“OK, but not a 5-star hotel”
Reviewed 21 March 2009

I wrote a review for this place after i stayed here a few months ago. I stated this was not a 5 star hotel, in spite of the claims made. I then got contacted by their sales team, who offered me to come stay again, at a discounted rate. Since i had to spend a night close to the airport, i decided to take them up on the offer. Interestingly enough, they first asked me how much I paid before before telling me the discounted rate- i guess they didn't want to offer me too much of a discount. In they end i paid 150USD tax and breakfast included.

I guess for $150 the place is OK, but lets be clear- this is not a 5star hotel. more like a glorified 3 star. There is no outside pool. The indoor pool area smells vile. The Internet did not work during my stay. The fridge/minibar was empty, and didn't work (so i couldn't cool my own water bottle). There are no sockets near the desk in your room to plug in a computer of phone charger, which is important to me as a business traveler. none of this is insurmountable, but simply not up to 5star standards. I later stayed at the Serena- now that is a real 5star hotel. and the rate there was 220USD- not that much more for much better service.

My stay was OK as it minimized my airport connection time, and i used the well-equipped gym after my late arrival. But it's not the kind of hotel where you would leisurely spend a full day enjoying yourself-unlike the Serena with its gorgeous pool.

Just got back from one nights stay at The Panari. Now let's get my biggest moan out of the way, NO OUTSIDE POOL AREA....just some rubbish sitting area with a few tatty sunbeds..
Room 1117 was nice and clean but lacked the normal kettle and iron. It took 3 phone calls plus a trip to reception to have these items delivered to my room unfortunately the ironing board never arrived. The bed initially felt hard but it did give me a wonderful nights sleep. Bathroom was large with a bath/shower and large sink area, but the shower had no pressure whatsoever. Well I don't spend all my time in the room so at the bar you are served by a young man called Steve. Very friendly and quick to give advice on the range of beers. I stuck to a large Tuskers (or 4) and very refreshing it was to. Another mention must go to the lady who was sat to the right of reception (sorry did not get her name) she went beyond the call of duty in helping us arrange a short safari trip to the reserve across the road. She took us down to the tour office on the ground floor (Crown Tours and Car Hire) and arranged a good price with the staff.
Overall nice hotel with fantastic staff

This hotel exemplifies what has been lacking in customer service in Africa but is being corrected. Wonderful.

The Panari is one hotel that i will stay in anytime if they can take me and my family. Excellent service ! They can accomodate families and much more.

They even take credit cards- only VISA . Trust me, in East Africa any company that takes a credit card is a good company.

Their breakfast buffet is more than generous- very nice service.

Their rooms are very spacious and well equiped.

If you are in Nairobi and have some money to spend for some comfort before your ventures into East Africa- Panari is the place to be .

Have fun

Our flight was cancelled and we were stranded at the airport in Nairobi. This accomodation was arranged by Kenya airline. Very nice hotel! Everything was sparkling clean. Room was very tastefully designed and comfortable. Hotel staff were pleasant, welcoming and helpful. Hotel restaurant featured hot and cold buffet with delicious food, plenty of choices and abundance of food (we had dinner and breakfast). Wait staff were a bit slow and unattentive (to clean plates off the table, with drinks, etc.), but it did not matter, we were not in rush. I would definitely go back and I recommend this hotel without reservation. Even though we only stayed for 1 night, it was a very pleasant experience. We loved it.

The Panari was obviously built to host westerners. It is near the location of the former US Embassy that was bombed in 1998. The hotel includes a shopping area and food court and even a small ice rink. The fitness center is well-stocked with weight and cardio equipment. The spa has a large indoor pool, dry and wet sauna…for no extra fee. Not the case for internet connection which runs about $8 per hour or about $35 for unlimited 24 hours. Connection is slow, but handled Skype video calls OK. The shopping area has two travel agencies that can make arrangements for one day or multiple day safaris. The food court meals of Chinese, Indian and will run you $10-12. There is a Brazilian restaurant with BBQ meat buffet that runs about $40 and a Middle Eastern place that runs about $20 a meal and has a great view of the Nairobi game park just across the busy road. There is a bank with an ATM where you can get Kenyan money…many places do not take credit cards. The hotel is close to the international airport, but about 30 minutes outside of the downtown area. If you are flying in to meet someone at your hotel, or have business near the airport, this is a decent place to stay. It would also be a good place to start a safari vacation. Cabs into town will run you about $10-12 each way.

I stayed here just one night whilst in Kenya on business. The room was very neat and clean and the staff friendly, but the place just has no soul. I could have been in any city in the world - there was no hint that you were in Kenya unless you looked out of the windows. If you do have to stay here request a room with views over the National Park - much nicer than the city view to the rear.

Why run the risk of down town Nairobi when this gem is only 6 miles away from the Intl Airport.

Although only a 24 hour stopover this hotel should carry a 4* rating.

The staff (all local Kenyans) are well spoken, educated and freindley in a true sense. Smiles around.

The hotel itself sits within a complex that offers a good selection of food outlets, Ice Rink ! disco and a few bars.

More importanley its location is a must for going on Safari

Dont' miss the Brazilian Pampa Churrascaria Steak House which serves more that 12 cuts of meat incliding local game including the likes of Camel and Crocodile. All swallowed down by cool Tusker Lager.
