“Weekend in Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2013

We just returned from an amazing few days at Manda Bay and I cannot recommend the place highly enough. The service was incredible and you really feel welcomed by the entire staff. The setting is spectacular and you can relax and do absolutely nothing, or take advantage of all the activities available. Manda feels so far removed from the rest of the wold that it is so easy to relax there. The facilities are excellent and well-maintained and the food is superb. I highly recommend Manda for a romantic weekend, for families, for groups or even solo travelers. It is truly a special place.

Room Tip: Get a seafront room.

I can only echo what everyone else has said about Manda Bay - amazing - we spent 5 nights there in February this year and had a brilliant time. Bimbi, and all her staff, were incredible , nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation and food were both excellent and, as mentioned by others, the security is extremely robust, which includes armed guards, but equally, very subtle. A clever balance to achieve. We never felt concerned the whole time we were there.

The best of all worlds, teenagers keep themselves busy. Total relaxation or get busy yourself. Loads to do, a library of books in many languages, Star gazing, snorkelling, walking, trips to islands that disappear while you are walking on them.
The food was outstanding, something for everyone.
We will keep going back.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great.

We have just spent 7 glorious days at Manda Bay. This place really is heaven on earth - wonderful weather, lovely rooms on the beach, excellent food and fantastic staff. But most important of all the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed yet highly professional. Fuzz & Bimbi Dyer and Andy & Caragh Roberts are the perfect hosts and could not be more welcoming. They run the place like clockwork and nothing is too much trouble. They treat everyone as their personal house guests and are on hand to sort out your smallest needs. There is something for everyone here - any watersport you can think of (especially wind-powered), fabulous fishing of all types, trips to Lamu, wonderful beaches to walk along, sundowner trips on the dhow, snorkelling around the reef or simply long, lazy days lying in a hammock with a 'dhow' cocktail in hand. This simply must be the best place to stay on the East African coast.
One word on security - this place couldn't be safer. With a Kenyan/US airbase and a naval base around the corner, linked also to the hotel's very sophisticated security system, no undesireables would DREAM of coming near the place so please don't let that put you off.

Dear Simon,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Manda Bay after spending New Year with the team there. As you say Fuzz, Bimbi, Andy & Caragh really do run an experience that is second to none.

We would also like to thank you for your mention of security, as you say, although subtle the presence at Manda Bay is exceptional and we hope that many more people will be confident to come and visit through 2013.

Thank you once again and kind regards,

We have just spent 10 of the very best days of our lives at Manda Bay on Manda Island near Lamu in Kenya. Four families (25 people) had the most incredible holiday in the most perfect place in all of Kenya. The owners, Fuzz & Bimbi Dyer and their staff are the most organized people you could wish for on such a holiday and everything works brilliantly. The food was exceptional, meal after meal, the service wherever we were was really impeccable, the rooms always very comfortable and very well serviced and the venue just simply unbeatable anywhere in the world. Our kids all learnt to kitesurf and were given excellent instruction by Fuzz & Bimbi's sons Harry and William, they also waterskied, went deep sea fishing and caught Sailfish and we were able to spend hot and balmy days on "Utamanduni", the Manda Bay dhow which is the most perfect "lagoon saloon". We all felt completely safe at the resort with it's very well planned and managed security system and what with the Kenyan military having occupied the south of Somalia up to Kismayu, Manda Bay is now probably the safest place to visit on the whole planet !!!! There is so much that kept us all occupied, what ever sport we wanted to do, or we were able to just relax around the pool and take a complete break. It is without doubt the very best holiday we have ever had and I personally can not recommend the resort strongly enough.mit is a "bucket list" place to visit !!! Thanks Fuzz & Bimbi for making it just so special for us all !!! Clive Grinaker.

Room Tip: Water front locations.

Dear Clive,

On behalf of Fuzz, Bimbi and all of the team at Manda Bay thank you so much for taking the time to review Manda Bay. I am glad that you enjoyed all that was on offer and as you say, the amount of activities really are second to none on the Kenyan Coast.

In addition, thank you for raising the security in place at Manda Bay, we do hope that though objective reviews like this it will give people the confidence to return to this amazing area safe in the knowledge that they will have an amazing time.

From Fuzz, Bimbi and all the team at Manda Bay, we very much look forward to welcoming you back again.

Sarah

Our visit was too short! We managed a long-distance swim, a drink at the bar, a fabulous lunch, a snooze in the shade, a game of backgammon, a swim in the pool, sunset cocktails, a lesson on mangroves, birdspotting, a geography quiz and a quick fly-fishing primer! It really is an astonishing place, not to be missed if you love wild, on-the-beach luxury with a touch of laughter and warmth. I'll be back.
