so many good reviews along with his team, all deserved, great food, good location and charming rooms, but overall the warmth and friendliness makes this shine. We visited earlier this year, Egypt is not having an easy time for tourism but for those who are adventurous and can weather this storm go to see this beautiful country and receive the hospitality and care offered.

Villa Nile House: The best place to be in Luxor if you want to relax and visit...
I have been there with my family and I was really sad to leave this fantastic place!
The Villa is full of "charme", the staff is amazing with a big smile, the food is always fresh and GREATE and the rooms are very nice decorated and cosy!
Go there and have a wonderfull dinner (with the amazing food made by the chef Mahmoud) on the terrace with a breathtaking view on the nile and on the ruins.
The manager Mustafa found for us a very good guide to visit all the amazing places that Luxor can offer you.

Perfect place to go with children...the staff is amazing with them like they are their own children!
You can feel there like at home better then any big palace!
We are really looking forward to go back there!

No doubt. The best place to be in Luxor on the West Bank. Exceptional setting, terraces on different levels, a quiet pool and, on demand, a fantastic dinner. The owner is very friendly and the staff helpful. The right spot on that side of the river, connected to the East Bank with a ferry or private boat. On request you can reach Karnak Temple by the river.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with private balcony.

Nile House is great place to stay, brilliant location and fantastic value, but what makes it special is Mustafa - the way he looks after you, literally from the moment you get off the plane until you get back on it. Nothing is too much trouble, and it is very much personal attention, both in the hotel, and on the trips he organises. The trips are very good, with great guides and drivers e.g. we did a full day tour of the west bank with a very knowledgable guide and driver (both called Tayyeb) for the great price of £45. The atmosphere in the hotel is so friendly and welcoming, and it is like walking into a friend's house. If you are going to Luxor, this really is the only place to stay. You could not want for anything more - there is good pool, loungers, umbrellas, good food wifi, and the service, anytime of the day or night is immediate - nothing is too much trouble. The location might be considered quirky but this adds to the charm of the place. Do not be put by the dusty road outside - this is an Egyptian holiday oasis. This area of the west bank has a great "real Egytian" atmosphere - everyone in the nearby shops and cafes were helpful and charming, particualry Ibrahim the barber who does a mean cut throat shave for £2.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Nefertiti romm which was lovely.
