Flew with Thompson, but if you have teenagers this may help.... Gem, (in the Hotel grounds) will provide a private, clean luxury vehicle, including guide for roughly half the Thompson tour price guide. In addition the Thompson half price child rate stops at 11. Show a student card when buying tour tickets at site locations(I used my daughter's passport) and you get 50% of the standard entry price ticket. Being offered 100 million camels, 3 temples and one obelix may have helped, but my daughter loved her private escorted tour of the Valley of Kings, Queen Hatshepsut's Temple and Memnon.
Go local and enjoy the culture. If the frequent attention for 'teeps' troubles, then use the hotel bus or private taxi, but do try everything on offer, your kids may just want to go back, like mine does.

We stayed at this hotel after our Nile cruise. Hotel itself is great and would rate it the 4 star on the condition. However trying to get the receiption staff to help is another matter. Food is very expensive at the hotel. The Agra Indian restuarant is okay but very expensive. Better to eat at Maxim grill restuarant which is round the corner or even better at the Lantern which is a 10 min walk. The hotel fails in the tennis court. They were terrible and the so called "tennis coach" was not interested in helping. To make matters worse they charge £5 per hr for using the court and £7.50 to use the snooker table. No wonder not a lot of people were not drinking in the bar!!!

We stayed here for 4 nights early December. The resort is probably a 40 minute walk from central Luxor (Luxor Temle, souk, museum) but a free hotel shuttle bus operates or taxis are dirt cheap.. There are also more shops a 10 minute walk away around the Steigenberger Hotel.
The resort is located right on the Nile with fabulous views. We had a suite with a huge terrace overlooking the river. The resort has a small collection of tourist shops and a terrific Italian restaurant. Across from the front entrance is an outlet for Viking Air (Hot Air Ballooning) and Car Hire (with a driver).
Plenty of choice within the hotel for dining and the food was great. While we were staying there the Princess of Belgium was also a guest so that probably says something as well. Would very happily go back for another stay.

the sheraton luxor is a wonderfull hotel in a great location with good views of the nile valley and the valley of the kings the room we stayed in was comfortable, clean and very well maintained, the staff we encountered where all freindly and very help full and the senior management where always approachable, this was our second stay and the only only 3 downsides where that the happy hour in the afternoon was no longer on offer the food pricing in the italian and indian restaurants was more expensive but saying that,,the food was great in them and the service was exemplary,so no complaints there, and the singer / entertainment in the bar inthe evening was not too good, yes she tried and performed with a passion but it could do with a more varied night time entertainment program, but we shall deffinately go again its a home from home.and its so relaxing.

We stayed in Sheraton Luxor Hotel for 2 nights and it was really momorable and unforgetable experience. We arrived early in the morning, and checked in without any problems and extra charges, which was a very pleasant surprise for me. I am not argee with some of the previous reviews concerning tired hotel syndrome. Hotel's staff was very polite and helpful, especially in the restaurant where we had breakfast. I remember F&B manager came to our table and asked is everything was fine. I was very pleased with her concern and care. I am sorry I do not remember her name, but she was really very helpful and gave us a valuable advice not to go to Hurgada by bus. So we took a taxi and it was much more comfortable. Thank you all.

The hotel was fabulous. We stayed in one of the garden bungalows and it was lovely and quiet. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and hotel, pool and grounds were always spotlessly clean. Having breakfast on the outside patio overlooking the Nile was delightful. Even more wonderful was having afternoon cocktails watching the most amazing sunsets over the West Bank, the colours will take your breath away. There are two pools and plenty of sun-loungers. I far preferred the pool by the bungalows to the main pool by the Nile. You have to be prepared when you leave the hotel to be assailed by the taxi and caleche drivers who wait just outside the gate offering their services. Repeated no's work and they are always friendly, even when you do not take up their offer. Haggling is not my stong point and I probably paid way too much for many of the souveniers I bought. However, there is a good shop in Luxor Airport and all your souveniers can be bought before you depart for a lot less hassle as they are all priced (unlike any other shop in Luxor where you have to guess what things are worth). The temples of Luxor and Karnak are amazing but if you visit the Valley of the Kings go early as it gets very hot. Another great trip is the day cruise to Dendera. Watching the local people in the fields along the Nile and visiting the temple in Dendera is a good way to pass a relaxing day.
