“Not a 5-star. Pool is nice but otherwise it's all a bit sad, and they nickel-and-dime you on everything they can.”
Reviewed 31 December 2013

This hotel has clearly seen better days. Maybe it was a 5-star once, but it sure isn't now. Some of the amenities (tennis court, gym, etc) they advertise were not available when we stayed there in late December 2013, and there were so few guests because of Egypt's current political problems that the restaurants were deserted. You would think that this would make them grateful for those guests who did come, but not at all! Reception staff were grumpy and clearly didn't appreciate the disruption to their lives wrought by the arrival of a client looking to check in, not even a suggestion of an upgrade even though occupancy was about 10 percent.

The room was ok, with a good, firm king-size bed and a decent shower too. They've obviously cut back on their TV cable bill because there were about six stations available, and no good sports or movies ones -- we had to go to one of the pubs across the road (Murphy's or The King's Head) to watch a match). The minibar fridge was empty but functioned as a fridge, but they still had a notice for guests instructing them to refrain from bringing in food and beverages from outside "for your safety"!

Best of all was that the tea or coffee making facilities had been replaced by a notice to guests saying that these facilities could be provided...for an extra fee!

The wi-fi provision was that infuriating scam -- notionally available for free in the lobby and for an exorbitant fee in the room.

(We didn't care because if you have a spare, unlocked smartphone you can just buy a sim from Vodafone, Etisalat or Mobilnil, add 10Gb of mobile data for maybe 120 LE (€12) and switch on the phone's 'mobile hotspot'.)

The breakfast is at best a 5/10. No pork sausages or rashers, of course (no live-and-let-live here in Egypt -- they're as bad as the Israelis, where you have no chance of a rasher either!), and bizzarely, instead of the freshly-squeezed orange juice that you can get for 4 LE on every corner, they have some watered-down, sweetened kiddie-juice.

But the best thing about the place by a mile is the pool. It is heated to 28 degrees, right on the Nile, with lovely, attentive staff and a good coffee machine and bar. You could happily spend a couple of days just lounging around that pool, listening to the melodious muezin on both sides of the river calling people to prayer...

The area isn't bad. You are always mobbed by taxi and caleche drivers on leaving the hotel, but if you just cross the road and go up what look at first like dark side-streets you'll see there are lots of half-decent restaurants and shops around. The Aboudy bookshop is a must-see, and it is less than 100 metres from the front door, next door to Murphy's pub. Up the parallel street, the one with the fake 'Tesco' at the bottom, is a great laundry service (maybe 150 metres up on the right, ironing board visible from the street).

A very nice location, though we were moved from a Nile view to a courtyard view because they did not reserve a 3 person room as requested. It is very slow so it looks like they had all of the guests on 2 floors. Rooms were clean and comfortable, and staff was very friendly. The breakfast was definitely an AAA and included in our stay. It is right on the Nile and you can take boat rides from the hotel, so you can avoid the hassle of negotiating for one on the corniche. There are a few good restaurants close by you will want to visit, as you will be overcharged for what you get at the restaurants, especially if you order a glass of wine. A great place, but expect to eat out for quality meals and pay for all services.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Nile, and buy an internet stick at Etsiliat or Vodafone, as they overcharge fo...

A nice hotel on the east bank of the Nile with a great view and really nice location, just in between the old town of Luxor and Luxor temple; room quality isn't really 5 stars, clean but small and not well equipped, especially the bathroom; hotel's location provides an excellent sleeping quality with full isolation from the exterior sounds, but on the other hand it takes 20 mins walk to Luxor temple, where all the fun starts; food is superior in the term of quality but with very low diversity -not an open buffet-, for example on dinner you can only choose 4 options from a set menu, you can choose either fish or chicken in the Italian restaurant that come with the same sauce and there is no real difference in between them but the texture; mix grill or grilled chicken in the Lebanese restaurant that taste the same too; which is really disappointing; service isn't bad but will definitely get you bored; room service is as excellent as waiters in the Nubian restaurant, waiters in the Lebanese restaurant are just OK, and waiters in the Italian restaurant are the worst on earth, rude, slow and boring; swimming pool is very small;there is no spa, no customized activities for children, and no animation show; the hotel overall gives good value for money; not my favorite 5 stars hotel but still not the worst; but still they have to move to save the excellence of Steigneberger.

Stayed at the Nile Palace in early November for 2 nights. The hotel is very nice and very happy with our staying there. We wanted a room with a Nile view and were not disappointed. We arrived in our room with the sun setting behind the Nile. Couldn't ask for a nicer setting. The Nile Palace was very quiet to our liking especially after a couple of noisy nights in Giza. It had a lot of amenities but we did not use them besides dinner on our first night. Unfortunately, our dining experience was not pleasant as my friend got sick afterwards after eating at the Italian restaurant. Would have given 5 stars rating otherwise. Breakfast was fine and satisfied our needs. Staff was courteous and helpful during our stay. Wi-fi is available but for a fee.

Thank you for taking time to place your review here on Trip Advisor; it was a pleasure to host you in our wonderful hotel back in November.
We noticed the comments regarding your dining experience in our Italian restaurant. As a reputable five stars hotel that holds an outstanding track record concerning our food and beverage outlets, we maintain extremely high food safety standards to ensure the good health of our guests. As you will also appreciate there are many reasons in Egypt that account for travellers becoming sick.
Had we been made aware of your friends sickness immediately or
prior to departure we would have had the opportunity to investigate this further with you both.
May we also kindly mention that we do actually have free Wi-Fi in our Nile lounge bar area of the hotel which is available to all our in house guests.
We hope that you will return to us at Nile Palace and experience more beautiful sunsets and views which our hotel is so proud to have.
Kind regards
Alison

This is a dated review, but since there has likely been little tourism, it is probably still helpful.

We stayed at this hotel via a package booked through Your Egypt Tours. In Cairo, they booked us in an amazing 5-star hotel, so we were slightly spoiled. This hotel was fine, just not the luxury we had become accustomed to! We only stayed here one night.

First of all, we arrived in Luxor via the overnight train. This was a horrible experience and I do not recommend it to anyone. We were supposed to depart on the train as well but, splurged and bought flights back to Cairo. Due to lack of sleep on the train, we struggled to enjoy Luxor through our blurry eyes.

The hotel seemed relatively safe, as did the entire town of Luxor, in comparison to Cairo, despite no formal security, a very open air setting, and a location right on the main street. The hotel is right on the Nile, which was nice for a quiet late-night cocktail. After one of our tours, we took a cute boat ride back to our hotel, instead of the bridge. There was a gorgeous pool and lots of space to lay out and enjoy the Egyptian sun, along with the nice hotel bar. Despite that Luxor is more conservative than Cairo, hotels are free space and tourists in swimsuits are acceptable. Hotel staff were not as quick and fluent in English here, but still able to understand it. I did not get an overly welcoming feeling, unless our tour guide was assisting us, though staff were still accommodating. We ate at a restaurant in the hotel complex, which was good albeit slow, and watched a belly dancing show over dinner.

The rooms were rather dark, stuffy, and a little bit dingy. There was notable grime on the walls in all the crevices and on light switches. The bathroom was fairly clean, but without wash cloths, the shower handle was falling apart, and the shower somehow would shoot hot and cold water at the same time (blending issue). Beds were fairly comfortable and we had a nice patio that overlooked the hotel’s interior grounds and beautiful flowering plants.

Overall, I would suggest researching other hotels for a more comfortable stay, but if you are on a budget or get placed here by a tour company, do not stress at it is a descent place to crash.

Room Tip: Request one in tower near Nile and a view.
