Al Baeirat is a perfect place to stay in luxor if you dont want bright lights on your doorstep and lots of places to eat nearby. Alternatively, if what you do want is peace and quiet, a sense of real egyptian life, a very family-feel small hotel, delicious egyptian food, spotless room and bathroom, friendly service - then its for you. But it is a LSD1 taxi ride partly on mud roads to Gezira - or 20 mins on a bicycle, or alternatively a 5 minute trip across the Nile in the little boat always at your disposal to just by the Sheraton, from where you have another LSD1 taxi ride to the centre of Luxor. We were delighted not to be in downtown Luxor with all the hassling etc, and much preferred bicycling and walking throught the village or over the mountains to the tombs - but this meant that we did eat in most nights, a restricted menu, but delicious and clean, and much better than our one sortie to a well known restaurant downtown...Eating is either outside - mornings and afternoons - or under a tented awning on cold evenings. So if that sounds like you - go!!

I reached it with a feluca and had their lunch served on the boat. the day after I had one lunch sitting at their table. both were excellent. location is great as you are eating just on the bank near the river. food is very good. prices absolutely cheap and atmosphere very friendly.

The Al Baierat is probably the best stay you'll ever have in Luxor . Its friendly and professional, ethical and authentic in a great spot on the Nile West Bank. Food is fantastic, beer cold.-go soon,
Wifi was a little temperamental but I know they are now trying to make it more reliable

Room Tip: Check about wifi reception

Al Baeirat gave my husband and I a wonderful, relaxing honeymoon. Staff were always smiling and attending to our every need.

The air-conditioned bungalows are comfortable and the bathroom showers had a generous amount of hot water and excellent presure. Everyday they made us smile with a surprise on our beds made from towels, we especially loved the crocodile!

The location is set on the Westbank on the nile which means you have beautiful views of the river, village life and are far away from the craziness of the city but only 5 minutes from Luxor's extraordinary sites. In addition to the free shuttle boat service the staff also took us for a free sunset cruise which everyone loved. The hotel feels like one big happy family and staff are employed from the local village and are paid fair wages.

The food was simply divine! The hotel grows their own fruit, vegetables and herbs which shines through in there fresh, tasty meals. For dinner we received a wide selection and generous servings while we sat and enjoyed the view each night. At breakfast both Egyptian and European food is served.

It was the most enjoyable experience we had in Egypt and we were thoroughly impressed. I encourage anyone who enjoys delicious food, a high standard of service, wonderful and non- intrusive staff, clean comfortable rooms and amazing views of the nile on the peaceful West bank to stay at this hotel!! My husband and I can't wait to go back and see our happy friends again.

My husband and I were looking to stay at the Hilton for our honeymoon, but after reading the reviews for this place we decided to give it a try....and we couldn't have been happier!!

On arriving at the train station we were greeted by a friendly driver who transported us to the wharf, where we boarded our own boat to cross the River Nile from they busy East Bank to the beautiful West Bank. There we were greeted by the manager, Mohamed, himself, who showed us to our rooms - our own private tour. The rooms were beautiful egyptian style clay villas, each with its own seating area amongst the vegetable gardens and tall sunflowers. The beds were embedded within the wall in alcoves, easily fitting two people. The bathroom was roomy and hot water was plentiful. Everything you need was there - towels, mini bar, tea, coffee, soap, clean sheets, power adapters, safe, wireless internet etc. The grounds are very tidy, with beautiful gardens right on the bank of the nile and a beautiful pool and lounge area.

The owner is very helpful when it comes to organising day trips or various activities. He has lots of advice to give about things to do and services in the area.

We ate at the hotel both nights and the quality and quantity of food that was served to us (not to mention the incredible prices) was outstanding. The chef waited on us himself and used fresh produce grown on their own property to produce the meals. The dining area had a great communal feel and we were able to mix with some other wonderful guests. From there we could watch felucas drift across the Nile and the sunset fall over the East Bank. On the first night, the hotel provided guests with a free sunset cruise and tea on their boat, the perfect end to our first day. On the second night we were honoured with dancers and cake, a present for our honeymoon, organised and provided by Mohamed himself. We had a beautiful night full of dancing, food, beer, wine and sheesha!

Breakfast was very generous, again lots of freshly baked bread, pancakes, omlettes, fruit, yogurt and more. Each member of staff was equally helpful and friendly, making us feel extremely welcome and special. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of service we received - each worker was willing to do anything possible to make our stay amazing, and they did. I am very grateful to have been able to spend my honeymoon there. I was very sad to leave and will definately be back.

The East Bank is very quick and easy to access, however if you want somewhere peaceful, away from the hussle and of fantastic quality to stay i would definately recommend this hotel.

Thank you for making our holiday so special. We look forward to coming back with friends...and maybe one day soon, family :)

Great location, on the West Bank, next to the Nile, but with only dirt track access (hire a bicycle to make the most of it!) but with helpful staff who will ferry you across from by the Sheraton (what a *#! contrast) Excellent and good value food available, much of it grown on site or locally sourced.Excellent accommodation, each with its own vegetable garden and seating area. One of those "low key" initiatives that deserves to succeed. Everyone of the staff was a "gem" of generosity/hospitality.

Room Tip: It really doesn't matter, all are quiet and have the same facilities

Perfection!

Clean and cosy private huts with AC, Mahmood the incredible chef, Alleh the friendly captain of their boat and Mohamed the best host in Egypt.

We made friends for life at this hotel and spent the majority of our time in Luxor lazing by the pool and eating the best cheese sandwiches u could imagine. Each night was a feast of local delicacies and Sheesha.

Sure it's a fair way out of town but it's a 10min trip across to the East Bank and every tour company will meet you for no charge.

We were taught local culture, met locals, helped wheelbarrow bricks for Alleh's house, attended a coptic christian wedding and took home memories we will cherish for ever. Stay here if you want to experience real Luxor outside of the touts ripping u off in the city.

Sorry for the belated review,

Love Garth and Emily (Australia)
