“Wow - what an amazing place”
Reviewed 19 January 2012

We recently stayed at the Giraffe Manor with our two teenage daughters. It really is a truly unique and amazing place. The grounds are beautiful with nine gorgeous giraffes in residence just waiting to come and greet you. The rooms are lovely, the main house like an English country manor house and nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. The food is lovely - breakfast especially a delight as the giraffes put their heads right through the window to be fed ! Your kids will love it ! Lunch was gorgeous outside on the terrace and dinner is in the panelled dining room on one large dining table with all the other residents . We stayed in the Karen Blixen room with furniture that she gave to the original owner of the house - it has a double bed and two twin beds upstairs on a mezzanine floor above - perfect for families with small children. There is no gym or swimming pool and you cannot walk around the grounds so any kind of exercise is completely impossible - so two days is long enough. But it really is all about the giraffes. A lion had escaped from the National park next door and was lurking in the gardens when we arrived (Jan 2012) She had killed one of the baby giraffes and was causing a great deal of anxiety amongst the staff - who had seen her on New Years Eve but

Room Tip: Rooms in the main house have views over the gardens , but all the rooms are lovely

We stayed at Giraffe Manor for the first two nights of our Kenya honeymoon. I wish I could have stayed a week! Beautiful grounds, amazingly friendly staff who take care of you, delicious food, cozy fireplace with help-yourself booze for evenings, and, um, you get to feed and pet giraffes! Need I say more?

We arrived late at night and my husband had called ahead to see if they could have some food for us as we'd spent the day travelling. When we arrived the dining room was candlelit with plenty of soup, charcuterie, and wine at our disposal, not to mention staff to get us whatever we wanted.

I highly recommend this for anyone visiting Kenya, whether you're honeymooners or enjoying retirement. It's a dream.

We stayed just one night as a family before our return to the UK. A truly unique experience -one for children of all ages to revel in. Service was superb with excellent staff - we were wonderfully looked after.

Room Tip: Better bathrooms in the new building.

A stay in Nairobi would not be complete without spending a night at the Giraffe Manor. The accomodations are great, the staff is excellent, and the food is outstanding. Having breakfast while hand feeding Giraffe's is an experience that not too many people can claim, and a lot of fun!! Then you go for the Giraffe kiss, which is holding a rose in your teeth and allowing the Giraffe pluck it out. After feeding the giraffe's you can watch the warthogs and the general manager's dog chase each other around the front patio area, or just relax with a drink and take it all in. It does not get much better than this.

I am sat at Nairobi airport writing this review as it still fresh in my mind. This hotel is just amazing. We stayed 3 nights in Bettys room at the front of the house with a four poster bed and big balcony. Each moring a head popped through our window it was Lynn or Betty the largets two giraffes wanting to be fed!

There are lots of other giraffes all wanting to be hand fed ,a few babies that are really cute. The whole experice is mind blowing in every way.Other than the giraffes there are 3 familys of warthogs, herons and lots of other birds.

The rooms are all equal in the decor and I would of been happy to of stayed in any.The food is just first class and the service and staff equal to thjat of hotels such as the Ritz in London or Raffels in Singapore but what they dont have is the one off amazing setting that Giraffe Manor has.

The grounds are lovely to walk round or just sit and read a book ! Life will never be the same after our time there -just go and find out for yourself!

Room Tip: All are very good BUT the front ones are better

Finally I get round to writing about this wonderful hotel after our second visit here - it is like no other place I have ever stayed at. If you can afford it - go there tomorrow. If you cannot afford it yet - it is worth saving up for. The main building is an old, truly beautiful manor, and there are more rooms in the brand new building - which is built in exactly the same style. You may find the new (bath)rooms a bit more comfortable and roomy. The staff are welcoming and will make you feel very much at home - but the star performers here of course are the giraffes and the warthogs who roam freely around the grounds. Be prepared to share your breakfast with them! Another great thing about the place is that you sit together with the other guests in the lounge and at dinner - we met some really interesting people and loved the interaction. Giles and his team will make your stay unforgettable. I would classify Giraffe Manor not so much as a hotel, but as an experience that's not to be missed.

Room Tip: The bathrooms in the new building are in the best condition as it's all brand new.

An amazing experience to get up close and personal with the giraffes. The staff made us feel welcome. Food very good and each room had different decor. Would also recommend visiting the Giraffe Center. Learned a lot about giraffes from a very knowledgeable guide.
