Right on the Corniche across from the West Bank - Fabulous location, within walking distance to Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple and the Souks. Friendly, caring staff. Great food, great amenities, all in a tranquil garden setting and cool pool.

Me and my family stayed at the hotel for a week and we weren't disappointed. As previous reviews state, the grounds are shared with the more expensive Winter Palace and were well maintained and included a good choice of restaurants on site. The hotel was nearly through a full refurbishment and our rooms were newly carpeted with new tv's. The beds were comfortable and the staff helpful and polite. There was a decent enough choice at breakfast to keep you going and the location was excellent..5mins away from Luxor temple and 10-15mins from Karnak Temple. There was a Mcdonalds about 10mins away (good for a quick cheap bite) and close by to the old Souk. A taxi from the airport to the hotel should cost apprx 60-70 EP and 15-20 EP to Karnak temple.

As for Luxor itself we have all fallen in love with the city. After reading recommendations on here beforehand and getting prices for various excursions from the local travel agents we managed to get an excellent deal with Mr Hassany's Travel Agency (just along the street from the old winter palace hotel) which saved us plenty of money, the excursions were well organised with an air conditioned mini bus with just one extra traveller on our tour we practically had the tour guide to ourselves, who was both knowledgeable and well humoured. Many thanks to Mr Fox, Ahmed & Refi, for looking after us so well with some good old fashioned customer care. We thoroughly enjoyed Denderah, the tour of the West bank and would definitely recommend the hot air balloon ride which completed our trip perfectly.

We made many friends in Luxor on our short stay who showed us the 'real' egypt through their kindness and hospitality....a Big thankyou to Omar & Mohammed from the shop outside the hotel entrance!! And although the hustle and hassling of some of the taxi and calech drivers can be tiresome it is part and parcel of how traders work in countries like this. On the whole the historical landmarks and the people of Luxor make it what it is and we will definitely be going back again.

A lovely hotel in its own right inside, this comes into its own as it shares gardens, a pool and poolside restaurants with the Winter Palace next door. Service very good, plenty of style and lovely, lovely gardens. To top it off, this is right next door to Luxor Temple!

I stayed with a friend at the Pavillon in the perfect weather of October. Everything about this hotel is exceptional, particularly because you have to bear in mind that this hotel shares all the facilities of its big sister, the historic and divine Old Winter Palace - a hotel from a grand colonial world still at its finest. The gardens are simply spectacular.

I would pay particular attention to the staff, as with all Egyptians, exceptionally polite but not obsequious, willing to attend to your every need with grace and courtesy. The food was fantastic, as were the dry martinis we drank sat on the Nile Terrace sucking in the sunsets and sounds of Caleches below.

This is one hotel I will certainly return to again and again.

The hotel was what you would expect from a western style accommodation. Hotel was clean, well located, and had the necessary amenities. Good pool and great staff. Shower had a tub but very small. Anticipate the usual hassle from carriage and taxi drivers right outside the hotel.

I stayed in this Hotel for two weeks and find it hard to understand what people are complaining about for the price they paying vs what they are getting.. They are redecorating the rooms and have put in new beds, headboard and fridges. The rooms were cleaned every day and the turn down service is good. My wife complains I put my thing all over the surfaces so make it harder for staff to clean. One day, we came back early and they were still cleaning the room. Since my wife was not feeling that well so we asked them to stop. They kept trying to come back with things like new pillowcases until we basically had to throw them out. They still wanted to come back later to finish off, but we declined.

I found no problems with any meals. I had breakfast most mornings and found that food was fresh and the variety good. If people get bored with it, if they are staying for two weeks, I just wonder what they have at home for 14days. Fresh omelettes/fried eggs were available on demand. If the particular chef had gone inside, a request to one of the waiters quickly brought him out. (It was off-season, so there wasn’t exactly a queue to keep him standing there.
I had lunch at the pool most days, usually sharing one between two (EXCEPT for the desserts!) The juice bar was available every day. If no-one was manning the post all you had to do was ask. They have reintroduced the bringing round of cold (and I do mean ICE-cold) towels round about mid-day followed a short while later by a skewer of 5 or 6 pieces of fresh fruit.

Tried room service a few times - again no complaints. In fact, when we had a power cut just after they had left, having brought the trolley, the waiter returned with a candle and we had a candle-lit dinner on the balcony under the stars. Price were quite reasonable in comparison to eating in the OWP restaurants. I also enjoyed the meals in the 1886, again with no problems.

Reception has a free PC for guest use (15 mins/session, but this was not rigidly applied - else buying a card for the internet was not cheap)
The gardens are still just as beautiful and fragrant. One night while sitting in the new garden bar having a drink we met a group who had been to a drinks reception in the Old Winter Palace. They all expressed the wish that their tour operator had put them in the Pavilion instead of the hotel they were in.

If there are any problems why not just speak up at the time and give them a chance to put it right - They will do so speedily. I am always amazed at those who sit & mutter, but do not take any action to get their situation resolved, whatever it is.

Hotels make money not on the rooms but on food and beverages they sell. I have paid £1.75 for a glass of tap water with a meal in a country pub in the UK. As they say the water is free but the glass or the service is not. So think what you are getting for the prices at this Hotel and what service you get. Depending who is telling you, some have it as five stars, some as four stars. It doesn’t matter – either way it is worth the money.

Get it while it is going - No-one is saying when, but this little gem may not be available in five years as they have plans to have the whole hotel re-branded as one of the half-dozen or so Sofitel Legend Hotels. When that happens the prices will go up.
