The Al Moudira is a lovely oasis that is visually captivating. Set 20 minutes outside of Luxor, the hotel is peaceful and welcoming with a unique design and large and spacious rooms. It's quiet and relaxed and a nice, peaceful escape after Cairo.

The hotel, though, falls short of the luxury that its price implies. Room furnishings are stark and not particularly comfortable. The bathtub did not have a working stopper--thus, no bath--and there was no screen to keep water from the shower from going everywhere. Hot water was inconsistent. The television was a small CRT with maybe four static-rich channels.

The restaurant was generally good, but overpriced for the fare, and the drinks in the lounge were outrageously expensive. Sixteen U.S. dollars for a gin and tonic. The wine list was poor.

The hotel has a wonderful pool area and pool-side restaurant for lunch. The only drawback is that there are swarms of persistent flies that seldom leave you more than a few seconds break at a time.

Service was okay, but the hotel did not send the car that we had ordered for our airport pick-up. After calling the hotel, they instructed us to take a cab, saying that they would pay for the trip. When we got to the hotel, they told us that they would pay the cab in order to keep the rate down, but they were going to charge us the same fee as we would have paid for the hotel car. Not good service on this occasion.

The hotel staff was very helpful in getting guides and drivers for us. We had an excellent guide whom the hotel recommended.

The hotel is unique and offers much to enjoy, but it's priced too high for the quality of the fittings and service. I'd recommend the hotel, but travelers should be aware that it is not in the city center, and you will need 20-30 minutes in a taxi to get to any of Luxor's magnificent sites.

We stayed for a week at this excellent hotel. The staff were very helpful and cheerful. The restaurant was remarkably good; we were expecting to eat out more, but the menu was varied and high-quality. The New Year's Eve drinks, old-fashioned concert with British singers, dinner, and entertainment, were good fun. The Christmas festivities sounded lively as well. The bar area, with another old-fashioned singer, was pleasant. The gardens are beautifully laid out, though they need some care and attention. The pool is very nice, and we had some good lunches in the eating area beside it. The need for a twenty-minute taxi trip to get to any of the wonderful Ancient Egyptian remains is a pity, but is inevitable if a hotel is to take up this much land.

We stayed in Luxor and travelled to Al Moudira for our dinner. The hotel is all that travellers say- beautifully designed and decorated, truly unique and a welcome change from international chain hotels. However, we were very disappointed with the standard of cuisine and we felt this did not match the quality of the rest of the hotel. The first course I tasted was titled as vegatable millefeure but no pastry was in sight, it was merely vegetables piled on eachother. My husband chose another dish which seemed to be nothing but cheese on toast. For my main meal I chose lamb but when this was served it was so tough I had to send it back - and this was from someone who rarely complains because of the embarrassement. Perhaps we were unlucky and the chef had the night off?

This place was very expensive and I'm not sure it was worth the money BUT we did not regret staying there at all. It was the whole family's favorite hotel in Egypt. The rooms are amazing and the service was very friendly and helpful. We organised an afternoon tour through the hotel which was well priced and the driver took us to extra places. The grounds and buildings are beautiful and the pool heated, with restaurant service at both the pool and the main building. Internet was free and beauty services were available with notice. This hotel is out of town so you need to catch taxis to and from however with the reasonably price local guides available I don't see this as a big problem, unless you plan to eat out each night. If you can spare the money don't hesitate.

Right out of Arabian Nights in the best way. We arrived here in the dark after a long day in the Valleys of the Kings and Queens. We were driven deep into the country on the west bank of the Nile, through a very traditional village and ushered into a vaulted space with a fountain in the middle. We followed the porter into the night through a courtyards and dusky passages to a splendid large room with a soaring vaulted ceiling, smooth marble-tiled floor and romantic veiled bed. There was a dressing room, so the bedroom’s mood wasn’t marred by our LL Bean luggage. And a gigantic bathroom with a big tub/shower in the middle of the room. The towel were rough from being dried in the sun but who cared in this magical place.
Enchantment continued in the comfortable bar with good internet service, and at dinner, as the night brought cool air into the courtyard dining area. Frankly, I don’t even remember what we ate, but nothing was disappointing. Or maybe Al Moudira cast a spell over two cranky travelers. The next morning I checked out the vast pool area and poked around the gardens. Even the hotel shop was fabulous. Our one night stay was much too brief. I've already recommended it to several people.

Al Moudira is a beautiful hotel. From the lobby to the rooms and from the restaurant to the swimming pool, every place is well decorated and very comfortable. It is near Luxor, but not in the city of Luxor as all the hotels here. So you need to have a driver that drives you to the beautiful Luxor spots. But at the end of the visists (that is to say in the afternoon), it is better to stay in that wonderful oasis with a nice swimming pool ! Meals are very good too. We loved this place !

We stayed at the Al Moudira for just one night and wished it could have been longer! It is a picturesque Arabian-style hotel beautifully appointed with decorations from the owner's travels around the world. Our room was probably the largest we have ever stayed in!

The staff was especially accommodating, as we were the only guests during this low season time! They went out of their way to make us comfortable. The restaurant was very good and willing to serve us at an unusual hour (after we went to see the Karnak Temple Sound and Light Show). We appreciated their flexibility.

The pool is beautiful and a pleasant respite during a hot Egyptian summer.

Be forewarned that the Al Moudira is in a remote location and you will need to travel about 20 minutes or more by taxi to get to Luxor. But it is a special retreat full of elegance and relaxation. We highly recommend it.
