“magical!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 December 2013

its a perfect place to explore the alleys...do visit Lamu museum, lamu fort, vioni beach, donkey ride, the donkey sanctuary, old workshops specializing in lamu craft.. got a lovely treasure box for a reasonable price. try seafood at bush gardens restaurant just next to sunsail hotel (along the lamu jetty) and also lamu palace hotel. further up there is a restaurant (cant recall name) but you will notice the chef cooking up barbequed chicken, African pizza and mishkaki ( pieces of bbq beef/mutton pieces) love Lamu :)
oh do hire a local guide...if short of time and want to explore the alleys without getting lost..they are not too expensive..anything between 200-500kshs is fair enough.

Lamu is lovely. no cars, just braying donkeys.

The food is awesome. The people are friendly. The architecture and art is intoxicating. The seas are bountiful. This is a great escape.

A wonderful world of narrow alleyways, donkeys (no vehicles), small shops and beautiful old buildings. Friendly people and some amazing little shops to visit...definitely worth it!
