on our visit to kizingo beach, we were lucky enough to get a sneak preview of the tastefully decorated banda (wasn't occupied) fell in love with it!! though did not stay there...am personally soo tempted to on my next visit... m sure my friend will agree as well!! the beach was a stretch of white sand... clean...we had a dip in the sea...was totally relaxing! its the best place to unwind and get that privacy and peace of mind!

As someone who has 3,000 sunset shots I consider myself a beach connoisseur. And none are more beautiful than the miles of empty pristine beaches that enfold the the Kizingo resort. The eco -friendly resort's 8 thatched roof banda's match every fantasy of the perfect beach hideaway. The warm and welcoming proprietors, the Van Aardt family and the gracious and attentive staff provide for every need in an understated and unobtrusive way. No wild night life here but if you are into wonderful fresh food, a well stocked bar, and moonlit starry nights then Kizingo will provide all the nightlife you'll need.
With the help of the Kizingo staff we spent our 15th wedding anniversary sailing on a dhow in the East Indian Ocean while sipping champagne at sunset. Could life get any better?

My boyfriend and I stayed at Kisingo last year, for a week, for our 3 year anniversary. We arrived on New Year's Eve, and were very warmly greeted by Mary Jo, Dion, and the whole staff. We were shown to our lovely banda, and then feasted like kings that night!

The rest of our stay was just splendid. Yes, the accomodations are basic, but the website is very clear about that. You shouldn't expect a 5 star hotel with marble floors, Philippe Stark furniture and plasma flat screens. But do expect 5 star service!

I can't thank everyone enough for making our stay so memorable! The staff was so attentive, the food was fresh and tasted divine, the cocktails are perfect, and most of all the place is heavenly! Will come back!!

P.S: if you are going with your significant other, do note that the bathroom does not have a door. I was exiled to the hamac or the beach when Nature called on my boyfriend, and vice-versa. This absolutely did not, in any way, make our stay any less wonderful, but I thought it was worth mentioning as it might surprise some people...

In most cases if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. However, there is an exception to every rule - Kizingo is it! Seriously!! A truly magical place. Not only can you relax on your veranda, overlooking the Indian Ocean, in the heat of the day, with a steady breeze while being rocked off to sleep. But you also have the option to go out fishing, cannoning, swimming, walking, running, catching craps, digging holes, building sand castles, sunbathing and of course visiting the local towns and villages. Very private, spacious, luxurious, comfortable, clean, authentic, relaxing and most importantly - it's safe! The staff are fantastically friendly and really liven things up - always happy to help, with a smile. It's just so refreshing to see somewhere that has just got 'it' right!

We have stayed at Kizingo several times now and will be going back again! Although we are lucky enough to travel to many corners of the world, this is by far the most relaxing. The owners (MaryJo, Louis and Dion) are so laid back and accommodating, and you want for nothing. The staff are always smiling. The 'rooms' are huge, comfortable, luxurious and private. The food is fantastic and plentiful. The evening G&Ts at the bar (barefoot and wearing a kikoy and t-shirt) gives one the opportunity to chat to the (maximum 6 or 8) other guests - always interesting folk. We have been there on our own, with family, and with friends. We have never been bored, the beach (9 miles of white sand) is perfect and deserted, and there are excursions to Lamu town, fishing in the mangrove channels, kayaking, swimming with the dolphins, visiting local schools, walks through the sand dunes, and so on. And the sunsets are spectacular! For families, friends, singles or couples, we think this place is simply the best! The web site shows it all, but it's better than that! And if you are concerned about safety, don't be. You don't see the extensive security, but it's there and we feel (and are) safer here than almost anywhere else in the world.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter which room you are in. Every one as lovely and romantic as the next!

Stayed on my own for a few days R+R. Beautiful rooms on a private beach. Super friendly and entertaining hosts, great staff and the food was gorgeous. Definitely a quiet place to chill out but plenty to do if you're feeling active... easy to get a boat to Lamu town or sea kayak around the mangroves. Really enjoyed it, loved the design of the place and the people who run it.

Wow, what an incredible place! Stunningly beautiful, incredible hosts, superb food, fantastic bandas, a proper treat! There's nothing too much trouble for the hosts, who work as hard as their wonderful staff. Only complaint is that it's too relaxing!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Kizingo is the ultimate 'no news, no shoes’ beach resort - a wonderful secluded and tranquil escape from the modern world. The lodge is situated at one end of a spectacular 12-kilometre beach that stretches from Kizingo (which means 'the point’ in Swahili) to the fashionable village of Shela. Kizingo has eight beautifully appointed bandas (thatched cottages), set well apart from each other. In the early morning you can enjoy tea in bed and watch fishing dhows tack south to Malindi.Guests can be as private or as social as they wish, opting to enjoy fine dining on the balcony of their banda or join other guests in the bar and the dining room with their magnficent views across the bay to mainland Kenya where giant baobab trees spread into the brilliant blue sky.Kizingo is owned and run by the van Aardt family, who were all born in Africa. Due to their long and close relationship with the local village, its chief leased them this stunning beachfront land to build a small resort that is both eco-friendly and very comfortable. Like all the best resorts in Kenya, Kizingo has a symbiotic relationship with the local village, an hour away on foot, and with farmers on the mainland who grow food and make furniture for the lodge. The swimming is excellent, both in the Indian Ocean and in the calm waters of the channel that separates Lamu from the mainland. For the more energetic there is a big choice of activities including a guided tour of historic Lamu Town, excellent snorkelling, the chance to swim with dolphins in the winter months and cycle rides to friendly African villages on the mainland. ... more   less
