“Comfortable, clean, and the best in hospitality and service!”
Reviewed 12 August 2009

Our church mission teams have stayed at the MGH nearly every year for the past 7 years. Not only is the MGH a great place to stay - safe, reasonably priced, and with full or half board available in their restaurant - the staff is incredibly hospitable and service-oriented. Timothy was especially helpful, always with a huge smile. The restaurant staff took great care of us, saved meals when we came back late, fed us early the morning we were leaving, taught us Swahili, and even yelled for our team to stop for photos when some of our women wore dresses we'd bought from an African dressmaker to church! The service and hospitality simply are unmatched anywhere I've ever been in the U.S., Latin America, or Europe We love the MGH staff. As others have pointed out, the MGH is in a quiet and relatively safe area and it is convenient to the areas where we work. Shopping and currency exchange are conveniently close. All in all, a GREAT place to stay.

Excellent safe haven in a great location - we spent 10 nights in the Methodist Guest house while visiting Kenya and working with children in a Children's home. We travelled as a family - we have three children aged 11,14,17 and we felt perfectly safe and at home here. The staff were fantastic particularly Timothy and they couldnt have done enough for us.
Would really recommend this guest house to families or anyone travelling to Nairobi, excellent value as well.

As Trustees of a UK based charity (The Karibuni Trust) which supports Kenyan projects working with children in need in Kenya, we visit every year with a work party. MGH is the perfect place for us to use as a base as we travel out to visit the projects in various parts of Kenya. When we're away for several days on our visits, we can leave any unwanted luggage in the storeroom and valuables in a private safe.
When we arrive back it's to the warmest welcome anywhere on the planet! The rooms are more than adequate for two people sharing, all en-suite with a TV and telephone. The standard of cleanliness is very high, the food is good - always a choice and lots of fresh vegetables and fruit.
There's a swimming pool (free to residents) with a poolside cafe and refreshment bar where you can get a light lunch - cheaper than staying full-board and always good.
The staff are great and can't do enough for you at any time of the day or night - several ogf our work party members have had nights when they couldn't sleep, and they have always found the on-duty receptionaist and security guards more than willing to talk and make a cup of chai!

You may not find this place in the guide book (it isn't in ours), so that is why I am submitting it. Please note that having gone through Nairobi several times that I have not stayed anywhere but here, so I cannot compare this to other properties. First of all, you don't have to be a Methodist to stay here; they'll never ask you about that! It is primarily a place where groups (church, mission) can stay, meet, and eat. I would call this a semi-commercial establishment, as MGH is building a new hotel high rise right next door. Located in a mostly residential area, it is quiet, has 24 hour security, and two steel entry gates! This is where we go when we've got 10+ hours of jet-lag and want a quiet place to go to rest where we don't have to leave the grounds for any reason, not even to eat, unless we want to. If you do want to do a bit of shopping, the western-style Ya Ya Centre is five minute matatu ride away. We usually get full board, so we eat all of our meals in the dining room, where you will find good variety of food, and very attentive service. At breakfast, the chef sets up in the dining area to prepare your eggs just the way you like them! Not cheap, especially if you are on full board, and definitely not fancy with smallish rooms, this is the kind of place you can depend on to be consistently the same.
