Nalepo Mara Camp
Reviewed 30 October 2013

On arrival we were welcomed with hot flannels and cool apple juice. A perfect remedy for the hot and dusty road trip from Nairobi. Then we were shown to our luxury tents and invited to lunch under canopy. The food was delicious! All made on-site by chef John, from a kitchen also of clever utilitarian design. Every meal was pitch perfect. A light lunch after a big breakfast, a delicious supper with a real home made feel. And always plenty for my family of five big eaters.

Nalepo Camp is situated within the Maasai Mara. The location is just lovely, nestled next to the Talek River. The parent company Africa Expeditions actually makes tents to order in Kenya so you know you are getting the highest quality whilst maintaining a real feel of a camp rather than trying to be a hotel. The manageress Freda has created a really well thought out and simple camp. Six luxury tents with everything that you need there and working, without fuss. Small but perfectly made.

The game drives are wonderful. You are straight into the heart of the Mara. We saw a great many beautiful animals with in moments of leaving the camp. A large Rhino, a family of Elephants, a Leopard. All by 6.45am! Out for a couple of hours with great guides and very experienced drivers. Then back for coffee and a delicious full breakfast, which, by then was consumed with great relish.

There were always helpful staff on hand to guide back to your tent in the dark or light a big campfire, or fetch a cold drink.
I would whole heartedly recommend this camp for those who want to camp but not rough it & for those who don’t want to waste time travelling in and out of the Mara.
Just what we needed, a real break from busy city life, coupled with the most wonderful wildlife you can see anywhere in the world. Here, you will not be over run by your fellow tourists. You will get a personal Mara experience, one you wont forget.

Room Tip: Talk to the manager about your group and she will choose the best tents for you.
