Our offbeat experience had a number of advantages over staying in your standard safari lodge. First the location - Offbeat Camp is superbly situation outside the National Park and therefore we were spared the inevitable traffic jam around distressed animals. We were fortunate to be in the newest tent available but we believe by next year all the tents will be replaced to the new standard - which is excellent. A little more and hotter water in the bush shower system would have been good as the water is soft and getting shampoo shuds out of your hair is tricky. Having no internet connection or mobile signal was a welcome relief from our digitalised world. Our Masai Guides (David and Josephat) and Spotters (Levy and Kapent) were experienced and very knowledgeable. Katie and Jamie were excellent hosts. The early morning drives were cold and the amount of delicious food is not for the faint hearted. The Offbeat Pride of lions and their cubs were entertained us every day.

Room Tip: A new tent is recommended.

If there is one thing you should do in your life it is to go on safari. If there is one place you should stay whilst taking in the breathtaking sights, it's the Offbeat Mara Camp. Beautiful, remote location with the wildlife all around, really wonderful staff (Katie, Jamie and all the cooks, guides, security guards, water carriers etc.) and an excellent vibe around the whole place.

You're in the Mara North Conservancy, which is less populated with safari trucks (good thing) than the Masai Mara itself, but the wildlife and scenery is just as stunning. As it's a small camp, and due to the fact they have a fair few safari trucks, you're guaranteed never to be overcrowded in a truck when you set off on your adventure each morning. In fact, in our case, for most of the time it was just the two of us with our own personal truck and two guides...and all the Masai guides who took us out were exceptional in every sense of the word.

The food is excellent and the tents comfortable. It's only a small camp so each tent has the feel of being secluded...in a good way. Whilst we were there as honeymooners, there were also family groups and single safari enthusiasts - hats off to all the staff for making each of these different groups as welcome and comfortable as the next.

Amazing memories, only enhanced by our stay at this lovely camp. Big thanks to the management team of Katie and Jamie who were superb and with whom we laughed most evenings away with a few G&Ts!

PS. If your lucky enough you'll even get a game of bush football in with the local Masai!

Mara North Conservancy goes from strength to strength and you can keep away from the crowds as you say. Glad you were able to enjoyed a game of bush football with the local maasai!
Hope to see you back in the Mara soon.

Having spent the first part of our Honeymoon with Offbeat in Meru we were quietly hopeful that Mara would also be as good and we were not disappointed! Kate and Jamie were fantastic and welcoming hosts, they could not do enough for us throughout the trip and we really enjoyed chatting and socialising with them and the other guests in the evenings! The camp itself is spacious and secluded, we loved that you felt away from all the other camps. Our tent was amazing, we were lucky enough to be in one of the new tents, which was huge and had beautiful views over the conservancy. The food at camp and while out on drives was brilliant, we were very impressed with how well we were fed and watered while there! The wildlife was of course outstanding and our guides were brilliant at spotting (particularly impressed with the leopard find!) and answering any questions we had! We also really impressed with our guide (Josphat) and how he stood his ground when other jeeps were getting too close to the animals to get a better look. Thank you to Katie, Jamie and the rest of the Offbeat team for such a fantastic time and a truly memorable experience!

It is wonderful to hear that you chose to have your honeymoon with Offbeat and that they made your stay so memorable.
And great that you enjoyed the new tents and well done on seeing a Leopard as they are a notably rare spot.

Have been to camps in Uganda, Kenya and Zambia but nothing beats the Offbeat Mara camp.

- excellent service; the staff were all incredibly friendly... a special mention needs to go to Katie and Jamie who were such hospitable managers and wonderful with kids (much to the relief of the parents)

- the camp has everything... hot water showers, hot water bottles at night, quality food, tea and coffee delivered to each tent in the morning (the tents are incredibly comfortable and well equipped) and night guards. An extra note on the food: my mother is a vegetarian and had excellent dishes prepared especially for her.

- this camp is unique due to the atmosphere; the communal space has something for everyone: board games, wildlife books, photo albums etc ... we had a variety of people staying: solo travellers, couples and families - the camp caters to all people and all needs

- finally the actually safari-ing during the day was superb... really exceeded our expectations. The guides were knowledgable and personable. We were lucky enough to see leopards mating, lions mating, crocodiles mating, cheetah and an impala giving birth.

I only wish my three nights at this place had been five... Would love to return - cannot recommend this camp enough

Super good food, extremely comfortable tents and amazing staff, especially the accommodating managers and the guides (who know everything about everything). The camp has everything - hot water bottles in the evening, night guards because of the elephants and buffalo, board games for free time, etc. The camp is also in a more recluse area of the park with animals literally everywhere so you rarely see another car whilst driving.

Room Tip: The tents are very luxurious so don't be put off

Our third and final stop on a trip of a lifetime, Offbeat Mara was everything we'd dreamed of and more. Outstanding wealth of animals starting with 2 leopards just a few minutes from being picked up at the airstrip by the wonderful guiding duo of Josphat (good luck with the Gold exams) and Kimani. These guys quickly joined in the family banter and we really appreciated their friendliness, knowledge and amazing sense of direction when there were no roads or little in the way of tracks! Katie runs the camp supremely well and she and Jamie were excellent hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and the food, like at Offshore Meru and Sosian earlier on our travels, was outstanding. We didn't get to see a river crossing, but all other boxes were ticked above and beyond our expectations. Thank u guys for everything - it was a blast!

Room Tip: We were in tents 1 and 2 - with the odd buffalo in between! All tents were privately sited and comfo...

We had a great time at the Offbeat Mara Camp. Hosts Katie and Jamie took care of our every need and provided great company as we were the only guests at the camp (4 of us). The tents were a good mix of "roughing it" and luxury. We especially loved being able to listen to the wildlife throughout the night - including roaring lions!

Our guides, David and Kapeen, were fantastic. They were determined to find the elusive leopard for us, which we finally did on our last day...thanks to their perseverance!

Beautiful scenery, great company, amazing food - we hope to be able to come back some day! Needless to say, we would definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a tented camp experience in the Mara...
