We stayed at the Winter Palace for 3 nights. The hotel was quite pleasant and perfect for our purpose. We had booked our tours through Rameses which we were very pleased with as all the other tour operators in the area were herded round in coaches with up to 30 or 40 people on one tour. We enjoyed our trips because we had a tour guide to ourselves and avoided the crowds with our own driver whisking us from one destination to another. The hotel booked us onto a hot air balloon ride over the West bank which was good but they forgot to tell the company that there were two of us and only booked one place. The food in the hotel was OK. We dined at the 1886 restaurant at the hotel which had been recommended on the internet as an amazing dining experience. Well, I have eaten at many fine eating establishments around the world and this one was not even near the top 30. The service was good as we were the only guests in the restaurant that evening (now I know why). The food was very expensive which would have been worth it had it been any good. On a more positive note, the cleaning staff who serviced our room twice a day were very friendly and attentive. The room service food was much better than in the restaurant, I loved the chocolate eclair...delicious!! Paying the extra cost to have a Nile view was well worth it and we utilized the balcony everyday. As avid tea drinkers we would have liked to have had tea making facilities in the room but had to call room service every time we wanted a cup of tea.

Once again we have just returned from another wonderful stay in the Old Winter Palace Luxor, clearly this is still Sofitels "Jewel on the Nile" it never disappoints us. The hotel is still our favourite in Egypt and we have stayed there many times, its not that we are stuck in our ways, far from it, its just that at the Winter Palace you get the best of what Egypt has to offer all wrapped up in an elegant and charming package, from beautiful interiors and superior rooms to first class attentive staff and fine dining in the superb 1886 restaurant (jackets and ties please gentlemen as we must maintain its finesse) with an excellent swimming pool and beautiful gardens one could stay quite comfortably within its romantic walls without so much as taking a step into the real world, just outside the front door however is a world of excitement there for the taking, Luxor really does have a lot to offer as a tourist attraction and can equal anywhere else in the world for wow factor. If you do decide to treat yourself to a stay at this hotel, please say hello to everyone and you will experience one of the best holidays of your life, and after all life is Magnifique and the world is at your door. Thanks again to all Winter Palace staff for another wonderful memory, hope to see you all next year....Mr Steve.
If anyone has any specific questions relating to this hotel they would like to ask then I would be more than happy to answer them.

This was my second trip to luxor and probably my sixth time in egypt. I would like start with the rooms in this hotel and say the rooms are nice clean and spacious, each room has a plasma t.v and the bathrooms are clean and luxiorious. However, the lobby area are not to what every ones liking as its quit dark and very quiet. I guess the hotel guests are a certain type meaning certain class, so we were'nt use to that as the other hotels me and my family have been to are to those where lobies are bright and lively with people talking and relaxing. Some parts of the hotel is architectual preserved from the early 1900 so there is really nice victorian like deco this theme runs through the lobby area and hotel retaurant's so its good fro those who are into that type of thing, but the rooms are fully renovated and as modern as any other five star hotel room. Facilities in the hotel are good with free wifi internet in the lobby area. Hotel service i would say is A1 with the rooms cleaned really well every day and the hotels receptionist Ahmed Orabi an absolout gentleman and very proper whom treats all guests plesently and allways asking "is every thing ok" and etc.. The break fast was good but we chose to have half board as there is great food to be tried outside. The hotel is sittuated at a great location as its two minutes away from luxor templeon your right and right infront of the great river nile.

After several bookings since 2005, a first review of our stay at the Pavillion of the Winterpalace Luxor Egypt. The complex inclusive the garden has a high standard and we always look forward to stay there. In all those years the service was great and most of the time of a constant level. The combination of the Gardenwing (Pavillion) and the service of the total Winterpalacecomplex is our reason to book it everytime we are in Luxor and want this kind of service. The demolishing of the large flat (New Winterpalace) is one of the best things they could do. Their plans for the near future are ambitious. We stayed in the low season (july) and the booking via internet is the best way for a good price. So if you want to stay in Luxor at the Eastbank, we highly recommend The Winterpalacecomplex. Historical atmosphere mixed with modern high standard service. At this moment they remodel the rooms of the Pavillion. So it will be better for visitors the coming time. We had again a great time in Luxor because of the good service of this hotel and the very best tourist assistance you can get for transport and guiding for indepentant travellers: Hassan of luxortaxi.com. No hassle (booking in advance) and well English speaking, using a Toyota Corolla, new from 2009.

We received a warm welcome on arrival which was a great start. The rooms high ceiling added to the air of luxury. We strongly recommend a gardens view. Very good service and a high level of comfort at the pool enhanced relaxation. This hotel is a very clean and professionally managed haven. Across the road from the hotel front door, the River Nile glides-by. Avoid eye contact with irritating taxi and river-trip touts who frequent the street and quay. We tended to rely on good guidance from hotel reception and customer relations personnel; ask for Ahmed. Enjoy a beer and maybe more at Murphy's Irish Bar down-town Luxor. The B&B rate in early July was surprisingly competitive for such a high quality hotel.
