“'Wild about it!"”
Reviewed 14 June 2013

On arrival, and while we were enjoying welcome drinks at the incredible view of hippos in the river, we had virtually no time to react as a leopard exploded from the bushes and took an impala. It was as if this had been orchestrated for us. Although I am one of the rare visitors to Africa who did not wish to witness a kill, I was 'okay' to realize that nature does balance itself if left alone and that the impala's death did serve a purpose. The rest of our stay was as remarkable with amazing cuisine, rustic but exceptional accommodation and the most attentive
staff personell that you could want. Nothing could outdo the candlelight bush supper!

This is one of my favorite places that I've ever been and I highly recommend it. I was here for a one night safari. Upon arrival we were given drinks and cold towels and escorted to our amazing cabin overlooking a river with a ton of wildlife. Shower was outdoor (cool!) and yet totally private. The food was incredible - I had a burger one day, Italian food the other and a range of foods for the other meals. The drivers to take you on safari were very friendly and knowledgeable (I saw the largest pride of Lions in Africa and we were the only vehicle nearby). The pool was also super cool. Overall the property does a great job blending in with nature while at the same time providing amenities that you would expect from a 1st class hotel.

We came by air to this lovely camp and we enjoyed every minute. Our ranger David who is the head ranger was butting the list very high from day one and we saw such a beautiful scenery, wildlife on each gamedrive and had him even to sing the Kenyan national anthum, asante sana David, you a just great. The location by the Mara River is so lovely and you can look at the hippo's in the river or the wildlife when not on gamedrive. On Valentine's day I arranged for an early morning gamedrive with bushbreakfast, and guss what, the spot they had found for us was breathtaking overlooking the March and Masai Mara below. Sitting by a table with white tablecloth and a chef cooking for you and you were listning to the silens, looking at the beauty of nature, wow. We saw 2 times leopard, 1 quite close, we saw cheetah's, the March-pride (a big group of lion's) totally everything except for rhino, but that we saw later on at the 3th camp. This camp got a reward end of Jan. 2013 for best eco-camp :-) We also planted two East-african green-heart trees and got a certificate for that. We think of the days with you as unforgetable memories.
We say thanks to the hole staff they are SO FANTASTIC. Just to mention a few: David, Kisaka and Reuben who served us every day, Lillian and Susan. We recoment Karen Blixen Camp to everybody because we love it. Asante sana everyone.

Room Tip: We stay in tent nr 7 but if I rember there are 22 tents, so I'll say do you want to have a short...

I booked KBC at the last minute, and couldn't have been happier. From the moment I arrived until my departure 2 days later, I was in heaven. The tents are phenomenal, all situated with enough distance between them, for maximum privacy. Each sits right on the Mara River, above a huge hippo pool. Sleeping at night was a trip. Between the lovely sounds of Africa and the hippos? I was in heaven. The outdoor shower? Goodness, what an amazing experience!

Every single staff member bent over backwards to accommodate every whim. Meals are creative and delicious. Game drives are led by experienced and delightful guides. (I saw 4 of the Big 5 on the way in from the airstrip). Want a balloon safari in the morning? No problem, Lillian will make it happen. Massage? Sheila made sure I was taken care of within 20 minutes. Computer problem? No worries, the manager will make sure your problem is resolved.

I've been to many camps in the Mara and rate this one right at the top. I can hardly wait to return for another blissful night or two. Many thanks to all.

Wow! What a place! After a two hour game drive from another Masai Mara camp we arrived to Karen Blixen camp and was immediately met by the friendly hosts. The camp is situated beautifully close to the river and with hippos 50 meters from where you're having your meals sure make it a special feeling. We went on afternoon and morning game drives and the knowledgeable guides made it a very interesting experience. We went for a sundowner one night, and recommend taking the time to watch the sun set over Africa with a bonfire in front and GT in hand. Amazing place and one place I truly would come back to!

Room Tip: The hippos live close by, so if you're a sensitive sleeper bring ear plugs as there's no way...

We came to Karen Blixen Camp as the last stop on a Road Scholar safari trip in Kenya. What a wonderful way to end the trip of a lifetime. Our "tent" was a lovely, luxurious place, our room steward was so helpful and kind, the dining room was beautifully furnished and the food delicious, thanks to their chef and cooking school, and the game drives each day were spectacular. Just relaxing on the veranda a-in the evening was pleasure enough, watching the hippos in the river or the birds on the lawn. The Mara's varied landscape, wildlife, history, and beauty will dazzle every visitor. Karen Blixen Camp is the perfect home from which to see this beautiful part of Kenya.

Room Tip: All the luxury tents are perfect.

We came to Karen Blixen Camp during our honeymoon vacation and flew in from Ukunda. Our driver picked us up from the airstrip and from that moment we had one speechless moment following the other! The camp is beautiful, service is excellent. The game drives were a lifetime experience and we will never forget these days!
The cold nights were so cozy in our beautiful tent, as we found hot water bags in our beds every night, which were prepared during dinner. Food was excellent, too and the picknicks during the drives also beautiful! This whole place leaves you speechless. The view over Mara river, the opportunity to watch hippos, elephants, giraffes etc. while having a drink or lunch in the garden was so good.
