This great little café is situated right beside the Grand Memphis Hotel at the back door of the Winter Palace Hotel. It has changed greatly since we last visited in 2011 and is under new ownership. There are seats and tables, sunshades and sofas and a large screen TV which primarily shows football matches and music. The floor area has all been tiled and is clean and tidy. The glasses when they arrive are sparkling clean and the service is brilliant. The owner takes pride in the café and loves when tourists come to visit – we were treated like VIPs every time! There is also free Wi-fi with a fairly good signal.
You can order food but when it arrives it looks as if it’s come out of a ‘fast food’ café and is presented in polystyrene boxes, but boy is it tasty, piping hot and very very reasonable!! If you fancy a shisha, they are available too, and they serve beer, spirits and soft drinks, along with some lovely coffees and hot chocolate.
A typical lunch would be 4 x chicken wraps, 2 x beers, 1 x water and 1 x soft drink at a cost of approx. 200LE, so it’s all very reasonable indeed. We also used to pop in during the evening on our way back from dinner for a welcome coffee, beer or hot chocolate.
Give it a try – I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
