one of the best hotels ever stayed in, if you are looking for relaxing you should go there, the hotel is on a private island in the nile and u dont need a boat to drop u to town there is a bridge and only 10 mins to down town.
the only negative issue was the food and the portion was not good at all although the breakfast open buffet is very good

Dear Mr. Coachman from Worcester,

Thank you very much for having chosen the Maritim Jolie Ville Kings Island Luxor for your winter holiday this year, it was a pleasure to be at your service and we appreciate very much your positive comments.

If you allow I would like to rectify your statement slightly as in the meantime our renovation works have dramatically progressed. The brand new Jolie Ville Buffet Restaurant as well as our all new “Ascot Bar” with live piano entertainment is open to our esteemed guests since the 20th of December, just in time for the festive season.

As well we have now 80 more ready renovated rooms available which make’s a total of 160 renovated rooms plus 2 all new double story bungalows each with 34 deluxe and superior deluxe rooms available. The remaining 160 not yet renovated rooms will be closed as of the 10th of Jan 2011 for the very same reason. As these rooms are all in the south side of our resort the disturbance through construction will be minor especially because there are no tiles to be chipped out.

Furthermore on Jan 20th 2011 we will take the remaining buildings of our extension with a total of 264 deluxe and superior deluxe rooms as well as the all new “Horizon Pool” in operation. I hope all this makes you wanting to come back to Kings Island to see how our brand new hotel has finally developed.

Wishing you a fabulous 2011 from unique Kings Island I remain
With best regards,

After reading reviews was a bit apprehensive as the reviews close to our holiday were very negative. Well what a surprise, location excelland couldn;t have found better in Luxor. Staff at the hotel very friendly and helpful and not pressing for tips. Breakfast was very good plenty to choose from, used room service on several occassions and only charged an extra £1.50 per visit, well worth it, the only problem not enough choice. The grounds were well kept but a lot closed off for renovation work.. It did seem like a building site when we first arrived, but the next day after looking around the grounds, things did not look so bad as it was all screened off. The pools were great and a towel given to you every time you visit the pools. We booked our holiday with Thomson, The rep was Gabriel and was very helpful, we were two woman on our own and gave us lots a tips about Egypt, not just there to sell trips. The weather was fantastic blue sky every day, sun bathing weather but not too hot. When the rebuild of the hotel is finished this hotel will be fantastic. I hope we can visit again and see the difference.

A three star hotel with 5 star prices. I was charged £8.35 (L E 700) for a single gin and tonic.
The taxi drivers will take you to off licences in the back streets of Luxor, if you ask them, for booze at realistic prices.
The food ranged from adequate to abysmal (except for breakfast, which was always good.) Twice we used room service, and both times the food arrived cold. The shuttle boat service has been suspended, and the free minibus (for which you have to book) only runs once every 3 hours. So, the only way of "breaking out" of this island is to hire a taxi. It's too far, and too dangerous to walk into town.
Having said that, the location is stunning. You can listen to a classical concert (on CD) every evening as you watch the sun sink over the Nile. Unforgettable!

Dear Mr. DevonGrockle ,

Thank you very much for having chosen the Maritim Jolie Ville Kings Island Luxor to be your home during your holiday in Upper Egypt this December and for sharing your comments with the internet community.

I am very sorry that we were unable to meet your price expectations for “booze”. Please be informed that all imported alcohols are heavily taxed with 300% import tax in Egypt. We have although “local made” spirits available as well. It is clearly marked in our beverage menu and we leave it to the taste of our esteemed clients to make their very own choice.

1£ = Le. 9.06 hence your £ 8.35 could never have been Le 700.- but rather Le 75.66!
1 Gordon’s dry Gin (imported) costs Le. 55.- in the menu = £ 6.07!
1 Egyptian Gin costs Le 25.- in the menu = £ 2.76!
1 JW red label (imported) costs Le. 65.- in the menu = £ 7.18!
1 Egyptian Whiskey costs Le. 30.- in the menu = £ 3.32!

I am a bit sad that you write in the title of your comment Rip-off Hotel! As you clearly did not know about what you where actually writing. I even believe it is untrue and therefore misleading.

I am very sorry that your room service meals where not hot anymore when arriving at your room, this should not have happened and we apologize deeply.

The shuttle boat is out of order since 8 months due to unavailability of spare parts. We are awaiting a new transfer boat with up to date safety standards and comfort, to be in operation hopefully soon.

The bus schedule has been amended and we have added one more trip to and from Luxor town at 19:00 according to clients request during the last months.
From Hotel From Luxor (Winter Palace)
09:00 09:15
12:00 12:15
14:00 14:15
17:00 17:15
19:00 NEW 19:15 NEW
21:00 21:15
The bus stops at Pyramisa, Winter Palase Hotel and Station Street
I would like to mention that this is a curtsey bus which is free of charge for our clients. The reason why clients have to book is to know how many clients wish to go to town and if necessary prepare a 2nd bus.

Furthermore I’d like to mention that a TAXI from the Hotel to Luxor Town (Winter Palace) costs Le. 20.- = £ 2.21! per TAXI not person! I don’t exactly know how much a TAXI costs in London but do believe it is much more a Rip-off than in Luxor.
Dear Mr. Grockle, we are very happy to learn that you have thoroughly enjoyed Kings Island and the setting of the hotel as well as the stunning sun sets over the majestic river Nile and the classic music set up.

Hopping having the chance to welcome you again on Kings Island in the near future I remain with

Sunny greetings from unique Luxor

This hotel complex is situated as you may have realised on a private island about 2 miles from the centre of Luxor. At present there is extensive building works being carried out on the island which look as if it will be some time before they will be completed. At present rooms are located in bungalow type accommodation within the lovely grounds. It does appear that when the building works are complete there will also be a lot of apartments as well. A few of the bungalow blocks are situated near the building works and may be affected by the building works. I would suggest that you check this before you go or insist that you are not near these works.

We were situated pretty close to the works but despite all this going on we hardly noticed this as we did not spend a lot of time around the rooms and when we did we could not heaar anything from inside the room.

The two pools on this complex are superb and the sunbeds are very comfortable making it extremely easy to laze your days away sunbathing and being pampered on the fresh towels that are free of charge. The grounds and gardens are very extensive and really nice to stroll around early morning or just before dusk. We found it very idyllic and loved feeding the birds and going down to the rivers edge and feed the fish as life just passed you by on the Nile.

Besides the great food and service you get from this justifiable 5 star hotel the most amazing thing about this place is the abundant wildlife around the complex. There were pied kingfishers, black kites, senegal falcons, pelcans, egrets, herons amongst many many others which all seemed to be unphased by the human presence on the island. A must when you stop at this hotel is to book a trip with the hotel's local twitcher - he told us there are over 300 species of birds which he can recite in a multitude of languages and also tell you the number on the list he gives you - a quite amazing chap.

A trully great place to go for a winters break with assured sunshine.

It was our favorite resort, for 7 or 6 years we kept going year after year, this time we were completely dissapointed to find that every thing has changed (to the worse!!)
1- renovation was a real source of noise, distraction, and unbearable ruining for the hotel image
2- staff were calling each other, arguing, and discussing everything together in the loudest voice possible, adding to the noisy environment
3- food quality has terribly deteriorated, no welcome drink, no wide range of options at breakfeast & dinner, no fresh juice, stale bread, you name it...
4- the shuttle boat was out of service, shuttle bus didnt run according to schedule
5- rate didnt match all the nuisance we had to face, in short, the new management has remarkabely lost the hotel's reputation as a quite, peaceful, luxurious resort

Dear Mr./s. Fawfaw,

Thank you very much for having stayed again at the Maritim Jolie Ville Kings Island Luxor for your Luxor winter holiday 2010.
I am very sorry to that we were unable to meet your expectation this year as the hotel presently undergoes extensive renovation and extension works.

As mentioned earlier, all our business partners (Tour Operators & Travel Agencies) are informed about the works and possible noise disturbances ever since Jan 2010; hence you should have been informed about such well in advance.

It should not be that our staff (or was it the workers on site?) talk loudly and argue in front of our esteemed clients and I thank you for this message. I will follow it up.

According to many clients the food quality has improved especially since our new Executive Chef Tom is on site. But then again, it is a question of taste and everybody has a different one. The food variety on the BF buffet has not really changed, with the exception that we are not putting imported smoked salmon on the buffet anymore. It can although be ordered with our service team but must be paid extra. There is every day fresh Orange juice, Karkade & Lemon juice, apple & guava juice is from the package. The entire bread, viennoisery and cake selection is baked fresh every morning and we get many compliments for it, I am sorry we could not meet your taste.

The shuttle boat is OOO since several months and we are searching for a new suitable boat to be taken in service hopefully soon. The bus schedule run’s daily according to schedule implemented over 1,5 years ago.

The management is very positive that once all the construction and renovation works are completed, Kings Island will be one of the most outstanding resorts in entire Egypt. It is understandable although that some regular clients who are visiting the island since 25 years and more, are not all very open to changes and would like that everything remains as is. 95% of the clients although are usually positively surprised once all in finished and ready.

I hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you again one fine day in the not so far future (after finishing the renovation works) at the Maritim Jolie Ville on Kings Island Luxor to proudly show you around our brand new Resort and to convince you that it was worse while to do all these changes.

With sunny greetings from unique Luxor I remain
With best regards

I stayed at the Jolie Ville from 18th Oct - 1st Nov and whilst there viewed some comments on Trip A that were really negative. I accept that some were valid due to the opening of the new reception 3 days prior to our stay. The new path from reception to bungalows was built while we were there and new signs put up to advise people where their bungalow was. It was our 2nd stay and knew our way round. The adult pool was closed for 1 of our weeks and we used infinity pool which is outstanding. On returning to the adult pool (half term week) we realised that building work was going on in Block A and the old reception - this was noisy at times but did not detract from our enjoyment. I recommend guests take the 3 meal option - it works out very cheap, however we would not have known about this had someone not told us - small sign on reception desk so you would miss it if you did not make a point of going in the reception building. It would be beneficial to guests if there was a brochure in each room explaining the various meal options and what to do rather than finding out word of mouth. La Fleur restaurant is excellent, we ate there often and if you choose the Chefs recommendation at E165 (£19) it is cheaper than the Sobek Hall buffet at E175 and far superior. We had lobster, steak, lamb and fabulous desserts in La Fleur. I honestly feel that once the Jolie Ville is completed it will be a brilliant palce to stay - hope the price does not go up!! The management and staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The people who claimed (I am not saying I do not believe them) in Oct about their beds being dirty were obviosly very unlucky - I read this whilst I was there and immediately went to my room to examine beds - nothing wrong. I asked several others and they too found nothing. Wifi not working while we were there but managed with our blackberry. We had a fab time 40 degrees on some days, idyllic setting, good food, lovely staff - waht more can I say.
