Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor
Ranked #3 of 54 Hotels in Luxor
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 14 September 2012

Once again we have had another wonderful holiday at the Winter Palace. Things had changed a little, there is a new Executive chef Ms Menad Berkani, who has created a most wonderful menu of extremely high standard and variety, an infusion of flavours and textures not seen elsewhere in Luxor, so passionate about food Menard is always to be seen talking to guests around the hotel discussing his menu.
As usual the staff are simply outstanding and nothing is too much trouble, they thrive on making your stay memorable.
I must also mention the fabulous massage I had daily at the hotel (just ask guest relations to book) having arthritic joints and a bad back and having had plenty of treatment in the UK my wife and I were extremely impressed with the professional massages we both had, personally I have not had better. Ash and his team provide first class treatment at a fraction of a UK price, a full hour equates to just £25, less than half the price of a decent session in the UK. Treat yourself, you wont be sorry.
I wont waffle further except just to say thank you again to all at Winter Palace. If you visit, you must eat in the historic 1886 restaurant and experience the wonderful ambiance.
We will be back soon.

Room Tip: Nile view rooms catch the evening Sun, Garden view rooms the morning Sun.

The Winter Palace remains the colonial jewel in Luxor's Crown. Ideally located accross from the Nile near the Luxor Temple and Cornische. Breakfast is stylish and plentyful with the usual high standard of service. Rooms are stunning with care taken to turn back bedding at nights and delight guests with designs created with quilts and flowers. The pool area is set in perhaps the most beautiful gardens in Egypt. Is is quiet, clean and relaxing. No children allowed and notices ask for peace and quiet. You are offered thick excellent quality towls to lay by the pool on. Staff bring refreshing complimentary fruits on sticks at hot periods. The gardens are stunning, adding to an even more luxurious feel. The place reeks of a colonial age. I was expecting Agatha Christie or Churchill to be in the high tea lounge!

Room Tip: Garden views are cheaper than Nile ones, but are better I think for the none stop car horns that you...

We stayed here as a couple and spent 8 days followed by a 6 day Nile cruise. I have to say that the hotel was absolutely stunning. The food was excellent, the staff couldn't be more helpful and the facilities were very good. We walked into the back streets one evening as we wanted to see the 'real' Luxor and it's an eye opener to say the least. The poverty is quite astonishing, however we felt safe the whole time and the kids thought it was great having tourists in the run down alleys.
A lovely holiday topped off by the most beautiful sun sets I've ever seen, similar to in Dubai but much redder.

i have been staying at this hotel now for well over 8 years and have not got one bad word to say about it!

its filled of history, howard carter himself announcd tutankhamuns discovery from that very place.

the staff are all great, they can not do enough for you and are always there for you.
the pool attendants are so friendly, so much so that i consider them my extended family now.

this hotel is truly heaven on earth.the rooms are a little dated maybe but i love that, its got real character and im glad they have stuck to the grand victorian style rather than modernise, its what makes the winter palace special.after all it was built in 1886 for king farouk!!

i would never stay any where else in luxor.this hotel is amazing, and i always recomend it.cant wait to go back again next year.

We were upgraded from Pavilion to Winter Palace.it was amazing.Very good staff, food is very good.the gardens and pool are magnificent & very quiet. You don't even need to go out if you are after a relaxing day. Gardens are big enough to make you feel so relaxed. We went B&B.Breakfast is very good, variety of foods available. The views from the Garden view were amazing.
Only thing I was a bit put off were the lizards, which is not an issue if you are not afraid of creepy crawl lies but for someone like me, it was a little bit of an issue. But everything else is just extra ordinary. Location is perfect for going around, you can get all sorts of transport just outside the hotel.I liked the old carpets and furniture, that makes you feel like you are actually in a palace. I will highly recommend it to anyone thinking of booking it.

Dear guests, thank you very much for your great feedback. We apologize about the small lizards. Unfortunately, they are hard to control, but at least they keep the mosquitos away. My second trip to Luxor in July/August, in Ramadan again! Got upgraded, again. to the Winter palace from the Pavilon, and had a Nile view room. The service is excellent, the staff recognise you and welcome you back as a friend. The gardens and pool are magnificent and quiet, usually with no or very few children. A fantastic relaxing sunbed awaits you with towels laid out for you, just what you need after a morning visiting temples and/or tombs. Breakfast is still a sumptuous feast, to my eyes, more choices than you could imagine.Everything is old world charm in this hotel, it's a real treat, one that I could never afford in Europe. Go for it.

Room Tip: Nile view good for sunset over the Theban hills, garden view gets sunrise.

Staying here is like stepping back into Edwardian Britain - the decor would suit Agatha Christie and her famous Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot perfectly. Old colonial, complete with afternoon tea (cant be missed!) There is even a dress code for the bar. Beautiful vistas of the gardens from the rooms, reasonably comfortable beds makes this hotel stay a delight. We breakfasted here, great selection, wonderfully attentive staff.

Also, if you step outside the hotel, to your right I believe is a shop run by the Gaddis family - they have been around for about a century. You can buy all your souvenirs, from cheap keychains to expensive jewellery here, and get pretty good deals.

The hotel staff accommodated us by posting mail for us too - really, the service was magnificent.

Dear guests, thank you very much for your comments about your latest stay at the Sofitel Winter Palace. We are glad that you enjoyed the hotel services and our restaurants. The Gaddis book shop is famous for its high quality selection of books and photographs, as plenty of those pictures were taken by the family over 80 years ago. They opened up in the Palace arcade in 1907 and are part of the history of our hotel. We hope to welcome you back to Luxor in the close future. Kind regards, Christian Ruge, General Manager
