Nairobi nat. park is a great place to go for a sunday afternoon drive. If I am correct, together with Nakuru National Park, it is the park in Kenaya having the highest concentration of white rhinos. You are nearly guaranteed to see at least a Rhino!
Unfortunately and sadly, Nairobi's sprawl has year after year affected the numbers of wildlife within the park. Nevertheless it is definitely worth a visit whilst in Nairobi

Why travel for hours to see wildlife when it is so close....good place for lions, rhinos, giraffe..

Fees can be a little expensive for non residents (check KWS site for latest) otherwise pack a picnic and head out early morning or evening.

Nairobi has plenty of taxi drivers willing to take you at a reasonable price but far better to try and get a minibus with open roof to really appreciate.

Looking at fabulous wildlife in a national park with a city backdrop is unique and what Nairobi National Park offers. It shouldn't be missed.

I went here for a full day on the last day of a four week birding / wildlife trip and was delighted to see about eighty (80) bird species, about twelve (12) mammal species (including a lion, giraffe, kongoni, eland, grant gazelle, black rhinoceros, warthog, slender tailed mongoose, rock hyrax, baboon and zebra) and several reptile species (including Nile Monitor, Red-headed Rock Oragama).

Nairobi National Park didn't disappoint.

Nairobi National Park is, I think, unique. It's a genuine national park - a slice of the Mara, with wild animals, fantastic views, and everything a Kenyan national park has, within 10 minutes drive of my accommodation. It's important, if you'r thinking of going, to remember that it's not a zoo or a safari park. There's no guarantee you'll see anything. We went early in the morning on a cold, damp day, and didn't manage to see any lions, leopards or rhino (despite the driver's best efforts). We did, however, see zebra, antelope of various kinds, warthogs, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffes, jackals, various birds and other animals in genuinely wild surroundings. If you have a few hours spare in Nairobi - maybe on the way to the Serengeti or the Mara (or just a couple of hours to kill on a long airport transfer - you can get a transit visa, get a taxi, and do a couple of hours in the park before being delivered back to the airport in time for your flight), it's a great way to practice spotting animals and get used to the ride in a safari truck!
