We recently stayed in Sofitel Karnak and have to say that this is an excellent hotel.
Almost every hotel always has these perfect pictures online but once you arrive it's a rip off. Sofitel was NOT one of those. The food was great, the rooms were clean, bed comfortable, and spacious. The hotel has a great pool, bar and restaurant too.
From the very beginning, each and every staff member I encountered at Sofitel was pleasant, polite, and willing to help in any ways could. I was extremely pleased with the Sofitel staff and could not ask for better in that regard.
We would like to thank you to Mr. Emad, Mr. Aziz and all members of staff for looking after us so well.
This is an excellent hotel that I recommend to any and everyone.

Forget the other hotels if you are looking for price/quality - at least for the moment.

If the location is not perfect and the view on some electric piles and threads over the the Nile are definitely far from aesthetic, at the contrary, many rooms, and all of the gardens are delightful.

Free sauna, tennis, swimming pool, polite and helpfull staff - less hautain and agressive than some of the male employees at the desk of Jolieville who judge you on your expenditures.

The prices of the drinks ( a stupid beer at £E 35) and food are rather prohibitive, so you have to organise yourself a bit.

For the rest, at 14,5 to 16 € pp., B&B at Sofitel Karnak is absolutely amazing.
The hotel is not 100% as attractive as King's Island Jolieville with it's huge domain, but is an excellent alternative if you want to save about 30 to 40% on hotel expenditure.

Important: the minibusses with a yellow stripe below can bring you to Luxor in about 10-15 minutes for 50 piasters only.
The taxis charge 10 £E on the way to Luxor, and £E 20 on the way back.

At our judgement, Sonesta offers for the moment the best P/Q rate for dinner ( the Japanese restaurant with 30% discount before 7 pm, and their really excellent chateaubriand à la béarnaise.

I really enjoyed my stay at Sofitel Karnak
Pros:
Sunset views of the Nile
Friendly & competent staff
Well kept grounds & facilities
Rooms are nice, somewhat small with nice patio which was great for drying wet clothes
Bank ATM on premises
Salon, spa, gift shops etc... On premises
Tasty breakfast buffet
Nice pool

Cons:
Wi-Fi almost useless
Wi-Fi only works in hotel lobby & the connection rarely worked & when it worked-- was very slow
Example: unable to update FaceBook or upload a few photos
Hard wired Ethernet connection or in-house pc was available at considerable up charge!
Coffee & beverage over-priced

Note: I consider the lack of reliable Wi-fi to be the Sofitel Karnak's biggest drawback

We have came back from the hotel 4 days ago, it was our 3rd trip to Egypt and I am in a rush to recommend the place!
Amazing! Whenever you travel on leisure, for business, with family, as a couple or single or you will enjoy it, have all the expected facilities and more to satisfy your expectations!
There is no way you can get bored or run out of places within the resort to spend your time.
Great choice of restaurants, fantastic food, friendly, professional staff:
- a la card - you can eat inside or outside surrounded by the most picturesque, relaxing scenery of the Nile, palm trees, garden and the lights/candles just add up to the magic.
- set buffets which change their international theme daily and spoil you for a choice; the decor is very atmospheric in the ancient style with columns, heliographs and statutes - bright and relaxing at this same time, you can also dine outside with the magical view of the west bank of the Nile - you got to have your camera with you;) Egyptian Tuesdays - were fantastic!
All staff makes you feel welcome, feel as you are a friend long waited for, giving you all the privacy at this same time and before you leave you already plan your next visit. Very well managed place.
Restaurants and bars are very well run and good value for money. Easy going atmosphere and very friendly environment. Food is scrumptious, whichever restaurant you choose and Chef himself comes out to guests making sure everything is up to their satisfaction. We were on bed and breakfast basis but will recommend to go for all inclusive – so you have no excuse to try it all!
There is also little shop just outside the gate of the hotel with the cheapest bottles of water in whole Egypt!

Rooms are clean, spacious and well air-conditioned. Extra touches from housekeeping creating fancy towels decoration on your return.
The resort has ideal position for sunsets behind the Nile, which you can view from the restaurants, swimming pool, garden and lovely 1st floor open bar, where they also serve shisha.
All the shops at the hotel have set and very reasonable prices for quality goods; no haggling and very polite, friendly and knowledgeable advisors - nice, refreshing change after experience in pushy and aggressive at the time Cairo...
Recreation facilities available at the pool – tennis, pool, football tables, games, water slides, gym, spa, massages, beauty salon, open air amphitheatre with evening entertainments on chosen days and many more.
It is a “must try” at least once in your life destination!

Room Tip: If you choose a room on the ground floor you will privilidge from the nice seating area with table a...

My partner and i went to the sofitel Karnak with our 5 month old son, it was a lovely hotel! We found it was very pushchair accessible, our rooms were sparse but immaculate. The food was very nice (especially in the pool side bar) It was close to all ammenities and the hotel provided a free boat to get to the other side of the island where the winter palace was. It claimed to be a 5 star hotel and it truley was. My only complaint was that we couldnt have stayed longer!!

this was our 10th time in luxor, the very first was at the emelio hotel, then to the winter palace, another couple in between to the jole ville for the last 4 visits
this year we thought we would try something else,so the sofitel karnack came up on the radar,
we arrived at the hotel, mira the receptionist could not be more helpfull,we were taken to our room, nice ,room service was asked for as it was getting late, that was very good,in the morning we went for breakfast, the staff in the resturant were very good, the breakfast selection was a bit spartan, but was fresh, and plentifull hey onwards and upwards,we went to the pool area, the pool was nice, the pool furniture was quite tired, the pool staff were not what you would expect, they would talk and shout constantley from the pool bar to the pool resturant to the pool info centre where you get towels, which on a couple of occasions we went behind to get our own as there was no one there, the service from the pool bar was at best slow,it would seem that the hotel is primarily geared up for all inclusive if which we were not,we prefer to pay for food ect at the time of service not sign to the room, when we tried to pay we were always told we have no change ect, this was one of my biggest bugbears,
so in summary
the reception staff, mira and the boys were brilliant, the resturant staff were as good, the room was ok,the pool was good, the pool and out side staff left something to be desired,

This is now becoming our second home quite literally - we stayed here in January '12 and are returning in June this year which will total up to be our 12th stay. (Soubds sad but we travel all over Egypt during any one given year and try to spend a few weeks in Luxor without fail) We absolutely love it here and in Luxor itself and have seen and experienced many things including the good and the bad but the hotel is always faultless, the staff and management go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible and 'problems' if they arise are dealt with efficiently and pleasantly - nothing is ever too much trouble and all the staff work extremely hard to maintain the hotel and grounds standards which are delightful. Unfortunately I was taken ill in January and the doctor could not have been more helpful and the staff were very accommodating towards my having to stay in the room for nearly a week - I was unfortunate enough to get shingles of all things.

Get out and about too - there are many great places to eat in Luxor or take the passenger ferry across the Nile and try a restaurant on the west bank; one of the local drivers outside the hotel will willingly negotiate good rates for all your journeys.

Take the train to Cairo or Luxor - just turn up and buy the tickets at the station and get on the train (maybe not Cairo at the moment.......) - we went to Aswan for the princely sum of £8.10 (Sterling) per person return

Roll on June and the heat
