“Thank goodness it was for only ONE night !”
Reviewed 17 February 2012

We stayed at the Pyramisa for one night on 1 February 2012 and were grateful that it WAS only one night.

We were allocated possibly one of the best rooms overlooking the Nile from an extended , carpeted balcony with a canopy and two sunloungers towards the end. But that was the only good thing about the stay.

The Pyramisa is a superficial hotel. You walk into the hotel and are immediately impressed by its grandeur. A lot of the areas are carpeted including the corridors leading to the rooms.
But look beyond all that and what do you find ?

Our bedroom was quite nice but the beds were rock hard and the pillows were not soft enough to overcome giving you a headache, The room was a little too small to enable us to manoeuvre our armchairs so that we could both see the TV properly and the shower was incapable of producing a decent flow of water.

The main bar in the evening was like the black hole of Calcutta.

The restaurant was not at all welcoming and badly laid out. The servatories were close together causing congestion. The quality of the food was poor and not very hot and the choice was very limited. Only warm plates were available for lunch and dinner but plates for breakfast were all cold and a request for a hot plate was ignored.

Our complaint about a sparrow flying around the dining room was met with tolerant amusement. How it had got in , goodness knows but there was no attempt to catch it and release it outside !

Thank goodness it was for only one night !

we stayed in this hotel now for several times with the family. We always recieve a good service, nice and clean rooms with good beds and a big bathroom a great view to the river Nile and the Western Side. The kitchen is great, lovely food prepared in an egyptain way, a big selection of deserts and also for breakfast you get everything you want. Of course we love the big swimming pool.
We will return in May 2012.

The hotel is very ordinary and I must say that having booked it thinking it was a 5 star, it turned out to be a big let down. The hotel looks old, rooms are old-fashioned and feel a little dingy. There wasn't enough light in the rooms. The service was ok. The breakfast spread was lavish with a lot of variety. The hotel has an open bar and swimming pool looking out into the Nile. It was well decorated for the Christmas and New Year.

Overall, it wasn't value for the money we paid. The room quality could have been much better and brought down the overall experience.

I have stayed in this excellent hotel on many occasions, with my two Daughters. We are particularly impressed with the high standard of service, that we always receive. The hotel has many outstanding features, the food is always very good, with plenty of variety, the rooms are well furnished and maintained by house-keeping to a very acceptable standard.I really cannot fault the hotel in any way, because myself and the children have always been very happy there. We will be returning to the hotel in July 2012,for a 4 week stay,we are all looking forward to this very much.I can honestly recommend the hotel, you will not be disappointed.Kind regards Muhammad Abu-Bakr

We stayed for 3 nights over New Year. We arrived on the overnight train from Cairo, and they let us have the room straight away. I think we could also have had breakfast that morning, since there are no checks at breakfast time - but we had a sleep instead. Rooms are large with big bathrooms, but several lights not working. If you want 5 star you need to pay more - but you can get good deals, and these are worth it. We thought we had just paid for 3 nights, but we had the New Year's Eve Gala dinner for free. I think the staff enjoyed it more than the guests, although some of the entertainment was worth watching - the rest was too loud!

The smaller heated pool was welcome at this time of year. The larger pool looked great, but was freezing! Pool snacks were OK. The Chinese and Italian were ok for a change, but don't get your hopes up too much!

Breakfast was a great spread, the pastries were particularly good.

For us it was a bit of luxury compared to the other hotels we were staying in. But I wouldn't want to spend more than £60 a night.

Room Tip: The Nile view rooms are definitely the best. We asked for non-smoking, but none available, but there...

We stayed here from 26 December to 2 January. I found the hotel rather faded and shabby. Our suite had frayed carpet and beds so hard it was painful! We had lovely view over Nile to the Valley of the Kings which was great. Only the smaller pool is heated and it is barely warm enough to go in. The children didn't mind but it was too cold for me! The large pool although lovely, is not heated and too cold to go in. The food was repetitive and boring - the same steamed veg, beef stew, chicken, fruit etc for lunch and dinner. There was loads of choice though so I think it's probably me being picky! Breakfast was nice - omelettes and pancakes, lots of different breads. Cocktails all tasted the same!

Nice children's play area by the river and we explored Luxor and its amazing sights. There were very few tourists so taxis, horse drawn carriages and guides etc were quite cheap. We had a felucca ride from one of the boats in front of the hotel and this was great - the children loved it. We went to Banana island and saw the bananas growing then the sun was setting as we sailed back.

Lovely holiday - I'd recommend Luxor at Xmas/New Year - the weather was very nice and warm.
