This is without a doubt one of the best hotels in Egypt, and definitely the best place to stay in Luxor. Despite it’s aging interior, it conjures up a bygone era in every way: in the hallways, the rooms, the restaurant and grounds. Even the staff echo an old world of luxury and wonderfully personal service. They have signature rooms like the King Farouk room that have some of Egypt’s last kings’ personal bedroom furniture when this palace served as one of his homes. I cannot recommend the amazing Winter Palace enough to any traveller.

Walk through the front door and enter into another world. The hustle and bustle of Egyptian life is no where to be found within these walls.
The place is simply very elegant and has probably been like this for over 100 years. The problem is I think that the hotel relies too much on its past reputation and some parts of the hotel really do need an upgrade.
Nevertheless the service is excellent and staff are generally quite charming. But this place is exorbitant on the cost front, such as £15 sterling pounds for a GandT by the pool.
The evening meals were ok. We dined in the main restaurant each evening and the food was good but I wouldn’t say outstanding.....and it should be. The wine mark-up is horrendous and what more guy cost you £6 in the UK will cast at least £40+ in the restaurant- but what can you do? You cannot have a decent evening meal without the wine now can you!
We stayed in a garden facing room and it was superb ( better in my view that the Nile View rooms where you have to contend with the main road and general noise outside. The room we stayed in could not be faulted. It was excellent and spacious and very comfortable.
If you come to Luxor and can afford it if only for one night.... just do it. To hell with the expense. It is not every day one stays in one of the finest hotels in the world.
