“What a surprise! Great hotel. Egypt is great value for money!”
Reviewed 15 August 2012

Imagine two tired and dusty travellers ariving at an oasis in the desert? Thyat was us! We did not expect such a high standard of comfort and service....... The fact that we got a free upgrade to a suite may have helped in this regard............, but seriously this joint is sheer class. I would reccoment Egypt as of the best value for money destinations in the world right now! Get there!!!!!!!

Room Tip: The river frontage rooms are by far the best, however as far as I could see all the rooms have great...

I have stayed at the Sonnesta, Luxor many times as generally, the service is excellent. Again, this visit was equally if not more quiet and restful, as the number of visitors was lower than in pevious years. This leads me to my only disappointment, I had booked a Club Room, (having stayed on 7th floor a couple of visits ago), but on check in was advised that due to low occupancies the upper floors were not in use. In view of this, I was allocated a Nile View room on the 3rd floor. Although this room had a beautiful view and a larger balcony, (it was also a twin room - no doubles with Nile Views - beds were converted to a double on request), but as part of the original building it was looking a bit tired and the facilities were as per a standard room appart from Sonnesta Robes in the bathroom.
Service around the pool are was excellent as usual, I wanted for nothing, drinks, extra ice,shade/sun, extra towels - Nagha and Michel you are the best!!!!!!
The restaurants were as usual very good with very good service (Eman in the breakfast room is a star; all the staff in the other restaurants are equally courteous and helpful).
I always enjoy my time at the Sonnesta as it is a quiet hotel and eat in the variety of hotel restaurants each night, however on previous visits there has been evening entertainment (films on the pontoon, singers in Nobels bar, dancers outside Aladins restaurant), this was not a problem for me, but I did talk to other visitors who decided to go out of the hotel every evening as it was just to quiet for them. Perhaps re-introducing the entertainment would encourage visitors to stay in and spend in the hotel???

We stayed in 5 hotels on our recent tour of Egypt and this was by far the best. The service offered by the staff was fantastic - far superior to anywhere else we experienced. We were also lucky enough to have eaten in their Teppanyaki restaurant. A strange option in Egypt, but Teppanyaki rarely fails to be excellent and this did not disappoint! In fact, the best and most memorable meal of our trip. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

Exactly as it is in the brochures and internet. Great hotel, quite classy with friendly staff. Pool area has waiter service, including sunbeds, towels and shade. We found it good to tip 5 egyptial pounds (50p) as you walked into the pool area and a little more every now and then. Some of the hotels restaurants were not open as numbers are very low now. There is also a swim up bar in the pool. The hotel is great, however,
be aware that most of the tourist police have now gone and going out of the hotel is just constant hassle.
That said, walk like a camel and ignore them and you should be ok. Snobs and The Lantern restaurants were near by which were great.

Room Tip: Even numbers get you on the quiter side, first numbers are the floor number, there are three lifts.

When we arrived we were not dissapointed, the hotel looked exactly as it did in the pictures from their web site. The hotel staff are very friendly, helpful and polite. The room was very nice, although the wardrobe door kept coming off its runner, which was a pain. It wasn't untill the night time when we wanted to sleep that we realised how extremley noisy our room was. We were at at the front of the hotel and i was convinced the patio doors had been left open by the cleaner however on inspection they had just been badly fitted and every sound filtered through. I couldnt face moving rooms so i just went and bought some ear plugs! We did enjoy our stay and if we ever went back to Luxor i would consider staying here again!

Room Tip: The rooms at the front facing the road are extremley nosiy!

We stayed here on a tour in Egypt. We were a little nervous overall, especially when you here 4 or 5 star does not mean the same level of quality as in other parts of the world.

However, when we go to this hotel, we were relieved that it met our expectations. The room was beautiful (make sure you ask for a Nile view), the room was nice and cool and the staff was among the friendliest and helpful that I have ever met. Our fridge in our room had broken down, and they had it replaced within the hour.

The pool is worth a visit as is the restaurants within the hotel. There are many to choose from.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone in Luxor who are looking for a well priced, friendly, clean hotel with scenic views.

Room Tip: Ask for a Nile view. Its worth it!
