To be honest, this was probably the best place we stayed at in Kenya. Particularly excellent food, very nice luxury tents, and a great lounge/bar looking out over a river to relax in.
Pros:
Food was the standout for us. It was a buffet, but wow, so much effort had been put into each dish on offer, and chefs available to cook pasta, eggs, omelettes, etc. Weirdly I began to look forward more to this than the actual safari? I really wish I had a pasta station with a chef at home. Sigh.
The tents were also amazing. They are huge, with a big four-poster bed set in the middle of the room, and a large bathroom directly behind. Is this even really a tent? I mean, technically, yes, but practically more like a mini African mansion? Just like the food, I began to resent having to leave the tent to go on safari. Can I live at Ashnil Mara please?
One other point, they have a nice-ish gift store, which is great if you want a generic Kenyan souvenir but don't want to be harassed or haggle with sellers.
Cons:
Ok, so SOME of the staff were nice but others had some real attitude. Not anything particularly bad, just grumpy or ignorant. There were also a group of porters/helpers who would stand around in the entrance area and stare as people walked in and out.. which was a bit uncomfortable for my wife and I. Not cool.
