We stayed at the Jolie Ville in Jan 2011 and enjoyed it so much we returned for the same week this year. It's even better now, thanks to the completion of the building works that were going on last year, which blocked off some of the island. You can now walk down to the south end of the island, with new accommodation and an impressive new pool. Sadly the extra accommodation has come at the wrong time for them as once the Christmas/New Year guests had left there were very few visitors - maybe 100 in a hotel that takes 600 plus.

We caught the last few performances of the jazz band and thought they were very good - accomplished musicians playing traditional jazz very well and clearly enjoying themselves. Their last breakfast performance was very jolly, adding to that wonderful experience of breakfast in the sun on the banks of the Nile, but no doubt if they played morning and evening every night of your stay it could be too much of a good thing.

The poolside experience remains fantastic - lots of space, unobtrusive service and choice of conviviality by the pool or a quieter spot on the lawns overlooking the Nile. The food remains very good but not quite up to last year's standard - I think there's a bit of re-using going on (the potatoes at our second La Fleur meal seemed re-heated). My wife was unimpressed by a tired salad at the Ascot bar, and a rushed (because the food took so long to arrive) lunch on the terrace just before leaving left me with food poisoning which made the flight home very uncomfortable. Don't let that put you off as I think the breakfast and dinner food are excellent with immaculate presentation and cleanliness - I think they're running a cut-down service at lunchtime because there are so few takers for it, and someone didn't cook (reheat?) my yellow chicken curry for long enough because we were getting impatient.

I've given sleep quality only 3 stars because of the poor soundproofing between rooms - our first neighbours were coughing non-stop most of the night, and were replaced by an elderly couple who had the TV on nearly all the time. The problem is the (locked) connecting doors which are very thin with a gap below, so it would be worth asking for a room without these.

It's very quiet there which is fine if you want a peaceful, relaxing holiday or a base for lots of trips, but as others have said there's basically nothing to do in the evening once you've eaten and it's pretty cold at night (no more than 5 degrees when we were there, but it was an unusually cool week). One thing you can rely on almost 100% is dawn to dusk blue skies and sunshine - we saw a few scattered puffy clouds one day and it was quite a novelty. They say it's seven years since it rained there...

Room Tip: Ask for a room without connecting doors. A-block is good if you want to be close to the restaurant and pools.

Dear Sunlounger10 from Somerset UK,

First; I really like your code name, it fits perfectly with our Resort!
Second; thank you very much for having stayed at our Resort this January again and for having taken the time to write your views about the Hotel.

I apologize for the shortcomings in food quality by some of the dishes served. This is not as it should be and we will work hard to improve such; especially on the consistency, presentation and quality of the served plates.
A new and highly experienced Executive Chef, I know from a former assignment, will join the kitchen team later in February. I am positive he will bring some “fresh wind” and new culinary delights to choose from to the enjoyment of our esteemed gourmet clients.

We are currently improving the sound insulation of the connecting doors between the rooms with carpets and foam and believe this problem will be solved very soon for a better, deeper and sound sleep on both sides.

The entire Jolie Ville Team is wishing you all the best and hope to be able to welcome you back home on Kings Island in the near future for the 3rd time.

I remain with,
Sunny regards from unique Luxor

Just back from 7 days at hotel.Very enjoyable and relaxing. Plenty to do during day. Hotel just minutes from Luxor. Do not book anything but b & b as it is worth while going to Luxor for dinners. My one major fault was the terrible entertainment for new years celebration. Terrible jazz band.hotel is close to all of Luxor attractions. Internet is very slow in bedrooms. Would most definatly use this hotel again. Superb swimming pools and plenty of walks in the hotel grounds

Dear Caherdavin from Limerik Ireland,

Thank you very much for having chosen the Maritim Jolie Ville Kings Island Luxor for your New Year 11/12 holidays and for taking the time to let the Tripadvisor community know about your impressions of our Resort.

I am sorry the “Down Town Cologne Jazz Band” did not match your music taste on New Year’s Eve. The Jazz Band is coming to the Jolie Ville since 20 years for this occasion and has become a sort of a tradition. To be totally honest with you; personally I would have preferred “AC/DC” or “Aerosmith” too, but these guys where simply too expensive this year! What about the “Belly Dance” and the Arabic music? Or the more modern dance group that performed, the magician and later on the Disco in the “Ascot Bar” also not good?

The slow internet late December early January was a provider problem and has been fixed meanwhile. Still its speed is not like you are used in Ireland but then again, there is and it’s free, and we are in North Africa!

The entire Jolie Ville Team is wishing you all the best for 2012 and we are looking forward to welcome you back home on Kings Island in the near future.

We stayed here for one night which is all we could afford time-wise as we were in Egypt for one week just before Christmas. We arrived early one morning and flew back late the next day and managed to pack in a lot of sightseeing and a lounge around and swim in the hotel pool. Amazing to sunbathe in December!
Having breakfast on a sunny terrace overlooking the Nile with birdsong is the best feature of this hotel. The food was delicious, the choice plentiful and staff were extremely attentive without being a nuisance. The hotel accommodation is made up of one storey buildings grouped into blocks of about 6 rooms each around the hotel grounds- typical of many African hotels. It is not in Luxor centre but a free shuttle bus to town and back is available at set times (bookable ahead)- we didn’t use it as we never organised ourselves sufficiently and taxi fares were cheap enough.
Rooms are large and functional opening directly out onto a small private terraced area with loungers and the hotel gardens. Although daytime temperatures were in the mid to high 20s (centigrade of course) night time temperatures dropped to around 6-7 so more than a fleece was needed to keep warm!
There were more tourists here than there were in Cairo, but sadly very few. On the plus side- you feel like you have the temples and tombs to yourself.
We had a drink at the Old Winter Palace (I love the place but they didn’t have the amazing offer that Jolie Ville did) and a fantastic dinner at Sofra which I highly recommend.

We have stayed at the Jolie Ville many times and our last stay in December 2011 was probably the best yet. From the moment we arrived until we reluctantly had to check out we were greeted by smiling faces and given a warm Luxor welcome by everyone we met.The staff are fantastic whether they are reception, recreation, restaurant, lifeguards, gardeners, waiters etc they always greet you with a "welcome back" and seem so happy despite the recent political upheaval.Saying that there has been very little in the way of demonstrations in Luxor and they are very frustrated that what has happened in Cairo has had an adverse impact on the tourist industry in Luxor.
The highlight of this stay for me was the Jolie Ville Champions League football tournament.I have coached football teams for many years but never witnessed the commitment shown by the various sections in this mini tournament. Most playing in bare feet and unmatching tops the players gave 100% for the cause. The recreation team wanted to adopt me as their coach, but I politely declined which proved to be a wise move as they won their game without my input..Favourites were the restaurant staff as they have three players who play in the Luxor team so I am looking forward to finding out if "my boys" can be champs this time round.
In my absence my wife made use of the new gym and also the massage and manicure facilities. She was very impressed with all of these especially the massage by Fatma.
Unlike most of the other returning guests my wife and I prefer the new bungalows which we were lucky enough to be allocated again. There is a longer walk to reception and the restaurants but we feel it is well worth it..
On the subject of Luxor town I appreciate that there is a lot of hassle and indeed there always has been. This is the Arab way but we have always found it to be light hearted and if you are firm, but polite, then the sellers, taxi drivers etc will accept this, usually adding a "maybe tomorrow?" as you go on your way. Please remember that tourists are really their only way of making money, more so at the moment so be friendly but firm.
Should you not wish to explore Luxor then there is more than enough to keep you occupied at the Jolie Ville.Three superb pools, sports facilities, gym, massage, hairdresser, wildlife and of course The Nile.Add on a couple of trips to The Valley of the Kings or the Temples at Luxor and Karnak and you have a small idea of just what makes us and a lot of others return to the Jolie Ville time and time again
Can't wait to be there again!!!!!

Dear Jean and Don from Lincolnshire,

Thank you very much for having booked your recent December holiday at Maritim Jolie Ville Kings Island Luxor once again as so many times before; it was a pleasure to have you back home with us.

Football first: The Restaurant Team won the “Jolie Ville Champions League" again this year after a breathtaking final with a near endless penalty shoot out, the final result must have been 22 to 23 or so! Your coaching talents are desperately needed with the recreation Team next time you are back.

Thank you as well very much for the nice write up and positive input not only about the Hotel but about Luxor as a destination over all. Indeed business was down last year by 60% for whole Luxor which not only hurt the Hotels but everybody who is making a living from tourism, from the little street vendor to the restaurant or coffee shop owner to the “calesh” (horse carriage) driver, etc etc.

Wishing you an excellent 2012, the Jolie Team is looking forward to welcome you back on Kings Island your home in Luxor in the near future.

Dear Louise B from Essex,

Thank you very much for your kind report on Tripadvisor and for having stayed at the Maritim Jolie Ville Kings Island Luxor.
