“NOT AS GOOD AS THE JEWEL OF THE NILE FOR VALUE AND FRIENDLINESS BUT CLOSE 2ND!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2010

Lovely restaurant but found that it a bit of a conveyor belt and although the owner came round just not as friendly as the Jewel of the Nile. More expensive and not as friendly but apart from that enjoyed our meal.

“Lovely restaurant with a good mix of Egyptian and English dishes on the menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2010

This is a very welcoming restaurant run by a bubbly English woman, called Debbie. She ensures that everyone has a lovely eating experience. the menu has a good mix of Egyptian and English food. The desserts are especially lovely, mostly made by Debbie.
Although I have been coming to Luxor for 10 years, this is the first year I have been to the Lantern restaurant, but it won't be the last!
I am back in November with friends and will be sure to come again to this restaurant.

“The Lantern is typically European cuisine...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2010

The Lantern is typically European cuisine cooked to a very high standard. You will find Debbie running the "floor" with great authority, nothing is to much and the waiters are very friendly, but professional. The food is large portions and you will pay around £30 for a 3 course meal for 2 Inc wine, and the Wine is around a third of that! The food feels like it is "cooked for you" and it is very much "home" cooking. We have eaten here a number of times now and the experience is always top class. As you walk in, it is like a quiet refuge out of the bustling streets, and on first impressions can appear "stuffy" this very soon disappears and a very relaxed, but quality restaurant comes over - I cannot recommend this enough, DO NOT stay in you hotel and pay stupid prices for very average food, get out here, you will not be disappointed. Just remember if you going between 7pm and 9pm might be worth calling ahead as it can get busy.

“Our No. 1”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2010

Although we wouldn't usually choose a restaurant with 'English Restaurant' written large outside, this one was recommended to us by two separate people so we gave it a try. Excellent food with a reasonable selection of egyptian dishes and interesting international, eg greek lamb stew, friendly welcome from the english lady front of house who runs a tight ship staffwise and provides very good service. Reasonably priced wine too. Although full of brits so unable to feel it 'authentic' in the way the sofra is, the food was fab - and in our experience much better than the sofra. We returned for a second visit and in the 'marks out of 5' scoring this restaurant came out top. Give it a try.
