“Basic but comfortable, great customer service.”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

First things first when reading these reviews...remember, this is Africa! The comforts you are used to in your home country or other travels don't count here! After reading the reviews I wasn't expecting much, but after arriving after a very long journey, it was a delight to be welcome by such friendly and accommodating staff. You can't help but smile and laugh with them.

Had two stays so had two different rooms.
1. ground floor room overlooking the gardens -lovely outlook. Windows opened provided plenty of breeze. Rooms are clean and basic but comfortable (in-room safe available). Hot water plentiful. Good wifi.

2. 3rd floor looking over the road. If you are a light sleeper, I'd suggest ear plugs 'just in case'. Hot water plentiful and good wifi in room.

I heard people complain about no/lack of hot water, but neither myself or the 6 others in my group had any issues.

Breakfast Buffett plentiful as is evening restaurant menu choices. A little pricey, but evens out for the safety of the hotel. Definitely recommended not to venture out after dark.

Make sure you include a trip to elephant orphanage, I was originally quoted 7000 shillings for both elephant orphanage and giraffe centre, this reduced to 4000shillings when I only wanted to do the orphanage (driver later offered 5000 shillings for both). The hotel has drivers readily available to take you but make sure you are early, the session is from 11am for one hour only and it's approximately an hours drive.

Airport taxi 2100 shillings. If you are going to additional East African countries make sure you get the right visa upon entry to save you money later!

Most importantly, relax and settle into African time! You'll love it.

The Boulevard was the very first hotel I stayed in Africa. I was impressed by everyone's friendliness. There are no elevators but the bell boys are very willing to carry up your luggage. The breakfast buffet is excellent, a great variety of dishes to please most appetites. There is a swimming pool and an attractive outside bar. Compared to local restaurants the hotel's dining room is a little pricey. The rooms are not elaborate but still comfortable. I liked this hotel so much I went back for another stay.

Room Tip: Try and book a room in the back of the hotel over looking the garden. The flowering bushes and trees...

Yes there is no air conditioning which would be a plus but I gave it a very good because of it's location and service. The room and bathroom were clean as was the public areas and the restaurant food was good with ample portions. The staff was responsive to our needs and any questions we had and the pool and grounds were nice.

The location was a big plus, literally around the corner from the National Museum which you should really see before embarking on your safari. It is only a 15 minute walk straight down the street and over a pedestrian overpass to downtown. You'll pass through the Nairobi University and right by the Masai Souvenir Market on the way. Good coffee shops, a very good and helpful camera shop (Elite cameras), and restaurants are just minutes away from the hotel. I felt very safe walking to and from downtown though I did it during the day so I can't comment on evening walking.

Room Tip: Request a garden facing room.

Stayed for 3 nights on a business trip. The hotel dates back to the 70s I think, but the rooms have recently been renovated. It is part of a hotel chain and has some characteristics of both a hotel chain (functional) and a charming old hotel.

The rooms are new with TV, stand-fan and safe but no air-con. Ours had a view of the amazing gardens and this was a big plus. The gardens and swimming pool are the star attraction of the hotel. There is also a small conference room.

The food in the restaurant, which at some point was a dancing /disco area, is good but quality can vary with the chef I think. Breakfast was buffet and good but did not vary. The hotel has a nice small bar with TVs.

For us the location close to the CBD was the main point as it meant we missed most of Nairobi's traffic. The rates are good value compared to other hotels in the area and this seems to be the attraction for the many over-landers who arrived here during our stay.

Room Tip: Choose rooms with a garden view.

Spent 2 nights with wife and son. First night we spent, we slept on single beds. Seemed like school bunkers. The hotel requires a facelift and renovations. The garden was waoh! Great flowers and superb greenery. Looks like it was borrowed to compliment the hotel.
Our last night upon returning from Masai Mara was better. More modern room and better TV. My son felt cozier.

I know when you reach the hotel you would be like wow nice etc...live there for 15 days like me and you would know the inside out.
I am writing this review while inside the hotel right now, trust me you are not alone in this room..cockroaches are there with you.. not one not two but so many that you will never feel alone..lol
Well I guess and from what I have heard this is probably the cleaner ones in the price tag. No AC so summers can be difficult.
Though some claim it to be 10 mins from the town but I have walked almost daily it will take you atleast 20 mins to reach CBD. If you have a good appetite then please do not rely on the hotel restaurant as I am sure they will succeed to disappoint you.If they don't have customers then they tend to treat the ones they do have, with negligence..if you order a food there and you like it, so you come back the other day and you order it again, to your surprise the quantity will go down to half..lol..and the dish which was prepared on a pan yesterday would be served by heating it in the Ovan and uncooked. This was the weirdest thing that happened.
So please don't think that you will be able to find good food here so do make sure you get something packed from CBD. Food is way over priced as compared to the quality and quantity you may get for a similar meal in CBD
Breakfast OMG...let me give you the list which is what they have everyday..no change at all and food is cold.

1.Fruit salad and cereals with hot and cold milk options
2.Sausages
3.Mashed potato (nothing you have ever tasted in your life, they have no taste actually)
4.Pancakes (the thinnest you can imagine)
5.Scrambled Eggs (I didn't even recognize it till I read the name plate)
6.Sauteed tomatoes
7.Bread butter, jam
8.Fruits (some of them would really smell like when a fruit goes bad)
9.coffee
10. Juices
11.2 more things that looked bad so I never read the names)

There are almost no street lights between the hotel and the CBD crossing, so be careful if you planning to walk..carry a torch if you can.

Currency exchange in the hotel is like a loot..for 1 USD they will you 75 Kenya shiilings!!
If you go to Central Market in CBD you can get it for 86 and airport it is 83 as per 07-05-2014.

All the best have fun and you may enjoy swimming, tennis, bar etc here in the hotel no gym though :(

Room Tip: I was on the poolside room, that seemed better than the others..it will help keep the room comparati...

The hotel is located in a quite location, within 10 minutes walk to the CBD. Nice and clean rooms. Good garden, swimming pool and bar. Staff is friendly and helpful. The only problem is that it doesnt have aircon, so i can imagine staying here in summer will be terrible. Also the breakfast is of poor quality.

Room Tip: Pick a garden facing or pool facing room, you can't miss anything.
