“nice budget hotel”
Reviewed 28 May 2011

We stayed here for four nights. We loved being away from the busy city. We've visited the Westbank that was not far away. Lovely views of the river and temples from the top roof restaurant. Wonderful swimming pool and good facilities for a budget hotel. Very good food in the restaurant (the kids loved it!) and the vegetables are cleaned with filtered water.

Delightful room, wonderful views from the balcony over the river, good breakfast, nice size pool though too cold to swim in early April, perfect location for easy access to the ferry and the East Bank and to West Bank archaeology sites, for me it ticks all the boxes.

Room Tip: For quiet ask for a room overlooking the pool.

I stayed here for two nights with a tour group so I can not comment on the cost. I loved being away from the busy city, but being only yards from the ferry and boats it was easy to get there. Lovely views of the river and temples. Wonderful swimming pool and good facilities for a budget hotel. Good food in the restaurant and at sensible prices.

We stayed at the Nile Valley Hotel for it location and friendly staff and within a bike ride to the monuments.Rooms were very clean and our room over looked the Nile and pool area. The staff were always on hand if you needed any help, like hiring a bike for the day rather than sitting on a bus with forty other tourists, which is what most people seem to do.The restaurant had a lovely view over the Nile and you could see Luxor temple on the east side.
The food in the restaurant was very good also.

We didn't know what to expect going to Luxor after being in Egypt for almost two weeks. We had a wonderful surprise with this hotel. We were very early after we arrived by overnight train. They made us feel welcome and stored our luggage for us, so that we could go out until our room was ready. They also helped us arranging our daytrips. It was wonderful having our meals on the rooftop restaurant overlooking the Nile River. It is also so easy to get around as the hotel is on the banks of the Nile. I can recommend this hotel for any family going on a budget trip to Luxor. It didn''t feel like budget compared to our other hotels. It was worth our money over and over - Not only the hotel, but the whole Luxor experience. I wish we could stay there much longer. It is a wonderful place. Anna Venter from South Africa.

I loved this hotel. The hotel is small wich gives you this special , nice family feeling, with excellent helpful staff , gives you personally service. The view from the restaurant with the roof-top terrace is so beutiful and the food is very good. You get value for your money.
The owner Hamada Khalifa, always caring, professional and very helpful. We was enjoying high service, good food and relaxing holiday, in a familiar and cozy way.
I highley recommend this hotel.

Firstly the positives from our 6 night stay in November last year. The Nile Valley was easy to book, good value, clean, reasonable food made better by the good views from the restaurant, the boat trip we booked was good and the staff generally willing and able to help out. If you want a decent cheap hotel on the west bank then you could do a lot worse.

However remember this is a small family run hotel and if you have to report something unpleasant or have an issue with the hotel - good luck. That is based on our experience with the owner when we reported something missing from our room..

On the 2nd day we went out sightseeing and on our return we couldn't find our mobile phone which we were certain we'd left in the room on the table next to the bed. After a thorough search, calling the phone via Skype repeatedly, we told the front desk guy who came had another look through the room also couldn't find it. He told us the owner would be coming later and we could discuss it with him, which we agreed to.

The phone was old and not having it was an inconvenience but we did not want to make a big issue of it, accuse people, expect any compensation or let it spoil our trip. However as we we certain we'd left it in the room we thought we should inform the owner. Common procedure right?

His initial reaction was very disappointing. I understand the owner had the right to defend his hotel and people who work there, but his response was quite aggressive, turning the issue into a personal attack on him and his staff and completely lacking any concern for our situation. His reaction we felt could be summed up as 'I don't believe you, you've offended me and I don't care about your situation'.

ok - not great but he did lend us his phone to cancel the one we'd lost. At this stage we were happy to forget about the loss, his rudeness, and get on with our holiday. However the owner had different plans.

The following night after speaking to a number of other guests at dinner he came to our table and asked us in an abrupt manner, completely at odds to his manner with the other guests, if we'd" remembered" where we had left our phone (like we'd made it up and now it was time to confess) we told him "no" but said its no problem and we would forget about it. He replied (again quite aggressively) “I'll never forget it" and then walked off, just like that, leaving us feeling quite humiliated and very uncomfortable.

Exactly the same interaction took place at lunch a few days later where he deliberately made the point to us - again in public - that he did not believe we'd lost the phone in our room. Again his manner and attitude leaving us feeling publicly humiliated and unwelcome.

This happened a third time which confirmed the impression we had that we were not welcome in the hotel because of reporting the missing phone to him.

Maybe the phone was taken from our room, maybe we left it in a taxi, maybe it was stolen outside the temple, I'm certain its the first but who really knows. However the real test for any hotel is how they deal with problems - in this respect Nile Valley management has a bit to learn.

Dear Sir, Thank you for your review.
I'm happy you enjoyed our hotel.
As you can imagine we have had many guests in our hotel and we have had good and bad experiences the last 10 years.
As soon you are missing something surely you have to mention it to the managment.
I find it hard to believe our housekeeping stafff took the phone from your room because I know them very well and they are very religious, at the same time there was cash money in your room (according to yourself) that they did not touch.
Just recently guests checked out and forgot 400,- euros in a pillowcase, the housekeeping staff gave it to the reception and when we contacted the guests they had not noticed they had forgotten to take their money.
This is just one of the many examples that our staff is honest.
At the beginning you were not sure and you also mentioned the option that you had lost it at Karnak temple or in a taxi. maybe my reaction was a bit harsh but it is easy to accuse but very difficult for our staff to defend their selves. Be sure that if there was any dought in my mind I would have reacted differently.
Kind regards,
Hamada Khalifa
