Ol Kinyei was our second camp after spending 3 days at Selenkay and was also brilliant - a different experience in that the landscape was so different and we experienced some rain. This did not detract from our enjoyment and once again, even in the rain, the accommodation was fine and we were warm and dry at night.
Our guides - Emmanuel, Shadrach and David were once again terrific. Our picnic on the Mara was a great experience and Emmanuel's excitement at seeing a leopard on our last morning - something he must have seen a dozen times before - was infectious and we felt ourselves smiling along with him for more than half an hour while we watched it and the glimpses of its cubs. His driving was also something to behold - I am filled with admiration as to how he got us into the areas he did - despite the mud - and his laugh at the end of everything he said was lovely.
The food at the camp and the guys who looked after us were brilliant. The Masai are truly delightful people.
Apart from Rhino, we saw everything on the "Big Five" list, along, of course, with so many other animals, birds and even a Leopard tortoise, one of the small five. Both Amos at Selenkay and Emmanuel seemed to have a magic button which produced animals by request - if we asked for lions we got them, if we asked for a leopard before we went home, we got that too.
I'm not sure if you could have made the experience better for us. It was our first Safari and I had spent a long time in e.mail correspondence with Steve at Gamewatchers who, I'm sure must have been exasperated with the questions I kept throwing at him, answered every question in detail and we got exactly what we had been expecting. He made sure the booking experience was easy and was extremely helpful.
The trucks used at the camps were also great because you could see so much.
The transfer arrangements to and from Nairobi and the camps were also excellent, as were the Gamewatchers people who met us on each occasion.
Thank you for what was for me a truly memorable experience, my first real experience of Africa. Kenya is a beautiful country and its people a delight. One of the best holidays I have ever had. I would not hesitate to recommend Gamewatchers to anyone looking to go on a Safari.
