Excellent value hotel where the staff go well out of their way to make you feel welcome. Lovely room, excellent air con and satellite tv. Pool area is great and pool is heated in winter. However they turned the heated water off when it reached 102 degrees. Fine, but you felt the cold water again when it dropped down to 95 which it did for a few days! Wi fi throughout the hotel but as in most of Egypt it tends to play up and goes off all too regularly. Food at the restaurant is excellent and provided us with 15 gourmet evening meals at a bargain prices as half board customers. Down side is the lack of tourists in Luxor, which meant being constantly hassled when we left the hotel. Hotel didn’t have many guests so we were well looked after. Hotel bar didn’t open as often as we liked often due to us being the only customers who were up for happy hour! Will definitely stay here if in Luxor again. Even gave us a superb breakfast box when we were leaving at 4.30am. This is a 3* hotel that thinks it should offer 5* service. No wonder it won a 2012 trip advisor award.

Room Tip: Nearer the top and not at the front will get you a quieter room

Myself and a friend have just spent a week at this hotel. We found nothing to complain about, every area is always spotless, clean bedding and towels every day. Our room was at the front of the hotel (room 402), it can be a bit noisy but once you close the window its not too bad. The staff are always friendly without bieng in your face and always have a smile for you. The best bit for me was the roof. The pool is big enough to have a good swim and the cheeseburgers are to die for!!!!! As there is a bit of unrest in Egypt at the momment the hotel was very quiet so most afternoons we had the roof to ourselves. Beware of the calesh drivers at the front, they hassle you big time and can be very persistant. ALWAYS agree a price first and dont let them wait for you because they will try to charge you extorbitant prices. If you want a no nonsence, clean friendly hotel then I would definately recomend St Josephs.

Room Tip: All rooms come with a Nile view.

This hotel is a little tired, but more than adequate as a base in a good position. If you want 5 star glitz and a big size hotel with gardens, then it is not for you.

Our room had a balcony with a Nile view, two comfy beds, a large fridge, a modern air con/heater ( needed in the winter evenings when the temperature can drop) and a t.v. with good reception and English news and film channels. My notebook got excellent connection in the bedroom from the free wifi, a definite plus for me. There was a bath with a shower over and plenty of hot hot water all the time. Our room boy kept everything clean for us and the furniture, if somewhat well used, was more than adequate.

There is a rooftop pool and a bar is providing drinks and food. There are fantastic views of the Nile and Luxor. It is ideal to watch the sun set over the West Bank. I was well impressed with the sun lounger matresses. They were thick, yet soft enough to actually be comfortable, and they have a towelling cover so you would never stick to the usual plastic. All the staff are really friendly and helpful.

I would recommend that you book only bed and breakfast as there are some good eating places close by. However, I would strongly suggest that you take advantage of the hotel dinner offer at £35 or 290 LE for six x 4 course meals. There are good choices for each course and the food is excellent. My husband had best steak several times and said it was really some of the best steak he had ever eaten. By the way, don't pay the restaurant in English, we got a local exchange rate of 9.55 LE to £1, so 290LE equalled £30.37, this meant each 4 course meal cost us £5.06 each - really good value for an enjoyable meal, and good portions.

One tip - the road outside can be noisy, take ear plugs.

We have visited Luxor many times, though this was our first stay at Saint Josephs, but we will now be part of a large group of people who keep returning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the main road and on a high floor, for the best Nile views. There is a lift.

This was easily the best place we stayed on our tour, covering basically all of Egypt. Saint Joseph had nothing I could ever really complain about, not that I ever complain about anything anyway. The rooms were well fitted out and had continual hot water (I now appreciate hot water after visiting the middle east) were quiet by Egyptian standards and overall felt like good value. Located away from the city centre has its drawbacks, but we were hassled far less which becomes exhausting in itself.
This was also the first (and last) hotel I came across where the swimming pool was open in the winter months. On the rooftop, with great views over Luxor, you could see the Temple of Hatchepsut over the Nile whilst making use of the rooftop bar/restaurant. Theres also a proper restaurant downstairs which was good value and a bar in the basement, which offered happy hour cocktails that no person can refuse, unlike my dancing.
A special thanks to the laundry service. My shirt will never be that clean again.
