Stayed for one night at end of Nile Cruise. Hotel was really nice, good choice of restaurants and rooms. Service was very good. Easy walk into heart of Luxor, just watch out for the heat. Pool looks out over Nile, lovely view. Some very good deals available for rooms too.

Just returned from the Nile Palace and after reading some mixed reviews was pleasantly suprised, good hotel great location although I do agree pool water too cold. Do try Magic Horizons balloon flights they were excellent also a fellucca ride at sunset is a must. Good selection at breakfast and by the pool for lunch yes drinks are expensive but you always pay for that in any good hotel. Thai resturant in hotel fabulous wish we could have afforded to eat there more. bit disappointed in the Lebanese. You must go to Puddleduck resturant owned by an english couple recently opened, great food great service if you go past Arkwrigt supermarket and take first right its just round the corner, less than 5 mins from the hotel. also try Lanterns, and snobs. Try local travel agents for trips there are some good ones and always remember to barter for anything and everything.

Nice and well located hotel. Easy walking to restaurants and sights or easy to get transportation ( a little too easy...just walk out and you will hawked at every turn as to where you want to go).

Rooms are clean and food at breakfast is quite good. Try not to get a room that faces the courtyard if you are concerned about noise. They provide evening entertainment that will find it's way to your room.

Pools were too cold to use but looked pretty.

Oh yeah, and eat at the Lantern............best food around.

We stayed at this hotel three years ago and loved it and it has improved further. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and with a Nile View the all over experience is very good.

The food seemed to be better than before especially in the Lebanese restaurant where it was delicious. We felt the Italian restaurant perhaps lacked the real Italian flavours.

We would not hesitate to recommend it this hotel.

We have stayed in Egypt a few times, so realise that the star rating for hotels there are not comparable to British hotels, so were not expecting anything too flash. What we found was a massive hotel in a really good location with some good bits, but equally some bad.

The location of the hotel was really good, within easy walking distance of temples and restaurants but a bit further away from too much immediate hassle.

We arrived on New Years Eve and had an unexpected gala dinner (the website we booked through didn't tell us this was included in the price and we found out 2 days before we flew out) - the buffet dinner was amazing, including ice and chocolate sculptures.

We changed rooms during our stay as I complained to guest relations that our room was not clean when we arrived and hadn't been hoovered during the first 4 days of our stay. I just wanted our room to be properly cleaned but they moved us instead to a larger room, where the carpet had obviously been shampooed. This was a much larger room which overlooked the pretty courtyard - very noisy until 10pm due to the entertainment but it didn't affect us.

In my opinion, the cleanliness of the hotel was the main let down. The room was not clean and generally needed updating - carpets were stained, bathroom fixtures were rusting and woodwork battered. Other areas of the hotel didn't appear to be regularly cleaned such as the pool side and the roof top terrace - tissues and cigarrette ends were there for over 3 days.

Other areas that could be improved are the pool area - loungers are crammed in so you are sat on top of each other. There is a big sign saying that loungers cannot be reserved but this happened all the time with loungers being reserved early in the morning and people not using them until 2pm in the afternoon when they returned from a trip. Try the roof top terrace near the gym, this is a lot quieter and spacious but there is no where to swim.

Reception staff were mainly terrible. For the first time in all my travelling I encountered male staff who were unhelpful and dismissive of me as a female but who couldn't be more helpful to my husband when he went to reception after I had no luck. with a query

There were some very friendly staff elsewhere but this was patchy and service was very slow.

We didn't eat at the hotel apart from the breakfast as we were told by other residents that the food wasn't great and was expensive compared to what was available elsewhere. We did have breakfast included and this was ok but the service was very slow and tables were not cleaned after being used. At some times there were not enough tables available and a queue formed to get in, and we were asked to sit at tables with other residents.

In all the guide books it says that Luxor isn't renowned for its food but we did find some good places to eat. - they don't look that pretty but the food was good. Maxims, turn right out of the hotel and walk towards the Sheraton, we had the koftas and they were lovely. Jewel in the Nile, run by an English lady and her Egyptian husband, they do a set menu including birds tongue soup (not real birds tongue it's a small pasta) - this was really nice and good value for money and it was interesting to find out about life in Egypt. Finally arrange a trip to Salahadeen Restaurant at Mara House - owned by an Irish lady called Mara. If you ring her she will arrange a taxi to collect and return you to your hotel. She serves a set menu and the surroundings are lovely.

Finally, you must have a balloon flight early in the morning. It is incredible value for money in an absolutely beautiful location. We went with Magic Horizons which has an office across the road from the hotel. We paid £40 and were in the air for about 40 minutes. This is much cheaper than that offered by our tour operator and we had a brilliant time.

Overall we had a great stay in Luxor, the weather was gorgeous during the day (25c) a great start to 2009 and the hotel was ok for what we wanted but didn't live up to other hotels in egypt and the Steinberger's website.

Stayed at the Steigenberger Nile Palace Hotel (formerly Le Meridian) from 7-14 Jan 09, booked through Travel Republic.
The hotel is about 15 minutes walk from Luxor Temple and in an area were a string of hotels actually go down to the riverside. In the vicinity are a Water works and an Electricity station but there appear to be no smells, fumes or noises from any of these buildings. Felt very safe walking around the area at any time, although you do have to get used to being asked if you want a taxi or to go in a shop etc.
Took the advice of previous guests and booked a full Nile view room. It was certainly more expensive than the patio view or side Nile view rooms but the views across the Nile to some of the historical sites were great, although the days were short and the sun had actually set before getting onto our balcony. The days were very pleasantly warm but the night temperature was coolish, about 10 C, and so we didnt stay too long on the balcony in the evenings. However it was nice to wake up and see upto 15 hot air balloons in the skies on the other side of the Nile.
The Hotel is in a very good condition and had a new feel to it. The staff were very attentive and calls to reception about anything were quickly responded to.
We stayed b&b and thought the range of food at breakfast was first class. Did not have any other meals in the hotel.
Ate at Casablanca (specialising in Sea Food &-Egyptian, located opposite Snobs, about 200 metres from hotel) for 4 dinners and can thoroughly recommend the food and the service. Also ate at Smileys (very good) and The Lantern (quite English and hence very popular, often booking is necessary).
For provisions, eg cans and bottles of water/coca cola etc I highly recommend Arkwrights were everything is priced and very reasonable against the Egyptian stores, eg cans are 2EGP in Arkwrights compared to a starting price of 5EGP elsewhere. Arkwrights also do sandwiches and packed lunches etc and the staff are very helpful. Obviously the hotel discourage any food/drink being brought in so I guess you would have to be discreet if you wanted to bring it in to the hotel, although I did not see anyone challenged or searched.
Overall thought the hotel was of a very high standard and I would certainly consider going back and recommending it to anyone.
Just watch the charges if you want to check out after midday. I was charged $20 for checking out at 2pm, 2 hours after normal check out. Please note my credit card was not accepted by the hotel because my card was Chip & Pin !!!! In fact my credit card had a full weeks holiday as cash is king in Luxor and I used my Nationwide debit card at the ATM at the Barclays Bank across the road to the hotel to withdraw EGP on a regular basis.

We stayed at the Steigenberger with our 2 children, in interconnecting rooms. We arrived very early (took the Abela sleeper train from Cairo) at 7 am and they gave us our room straight away. The place is real find. Luxor is fantastic, quiet after a crazy Cairo. We had absolutely no trouble with noise, and we were overlooking the internal courtyard, but we were on the other side away from the construction. The breakfast was fine, nothing special but had all you would need. We spent one afternoon by the pool and it was great. Food not amazing by the pool, but definitely ok. We ate dinner in the Lebanese restaurant in the courtyard which was great food. No complaints, a great find this hotel is. With its position on the banks of the river, what more could you ask for? Be sure to watch the sun set by the pool, fantastic.
