“The perfect holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2012

From the moment we stepped aboard 'Royal Viking', our bags already en route to our cabin, we were in a different world. Lovely surroundings, attentive and friendly staff, and a tour guide in a million in Hussein, who would not have been out of place teaching Egyptology at university. The food and entertainment was ample and varied, and we met some really nice people. Loved the Djelabi party and thouroughly enjoyed bein Lawrence of Arabia for an evening!

We had been prepared for the vendors by Mark, and ever present source of help and information at Discover Egypt; nevertherless, the first excursion, by horse and 'carriage to Edfu temple, was a bit scary with the vendors being much higher profile than expected. Still, this was 'discover Egypt' and we learned the art of vendor avoidance, and from then they were no problem.

The cruise was amazing, although something of an endurance test if you did all the excursions, which we did not. One NOT to miss was the sound and light show at Karnak temple, wih a subsequent vist unter Hussein's expert guidance, the 2 togetner giving an incredible and lasting impression of the temple's past.

Other highlights for me personally were a tour round the ship and another around the old paddle steamer Sudan' which was moored by us, and where a tour was swiftly set up by our incredible reception desk staff.

Moving onto the Nile Palace and talk about visiting royalty! We lived in the lap of luxury, waited on hand and foot by the most friendly and painstaking staff, for whom nothing was too much trouble. For example, one night in the Nubian restaurant, my wife expressed a longing for sonething English rather than the set menu, A few minutes later - fillet steak and freshly cooked chips! How good can it get...

It's so hard to single out individuals, everyone was an absolute star, but I must mention Captain Ash (Ashram) on the hotel feluccas, who not only allowed me to take the helm for a while, but, after mooring up,insisted on entertaining us to tea and conversationas it had been his final trip for the day.

Overall verdict .. well, the title says it all. Would we come back? As we learned to say ..'Yes, insh'Allah'

Room Tip: Leave it to the company .. on the ship, our room, 310, was cooler than those on the higher deck and...

May we thank you for your extensive feedback regarding your first week Royal Viking cruise and second week with us at Steigenberger Nile Palace…
From the very start it sounds like you had a fabulous time and all the services in the hotel met your expectations!
It was nice to know that our main restaurant offered you personal alternatives. As mentioned previously on Trip Advisor, you only have to make the request and whatever you require will be there for you in an instance!!
We are very happy that we gave you a ‘perfect holiday’ and we hope that you will definitely return for another one in the future. It would be nice for you to become one of our many regular and loyal guests. Thank you for your comment about our hotel staff including our hotel felucca captain, these comments will be conveyed to them and I am sure that they will be very much appreciated!
Meanwhile we look forward to seeing you again so that we can treat you like royalty in our beautiful hotel!

Best regards

We recently did a two week tour of Egypt, and the Steigenberger in Luxor was hands down the best hotel we stayed in and the best breakfast.

The hotel is of western 4/5 star standard and perfectly clean. The toilets in the common areas had white hand towels and plenty of towel paper (this is rarer than you'd think in Egypt!). We were in a 'Standard Room' with views over the internal courtyard and restaurants. The double bed must have been a King as it was so large that I couldn't reach my boyfriend on the other side! All room fittings were first class and it was wonderful have access to satellite TV and western news channels. There is WiFi for 25 Egyptian pounds, which seems to be standard across the hotels.

The breakfast was top quality which a great variety. The food was fresh and a chef will make omelettes to your liking. This was one of the few restaurants which I was comfortable eating at without worrying about being sick later in the day!

The hotel overlooks the Nile to the west and Luxor town to the east. Luxor Temple is an easy walk from the hotel but you will need to catch a taxi to visit Karnak.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Nile!

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you and your boyfriend enjoyed your stay with us and thought that our Nile Palace was an absolute gem!!
It appears that you found the breakfast to be of excellent quality and choice and also the cleanliness of the hotel to be very good. Your feedback is very important to us; it enables us to improve if we feel that there are any areas of weakness.
We hope that you enjoyed your two week tour and we hope that you will return to us to discover more treasures that Luxor has to offer.
Best regards

We booked this hotel based on reviews we saw on trip advisor and having stayed at the Steigenberger for 2 weeks I can say with no uncertainty that we will definitely be going back as soon as we can. The hotel itself is lovely, clean and tidy and has excellent facilities. There are 5 restaurants, the quality of the food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. Even with the main restaurant if we asked to change around things from the set menu there was no problem with it the staff just accomodated any requests with a smile.
The rooms are lovely, very bright and clean and when we arrived there was a lovely little touch with the towels having been arranged in the shape of a heart on the bed and pink flower petals had been scattered around them (we were on our honeymoon btw). The room was thoroughly cleaned every day and then in the evening the housekeeping staff came round to see if anything was needed ie extra towels etc.
The very best thing about this hotel though is the staff. They seem to smile all day long and nothing is too much trouble. The customer service was second to none, every time we saw any of the staff they had a smile for us, asked how we were and wished us a good day and nothing was too much trouble. Every day we had a call from the hotel asking if we were having a good holiday and whether there was anything we needed.
The entertainment was really enjoyable with dancers performing in the courtyard every evening.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Staff were helpful & professional; Personally I do not like the road or inner balcony views: but then I go to Luxor to sit on my balcony to relax watching the Nile and views over the Valleys (Kings & Queens). Does cost more for this view.
Found the food and drink just too expensive for my budget.
Found hotel very luxurious with clean rooms, good service from staff & Management.
Internet expensive but net cafes around Luxor.
Good evening entertainment on some nights.
Just lovely hotel; if you can afford it.
I on B & B with fantastic choice of buffet breakfast; the outdoor eating area is overlooking banks of the Nile: fab.

Room Tip: If you want to watch the hustle & bustle (not as obvious now of course, since Revolution) then a...

It was very good for us to receive such a kind review. It was a pleasure for us to know that all our staff were as helpful and courteous as usual.
It is always worth upgrading to a Nile view room as the memorable views of the Nile and the West bank (valleys of the kings and queens) remain in your hearts forever and often this is the reason why most of our first time guests return time and time again!
Thank you for your comments about the quality of the breakfast buffet and the outside dining options that we offer.
Truly, we do hope that you will stay with us again and become one of our many regular and loyal guests…

My Partner and I have just returned from a two week holiday to Luxor, we did the Nile Cruise with Discover Egypt on board the Royal Viking and had a great experience, however a few negative points I must mention, Discover Egypt advertise this as a 7 day cruise but is not, we arrived on Board on the Wednesday evening and the Vessel left the port, and headed for Edfu, where we went onto visit Edfu temple via Horse and carriage , this was not very pleasant as you were constantly harrased by traders in your face when we arrived thrusting item in your face wanting you to but something not to mention begging children.

We the sailed to Aswan where we stayed overnight where you could go on another trip but decided against it due to the constant hassle.

Saturday we then sailed back to Edfu for an overnight stay and then Sunday sailed back to Luxor when we stayed until leaving on the Wednesday.

I must add at this point that the service on board was fantastic, its only a pity we could not have enjoyed it as we were supposed to, sailing on the river nile, my advise to anyone booking a nile cruise is double check the Itinerary so you don't get caught like we did.

We then moved on to the Steigenberger Nile Palace where we were treated like Royalty from the moment you walked in until you leave.

If you are planning a trip to Luxor this is the hotel to stay, the staff could not to enough for you
always said good morning and the food was excellent, we had our breakfast in our room every morning for an additional cost of E£20.00 (£2.00) extra and it was brought to you on a table with a linen table cloth and napkins.

Make sure you book a Nile View Room, we were in room 118 and the view over the Nile was breath taking, especially at night.

The only thiing is as soon as you walk out the door you get hassled by taxi drivers, beggers, and carraige guys who don,t seem to understand the meaning of NO THANK YOU.

if you are looking to eat out head for Deans Bistro which is just across the road and down past the Tesco store he make a mean fillet steak and he is English.

IF you but anything in the Tesco Store beware of they cigarettes, the were selling superkings for E£180.00 and soon found out they were fake.

All in all a good holiday and would recommend.

We are sorry that you were not entirely satisfied with your first week on the cruise. However, it seems that our hotel Steigenberger Nile Palace compensated for this!!
We are very happy to know that you enjoyed your stay and it is our pleasure to treat our guests like royalty just as they deserve.
Also, it was nice to know that you liked your room with the full Nile panoramic views!
We invite you to return for another wonderful stay with us and we hope that you enjoyed your royal diamond jubilee celebrations in the UK this week…

We stayed at this hotel for only four nights from the 23rd of May 2012, and wished that we could have picked it up and moved it to Cairo with us where we moved on to! We booked a Nile view room which we thought was lovely from the moment we walked in it. As a bonus, we had a very large balcony complete with furniture, and a beautiful view of the hotel swimming pool, grounds, and of course the Nile. The room as with the rest of the hotel was absolutely spotless, and cleanliness/tidiness of the rooms was maintained twice a day by the domestic staff. The general atmosphere was relaxed and very pleasant. Food and service was of a high standard in the restaurants, whilst staff were friendly, polite and courteous, and there was a vast choice of food at the buffet breakfast. Management were friendly, visible, made themselves known to you, and best of all available. They regularly checked that their guests were happy and would tale the time to give you their attention. We did have one cause to complain to a manager, but the complaint was taken on board and dealt with promptly which is why i would not feel happy at disclosing what the problem was, as i would not want this to detract from our overall experience of the hotel. In our opinion the hotel truly deserves to be called a palace, and we would not hesitate to stay there again nor recommend it to others.
One point to note however, is the annoying behaviour of some of the taxi/carriage drivers outside the hotel who approach you as soon as you set foot out of the door and who can't seem to take no for an answer. This i am afraid is not confined to just this hotel, it was wide spread every where we went, including Cairo.

Room Tip: A must to choose a Nile view room.
