“Returning to our second home in Luxor”
Reviewed 20 March 2012

This will be our 7th holiday at the MJV Kings Island in Luxor arriving on the 16th of April and we cant wait to get there again,we were there in October 2011 and we had as always a fantastic holiday,we did have some problems getting a holiday as we prefer to fly from Birmingham but for some reason you can only travel from Manchester or Gatwick and the best package we could find and believe me we researched the internet vigourously was with EasyJet from Gatwick,so instead of 7 days we have 9 days for the price of 7 as Easyjet fly twice a week to Luxor, plus go onto Vouchers website and we got a voucher code for £50 off Easyjet holidays.

Last October we were upgraded for free to the new block 2 but this year its $40.00 per night I thought all returning guests were upgrade free of charge when possible?,anyways will find out on arrival at the MJV if the upgrade is chargeable or not to returning customers,we go to Taba Heights each year and stay at the Marriott and they upgrade returning guests FOC.

Anyways we are both looking very much forward to our holiday just counting the days to the 16th of April when we will meet all our old friends at the MJV again,Inshallah.

Room Tip: Upgrade to Block 7 Nile View room and watch the glorious sunsets

Dear George Hood from UK,

Thank you very much for returning back to the Maritim Jolie Ville Kings Island Luxor for the 7th time on April the 16th 2012 and for publishing the experiences you have collected during your past visits to Kings Island on Tripadvisor.

In 2011 ALL our esteemed repeat clients got a free of charge upgrade to our brand new deluxe / superior deluxe rooms in order to thank them (you) for their support and fidelity in the past. As well it was a PR action to promote the new hotel extension with its all new, fantastic and spacious deluxe rooms.

The extra charge for upgrade is USD 40.- for the deluxe & USD 60.- for the superior deluxe rooms per room per night. Or our lovely “Jolie Suites” at the absolute prime Nile view location for USD 150.- per night.

Wishing you a safe journey to the Maritim Jolie Ville Kings Island in April, we are all looking very much forward to welcome you back home on Kings Island.

I remain with,
Sunny regards from unique & spectacular Luxor

This hotel has it all:
Location: Excellent. 15 min from city center (Luxor and Karnak Temples) with a beautiful landscape.
Service: staff very helpful and professional
Breakfast and restaurant: wide range in every meal. Dinner is important since the hotel is far from the center and you will probably be tired after a day full of culture in the desert and the spectacular sunset at the hotel's swimmings pool. Thematic evenings includes Egyptian folkloric dance.
Swimming pools: 3 of them (including one only for adults), 2 heated (important for winter time). Infinity pool looks integrated with the Nile and is perfect for kids.
Rooms: we stayed in a room in front of the river. Perfect view and modern, pleasant decoration.
Camel: yes, the hotel had its own camel...
Internet: connection was poor during 'rush' hours.
But this is an extra incentive to forget the rest of the world and enjoy this great combination of culture and summer (even during the winter).
And despite the warnings about security in Egypt, we haven't had any bad experiences (not even in Cairo). Luxor was 100% safe. The lack of tourists helps the visits in historical sites. The downside is the excessive hassling of people that live from tourism.

Room Tip: Try to get one with the river view.

This was our second visit to the hotel.
We stayed there in January 2009 and again in January 2012.
We stayed in the "old" part of the hotel.
These rooms had been refurbished and were comfortable.
The staff were as helpful and friendly as ever.
The food as delicious as ever - plenty of choice.
The gardens were good and wild birds were fairly numerous.

The promised building work has now been completed.
The new buildings are two storey and look out of proportion with the original buildings.
This is a shame.
Maybe when the newly planted trees and shrubs grow they will start to blend in.

It is pleasing to note the return of more agriculture around the hotel.
There was plenty of work going on in the fields.
Hopefully all the area can be cultivated and the island can become green once more.

The evening insecticide spraying was alarming.
It could be hazardous to the staff, the guests and wildlife - not to mention the poor guy whose job it was to walk around dispending the great cloud of goodness-knows-what-chemical.

Room Tip: Always go for the "old" part which is low-rise in well established gardens. Some of the n...

we last went to this resort last august and are booked to go again this year. this will be my parents 20th visit in 14 years, whilst the resort has grown over these years it has lost none of what makes it special. it is true to a point that the hassle in the town and attractions can get a little tedious but it is nothing that ruins a holiday and by the time you've returned to kings isleand you'll soon forget it all once the staff here take care of you. on my last trp i could find nothing to complain about, we were looked after beyond our expectations and my children were given lots of attention. the resort is immaculate and a real nice retreat but what makes it special is the staff, they are always there to help and nothing is too much trouble. we are yet to stay in the newer rooms but to be honest this year we have boked the older rooms as they are everything you need them to be.
i can only speak of luxor and not other areas of egypt but you will not be dissapointed with luxor or the Maritim. it is true you will get hassled a little over at the valley of the kings but use it to your advantage, i took my daughter into a tomb that was empty of tourists, the guide at the entrance of the tomb locked it behind us and then spent nearly an hour walking round with us, explaining things to my daughter, he even lifted her up so she could see inside an empty tomb,i gave him 5 egyption pounds for which he was over the moon, for the price of a drink we got to see and do more than most, well worth it. but if sights are not your thing, stay on the resort, you are guaranteed to be looked after in a well presented, clean, friendly safe enviroment, myself, my children and my parents cannot wait to go again, when it came to booking this years holiday even my 6 year old wanted the maritim. arrival will be special as the staff always seem to recognise you from previous trips with the following welcome "welcome home".

Just like all the other reviews, we loved this hotel. The location is fantastic and the staff charming. There does seem to be some confusion over the upgrade policy and, given how empty the hotel is and how many other hotels there are to choose from perhaps a little more flexibility would be sensible. A small carp in the overall scheme of the holiday and it wouldn't stop us going back or recommending the hotel, but we were travelling as 3 adults and the third adult, sharing the same room, was charged full price (an unusual policy, I pointed out when booking) We were originally shown to a standard bungalow at the back of the resort, which was simply not big enough for 3; I really think they should have given us a better room without being asked, particularly given that we had effectively paid 50% extra for the room (incl breakfast admittedly). So of course we had to ask, and then had to pay, for an upgrade to a room that I think should have been standard if the third person was paying full price, a double room does not become a triple and command 50% more just because you squeeze an extra portable bed in it. The reception staff were really quite brusque and as it was late and we were tired we just went ahead, paid and moved. The attitude was "This is our policy, you choose". Such a shame and so misguided, we began a wonderful holiday a bit annoyed and now here I am writing what is becoming a negative review which is an unfair reflection on what was a wonderful holiday. Apart from this initial experience we absolutely loved this hotel and certainly mean to go back. We did write to the management about the third person issue and about having to pay to stay in the room per hour after midday on our day of departure (surely this is not necessary in a half empty hotel, or at the very least reception should have offered us somewhere to change and shower) and the deputy manager came to find us and kindly waived the late check out fee and explained it was hotel policy to charge for upgrades (which I understand and agree, but not when you have 3 people paying full price) but I still won't be going to this hotel as 3 again, it simply doesn't make sense to pay that much extra for a third person. Apart from the reception staff, who were usually officious or too busy on the computers to look up, the waiters, gardeners, everyone, could not have been more charming and the pools, grounds and ambience were lovely - it doesn't photograph well, so don't be put off if the photos of the bungalow blocks look like army blocks...it's much nicer in reality. Also don't be put off that it's out of Luxor, the taxis are cheap and plentiful and you have so much more space on this beautiful island. The walk along by the side of the Nile for breakfast, was a daily highpoint. Do go to Luxor now, it's safe and no crowds and everyone is so welcoming and keen for you to have a good time that it would be very hard not to fall in love with place, as we did.,

Really can't add much that other fans of the hotel have placed. It's fantastic. I think our overriding memory will be the staff's friendliness, humour and general happy demeanour. (Unfair to single any out but Okasha & Walid looked after us particularly well). Tourism is their livelihood, so it makes sense really.Good luck to them & we hope the tourism fully restores in the next year. Look forward to returning next February.
One reviewer said we should upgrade. We tried this on arrival, but have to say our original room (older in F - Nile view) was better placed and we stuck with it. They also wanted a fair bit more so it was a no brainer in the end.
Best deal. The Faluka (sail boat) from the hotel's pier is incredibly cheap at £E 20 per hour. Try it.
One final story. The airline tells you that you must pay £13 on arrival for the visa. It's not, it's £10 ($15), and you can easily get stung by the chancers in the arrival hall. Beware!

Room Tip: Go for blocks B F & C overlooking Nile

This was our 6th visit to the Jolie Ville and as our 5th was 3 years ago we was a little apprehensive about the expansion of the island. We found there was no need to worry at all, the service, cleanliness, food and general feeling of tranquillity were just as they had always been.
We asked for a bungalow on the North side of the island and were given 5 choices which was excellent. The bungalows had also been refurbished since we last stayed and although not to the standard of the new rooms ours was still more than comfortable.
We asked Amina the customer liaison manager for a tour of the new rooms. She took us to see a deluxe and a superior deluxe room, both were very nice with big bathrooms, bedrooms and wonderful views of the Nile from the balcony.
As we have seen the sights many times we spent most of our time at the infinity pool which is fabulous for kids and adults.
We had lunch at the poolside restaurant where the food and service was exemplary. In the evening we eat in the bar and again the staff could not do enough for us, to the point the chef used to make what we fancied if it wasn't on the menu.
The entertainment was purely a pianist who played every night. Although very good it became quite tedious and we would have liked to see something different.
One thing which amazed me was we were not bitten once by mosquito's. The room attendants leave regular candles and plug ins and a chap goes around every evening spraying the garden areas.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough and can't wait to return, especially as the other hotels like the Winter Palace seem to have gone really downhill.
