“good for the price, perfect location, not luxury”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2010

I liked this hotel for the location and amenities. It is not a luxury hotel, but a comfortable one. The location couldn't be better, right in the heart of Luxor. Walking distance to the Temple of Luxor and a cabs abound to take you anywhere else. Our room looked like it was stuck in the 1970s, but it was very clean and the TV, shower, and toilet all worked. It even had a small balcony. The best part of this hotel was the rooftop pool! You can relax on comfortable loungers and get a spectacular view of the Temple and the surrounding mountains. Women can swim comfortable in a bikini (something I didn't find many budget places in egypt) and there are snack and drinks at good prices delivered poolside. The astroturf and yellow umbrellas add some nice character, too.
If you're going to Luxor for the sights (not to sit around a plush hotel) this is a great place to stay at the end of your day.

My partner and I stayed here a few weeks ago and it was just what we needed in a mid range hotel; convenient location, helpful staff and a nice rooftop pool to cool off. I would definitely stay there again.

Although we spent two nights at this hotel, the amount of time we spent in the hotel itself was minimal, due to a hectic sightseeing programme. We were part of a large tour group, with rooms allocated on arrival. Some members of the group reported large, comfortable rooms; we were not so lucky. However, our room was adequate for the time we spent there, and other than a continually running toilet, there were no problems.

At the front of the hotel, on a busy road, I thought we would be disturbed more by the traffic outside; but this was not an issue. In fact the location of the hotel was fantastic, sitting right at the top of the Avenue of the Sphinxes. And from the rooftop restaurant and pool we could see all the way down to Luxor Temple. It was only a five-minute walk to the ferry terminal for boats to the West Bank, making it very easy to access trips to the Valley of Kings and Queen Hatshepsut's Temple, among others. Its central location also made the hotel very convenient for trying out Luxor's restaurants (I recommend the Jamboree Restaurant) and wandering through the souk, where I was very nearly exchanged for 100 camels!

Luxor was a fantastic place, and the Emilio was not a bad hotel. They packed us up a substantial breakfast to take with us on our balloon ride. And the spaghetti I had for lunch was surprisingly good. It would have been nice to have a better room, but then we really were only sleeping there. For everything else, it was very convenient.

We stayed three night here on our tour and this was a great mid-trip break hotel for our trip. The number one reason? The outdoor rooftop pool! This is a great luxury in a mid-range hotel and was a daily refreshing treat.

The hotel itself is really nothing special - your standard mid-priced Egyptian hotel. There were the typical problems that followed us around the country. Some of our tourmates complained of bad smells in the room, our A/C broke the last night, etc. I would also like to mention that this hotel (and part of the city) suffered from blackouts almost daily at random times during the day. I would caution against using the elevator and chancing getting stuck in it.

Our rooms were nice - two beds, desk and bathroom. The mini-fridge was good for keeping water cool in the hot Luxor heat. Bedding was standard with a comforter, pillow and firm mattress. Soap was offered in the bathroom but not much else. There is no internet or wifi in the room, but you can use the computers downstairs for 20EP an hour. I'd recommend going to the hotel next door (same building) and using theirs for 10EP an hour..

The rooftop, in addition to the pool, offers great views and comfortable seating to enjoy either in the shade or sun. There is also a restaurant on top of the hotel with a decent menu (and good pizza!). Prices are a bit more expensive then you'd find on the street. They also serve alcohol. Breakfast was included in our rate and served either on the roof or downstairs. It was actually pretty decent and included omelettes and a toaster.

The Emilio is in a great location in Luxor. You are within walking distance to Luxor Temple, and only two blocks away from the beginning of the Luxor street market where you can hone your haggling skills. The Karnac temple is about 3.5 km away and can be reached either on foot, taxi or the horse/carriage for a small fee. There is also a large number of places to eat within 10 minutes walking, including McDonald's.

Overall, I thought this was a great place to spend three days. The pool is such a refreshing welcome during the middle of the day and we had no extreme problems here that weren't experienced elsewhere on the trip. I'd stay here again.

The pplan was, to visit this Hotel for nights and one day. I just could stay one night and on day... why?
I slept the first night a lone. I told them, that my egyptian husband will come at the second night. He came, but they didn´t let him in. They didnt accept the paper. The wanted also an expansive one from the embasy. So we left the hotel, but we also had to pay the second night. Why they didnt say at the beginning, that they dont accept this paper? I never would check in, if they say it before!!!

The room was clean and had a nice view. Some things in the kitchen were broken. Even i couldn´t close the air-condition. So it was really cold!

The location of this hotel is fantastic - right in the middle of Luxor, the roof top terrace overlooks Luxor Temple and the Nile. The hotel itself however is very disappointing. When we arrived the reception staff were appaulingly slow at arranging our room and seemed very disinterested in us - we couldn't work out if they'd lost our reservation or were just being really inefficient. The room we had didn't have any windows and on the first night the air conditioning system didn't work - making for a very stuff night after a day of temperatures nudging 40C. The breakfast was pretty basic - although perhaps just about sufficient. The eating area on the roof top terrace was pretty dirty as were the toilets (strewn with blood covered tissues at one point!).
There are a few pluses - the roof top terrace is pleasant enough with great views and the pool is a welcome relief from the Luxor heat. The staff on the terrace as well as the chamber maids where also very friendly - perhaps their colleagues on the reception desk could take some advice from them!
I wouldn't stay here again or recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Luxor - we ate at the nearby Nefertiti Hotel on a couple of occasions and this place looked like a much more attractive option.
