“A relaxing end to a long trip.”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Based on other experiences we expected this hotel to be in need of updating. This was definitely not the case. This hotel was an oasis of calm and serenity. The meals were buffet and all included. On the day we went out we ordered and received a lunch box. The whole stay was relaxing.

Room Tip: All rooms have beautiful views and none look over neighbors.

The views across the Masai Mara are breathtaking. Waking up to see elephants grazing peacefully from your bedroom balcony is magical. Executive Chef Anthony, Restaurant Manager Gamaliel and team couldn't do enough for our group to ensure our stay was extraordinary. Thank you so much.

This was our third visit to the Mara Serena Lodge. We stayed for four nights in July and caught some spectacular wildebeest river crossings. I was startled on arrival,to see how the lodge had been enlarged. The renovations are great with an amazing glass fronted balcony on the cliff top facing the Mara River. However, the dining room now gets very noisy in the evenings due to the resonance from the vaulted ceilings, and some of the cozy intimate ambiance has been lost, even though the number of rooms remains the same. Rooms are small by Kenyan standards but furnished in quirky style with a nice seating area and balcony facing the river. We had rooms 61 and 62 which had uninterrupted views of the river. Highlight of the stay was a huge hippo grazing outside the window only a few feet from the window. The baboons are very aggressive and will try and come into your room if the windows are open. Never leave your room unattended with doors or windows open -they will trash the place! The food at the Mara Serena was the best of all the lodges that we stayed at, with some superb desserts. The only reason that I probably won't return is because it is easier to spot more diverse wildlife in some of the private conservancies such as Ol Pejeta, which is only a four hour drive from Nairobi, whereas Mara Serena is in the middle of the Mara Triangle and is about 6 hours from Nairobi by road, and the road turns to gravel after Narok, so you are well shaken up by the time you arrive!. We decided to fly back, as it only took 45 minutes, and the airstrip is a five minute drive from the hotel. Free Wifi throughout the property.

Room Tip: Rooms 61 and 62 have uninterrupted river views

Its like a den with a great location on a cliff overlooking the Maasai Mara, Mara River and the great Migration. A perfect resort to enjoy wild life without wasting any time. Great ambiance, great hospitality, great staff and kitchen crew. The restaurant serves great food and caters to all dietary requirements. Pool area is very nice with beautiful views.
All rooms are beautifully designed and very comfortable with great view.
You can see thousands & thousands of migrated animal assembling near the river during migration period. One of the best resort to feel the nature closely. Overall once in a lifetime experience …. We really enjoyed & loved it.

The location of this hotel is excellent, within the Park and on a hill. Hence the view is nice. And we spotted hippo, lion & cheetah within a km of the hotel. The ambiance is excellent and staff are always helpful and warm. Food is O.K , however for a long stay it might be a problem. The Wi-Fi is there in rooms.
Comfortable stay here made our Msai Mara trip a memorable one.

Room Tip: You may like to select rooms closer to the dining area to avoid longer walks.

What a beautiful place! Service was excellent, the views are tremendous, and the visiting wildlife (warthogs, baboons, etc.) is quite a treat. I highly recommend this lodge for couples, families, or folks traveling solo for an amazing backdrop to your safari adventure.

You cannot ever go wrong with the Mara Serena. It is a fantastic place, superbly located atop a hill thus affording wonderful views across the Mara plains. The comfort and cuisine are first class catering for most tastes. The Indian vegetarian food is particularly very good! The Mara river is about 10 minutes drive away and this is where we saw the most awesome crossing of some 7000 wildebeest and zebras...absolutely amazing!!

Room Tip: All rooms have panoramic view of the Mara expanse so it doesn't really matter which room you get...
