“.. once upon a time there was a place; a place between the green fields, the palm trees of the Nile river and where the endless sand dunes begin; where the mountains seems blue and pink in the evening sun. During the summer nights the desert breeze that moved the palm leafs would still not cool. In winter one would have a glass of Lebanese red wine sitting in one of the old wooden armchairs covered with the last Royal Egyptian Tanis Cotton from Cairo talking to the elegantly dressed British lady who worked as a reporter during the world wars and her husband who knew Egypt from his years as a pilot. A London cabaret singer playing the piano facing the black and white photographs while the previous councillor of the Queen of England arrived with her butler for dinner. A place in time, a place next to the little fountain in the Levantine courtyard that one does not recommend to others for it is too personal. If one wants to meet the archaeologists of the1920s, the truly spirit that surrounds the characters of the novels by Agatha Christie ... one accommodates himself or herself surrounded by the paintings and old photographs at “Al Mourdira.” … My place. … the only thing I miss after staying in Egypt for a decade of my life ..”

Amazing hotel with stunning décor and fantastic bedrooms. Rooms are arranged around courtyards a la Alhambra in Granada. It is in a quiet location on the West Bank so, unless you take a taxi, you'll have to eat at the hotel(no hardship).

Despite the travel warnings, I really wanted to go to Luxor for my 40th birthday. Al Moudira was perfect for the trip. It was quiet because there are few tourists right now (unfortunately for the hotel and its employees) so we had the run of the place to ourselves. The rooms are so beautiful, the hammam a real treat, and the food at the restaurant very good. My friend told them it was my birthday and Zeina, the owner, surprised me with a birthday cake. The staff was very kind and helpful, taking very good care of us, and whenever we wanted a ride into Luxor they arranged it within minutes. The hotel is also spotlessly clean.

Right now very few people are traveling to Egypt, which is an excellent reason to go. The tours are very personal and there are no crowds or lines for anything. You can have temples all to yourselves. And the weather now is fabulous. There were no causes for concern when we were there and we have a great time.

Maybe it's because many reviewers like to be in Luxor town, on the East Bank. Al Moudira is about 30 minutes drive away on the West Bank. Once you walk through the doors, however, you'll realize that the place is magical. Our room was incredible. Don't think we've ever slept under a painted, domed ceiling before, with light filtering in through colored glass. The bathroom is very stylish, the furniture very tastefully done, and the rooms huge. The staff were very friendly and nice. The shame is that hardly any tourists are coming these days. For anyone who is considering traveling to Luxor this winter, don't hesitate to do it. There is no disturbance in this part of the country, the weather is great, and the sites are peaceful and relaxing . Al Moudira should also be your hotel of choice, as it allows you to avoid the hawkers and touts on the east bank.

What a gorgeous looking hotel. In the country side and a bit further out from the action of Luxor. When I stayed in February 13 there were only a couple of other guests. So quiet and so pretty but something I could only handle for a couple of nights. Pity it is so far out as the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely and the place has such a lovely cool old Arabian Nights feel about it. Awesome swimming pool area too. Maybe if it was a busier hotel and more people it might have added a bit more to the atmosphere? Nevertheless it is a beautiful hotel with lovely gardens.

Room Tip: Central Garden view room - lovely, shady and lots of birds

Al Moudira is an incredible hotel with great food. The swimming pool is beautiful and the staff help out with everything. If you will be traveling to Luxor do yourself a favor and stay at Al Moudira. The front desk can get you a taxi guy who will pick you up each morning and stay with you while you go discovering at each area.

Room Tip: When traveling to Luxor go through Cairo. Stay at the Four Seasons (either one though I prefer 1sst...

Hidden away in it's own quiet oasis on the west bank of the river Nile opposite Luxor, this hotel was a perfect retreat to escape the hustle and hassle of people in general.

The staff were all locals except the GM, who was a German lady. All were very friendly and helpful and we could not really fault the service. We were even offered a free evening meal on our last day as a thank you for staying at the hotel during the unrest Egypt was experiencing around this time.

Going the extra mile: my wife particularly enjoyed the fig jam over breakfast, and when they ran out, they went down to the local shops to source some more. Each morning was a brand new unopened jar of fig jam. How's that for service.

The room and grounds were a delight. Food was good and local wine very palatable. We could not find much to fault and would recommend to anyone.

The acid test, would we go back to this hotel: yes, certainly.
